Chapter 5
"So tell me again why I have to find him?"
The two humans who had called upon the demon Hieas were standing in a well furnished room. Paintings of scenry covered the sky-blue painted walls. A small nightstand was next to a queen-sized bed on which lush pillows and silk sheets were placed, with a small reading light on top of the nightstand. In the center of the room, was a wooden table, covered in a white cloth upon which several books lay open. Some were spellbooks, easily recognized by the strange demonic writing on the covers. Others appeared to be novels, and some were diaries.
Sitting on a chair at the desk was a young man with light brown hair and deep hazel eyes, about 18 from his looks, drinking herbal tea from a tea cup made of fine china. He was dressed in a white shirt and red vest, dark pants and boots. Nearby, a black seemless robe with a hood had been hung. He was facing another man who was standing near the door who looked almost 10 years older then his companion, with long black hair and dark eyes. He was dressed in a loose fitting red shirt, slightly baggy black pants, and wore dark shoes with a red design on them. Cleverly hidden from view was a pouch, hanging from his waist and clearly visible in his hand was a dagger.
The man sitting spoke. "Because we need the book. Listen only two records possibly exist of it. One of them is merely a legend, but the other was said to have been created by a human with a particular interest in magic."
The man standing looked to the one sitting, a look of disdain on his face. "Still, to place all this on a risk, a complete gamble... do you really think he has it? I mean, if he did, wouldn't it mean it's impossible to get it from him?"
"Not entirely. It's been cleverly hidden, although I doubt it will much of a match to my power. And as for your other question, if he does have it, then he probably has no idea what it truely is. For all he knows, it's just a locked book that has no key. You forget, he was too young to probably know, and therefore was never told."
"It's still a gamble. Should I take the girl while I am there? It would save us some time..."
"If you so wish. After all, we still have 11 days," the man replied, drinking once more some tea. "Just remember, you can't kill her or purposely violate her in any way. She must remain pure for the ritual."
"I should be paid extra for this. This isn't why I was hired."
"No it's not, but as you are currently in my service still, I'd like to make use of it." The man finished his tea and set the cup down. He stood and grabbed the robe from it's hanging place. "Now, if you don't mind I think I will check up on our... guest."
The man put on the robe, walking past the other one. The man standing looked to his dagger and chuckled. "Guest? More like prisoner..."

The walk home had been relatively uneventful, but it didn't stop Dosa from rushing to his mother and telling her in detail what had happened. Sophia knew he liked to think of his father as a hero. Truthfully, he was one, but it had felt like such a long time ago, back when they had first met. He was a complete and total stranger, yet had always helpped the town when they needed it. She was sure to gasp at all the right times, and cheer with him as Dosa mentioned about Aivon channeling his earth magic.
"Daddy is so cool! I wanna be just like him when I grow up!"
Aivon smiled, although inside he felt it was grim. For his son still had no idea just how much like his father he would really become one day. Suddenly, a knocked was heard at the door. Sophia had just finished making them lunch when Aivon went to answer it. He figured it was Resas or some other townsfolk come to wish him a thanks for helpping out earlier. It was a true shock to see who was really there.
"Midas?" Aivon stared at Midas in disbelief. He rubbed his eyes, trying to make sure they weren't decieving him and when he was certain of that, proceeded to give Midas a friendly hug. "Midas, it is you! It's been a long while, huh?"
"Yes it has. May I come in. I've had a rather tiring journey and wish to settle down for some rest."
Aivon hastily moved out of the way allowing Midas entrence to his home. It was a fairly simple house really, and despite what anyone thought, Aivon liked it that way. Sophia didn't mind cooking a little extra for a guest, and Dosa seemed completely absorbed by Midas' appearence.
"Hello there. You must be Aivon's son. I'm an old friend of your dad."
"Wow!!! Really!? Really!? Dad, is that true?"
"Yeah. Midas used to travel with me and John and Jessica." Aivon smiled to Midas, who returned it. Midas had changed somewhat really. Before he seemed deviod of most emotions. Now he seemed to be more full of them. "So Midas, what brings you here?"
"Bad news I'm afraid. I've been sensing a evil force rising. I'm not sure what it is, or why it's appeared, but I'm hoping to learn more." Once lunch was served, Midas ate quietly, while Dosa talked about whta he was going to do with his friends today later. Sophia was listening, but Aivon's mind seemed to have wandered. He should have known Midas approaching him wasn't a good sign. After all, Midas was once a servent to the dark enity that lay beyond the Dark Gate. But still, it would have been nicer if this was merely social call.
"I have to think about it Midas. I'll tell you later." In truth, Aivon was torn between this choice. He wanted to stay and be a true father to his own son, something he never had himself. Yet if things were really that bad, he knew he would have to go, if only because to protect his own family, not to be a hero. He had enough experience in that already.
Aivon watched his son play. Surely if he went, it was for him right? All for him? But still, it was for much more then just his own son Dosa. It was for everyone else. He remembered how the woman from that morning had thanked him for helpping her own son. It wasn't just his own family. And he knew Dosa would have Sophia to take care of him, shoud anything happen.
So engrossed with his own thoughts, Aivon hadn't noticed Midas walk next to him. "John won't be coming." Aivon turned to him confused.
"Why? Is something the matter?"
"He doesn't want to go. I won't force him either." Aivon looked stunned. Why would he not want to go? Surely John was concerned, right? "If you say yes, then it's just you and me."
Aivon nodded. "I guess I should say something to my family first. Dosa would be proud of his father going out to save everyone, but I'm more worried about Sophia. It was easier to leave with John and Jessica before, but now..."
Midas placed a comforting hand on Aivon's shoulder. His face was filled with concern for the half-demon. "I'm sure she will understand. But for now, take all the time you need."
Aivon looked back to Dosa. He was laughing and playing with other children. I'll do it... for you my son.
