Chapter 5- Flight from Fate

Thanks for the review again Moonstar! Nice to see you still like my work. Yes, I am updating this kinda fast it may seem. Or maybe your not checking fast enough. I don't know. What I do know is that this is a chapter update!

Chapter 5

Dawn had risen casting the land in it's warm glow of light, yet Antros continued his running. He had to put some distance from himself and the kingdom, and knew the best way to do that was to not stop and look back, especially mere hours after his accusation. He had avoided the main road as he knew it wouldn't be safe to travel there for awhile. News of the death would soon reach the public ears, and he wouldn't be surprised if he found wanted posters of himself soon in the nearest town. Rekia would be looking high and low for him. Even Antros knew he was no fool when it came to matters like this. He wasn't the Guard Captain for nothing.

It was near noon when Antros reached the shade of a tree in the field. The road couldn't been seen from where he was, so it wasn't likely that he would be seen either. "Great, so now that this is done..." Antros shook himself. He needed to rest, but he wasn't sure if it was safe to do so in broad daylight. Still, this is no different then my earlier traveling days. I just gotta remember the rules of the wanderer.

Antros settled himself to sleep. He had to keep his energy up if he was going to make it to the next town. But would he even enter? He had to get a new weapon and garments. He couldn't very well parade around in the clothes of the kingdom, he would be spotted too easily. All the while he wondered. Who wants to do this to me... and why?

It wasn't long before sleep came and claimed Antros' weary body. As he slept, his brother had appeared from the behind the tree, as if emerging from nothing. He stared at him silently, watching Antros sleep, and occationally shudder once or twice. Feeling bored, he turned his back to him. "Rest well brother. You time for judgement has not yet come. I want to have a little more fun with you before I kill you for your crime." As he walked away and vanished from sight, Antros turned and shivered in his sleep as if he was being doused in cold water.

My plan will work... and you will fall dear brother...

At the castle in the throne room, Rekia was making hs report to the queen and her daughter. The queen seemed understand what was happening, though it was obvious by the look of her face that she didn't like what she was hearing. Ayisa was in complete distress over the incident. She seemed to be on the verge of tears.

"And that's all. I suggest we-"

"No!" Ayisa shouted, surprising Rekia, but not her mother. "Antros did not do this! He couldn't!"

"He could, and did. The weapon used was Antros' own. We caught him withdrawing the weapon and the blood was fresh. It was a bit careless I admit-"

"But there has to be some explaination!" Ayisa said desperately. "Mother, please, you can't really agree!"

Ayisa's mother shook her head. "While I don't want to believe this is true, I must agree with Captain Rekia, that this is most disturbing. We have already sent someone to tell about the lost of thier leader. But someone has to pay for the crime. It is a most serious offense."

"I will send guards immediately to the nearby towns. I shall raise the alert to be on guard for him. We will find him, not to worry."

Rekia walked out but Ayisa was still not convinced. She turned ot her mother, tears welling up in her eyes. "Mother, you can't be serious... You know that Antros would never do anything like this. What could he possibly obtain from it?"

"I know my daughter, I know. But right now we don't have a choice. The least we can do is give him a chance to explain and prove his innocence."

Rekia was walking throught to the training room where several guards were practicing. Rekia was a tough soldier, who spent most of his life under service to the queen. When a small force had kidnapped some people from the kingdom and threatened thier safety, Rekia had come with a plan to not only save the captured people, but to capture those that threatened them. He was proclaimed a hero and made the Captain of the Guards.

When Antros had arrived to the castle, Rekia gave him almost no regards. He had heard he was a simple traveler who did nothing more then move from place to place. When it became apparent that he would be staying however, he had Antros swear an oath to the kingdom. Ever since, Rekia had kept an eye on Antros, not only to make sure he kept to his word, but to see what years of traveling had done for his technique.

Rekia hated to admit it, but Antros was indeed as good as he proclaimed to be. Perhaps even better, for Rekia always felt as if he held back from fighting. He hoped to prove himself the better of the two by challenging Antros, but thier matches always were interruptted before they could finish. He hoped to one day defeat Antros in an attempt to keep him from talking about all his little 'adventures'.

Now is the perfect chance. He thought, as he entered the room, at which point every guard stopped and saluted. "Listen up! The rouge that once served our kingdom, Antros, is hereby placed on priority capture alert. I want a small force of men ready to go by sundown. The orders are to bring him in alive, but you may use force if neccessary."

"Sir... with all due respect... do you think we can catch him?"

"Of course we can! He is unarmed! How strong can he be without a weapon?"

Truthfully, Rekia didn't dare want to find out.
