Freedom?
Serena crossed, and uncrossed her legs. She had found one of her mother’s robes to wear while Lena was telling the story, so that her breasts were not waving hello to the entire world. She could hardly concentrate now, though. All she could think of was that she was being used. Her mother had done this all on purpose.
“Mom,” Serena said, as calmly as she could. “You know that Orphen will never allow that to happen. He has ever intention of breaking me; I will never have the powers that you have if he does that.”
Lena shook her head ad walked over to her daughter, the same saucy saunter still in her hips from the time that she had seduced Orphen. “My dear, it is why you must take initiative,” she told her daughter. “There is no way he can resist your beauty, or your charms. He will never say no to you if you come on to him first.”
Serena did not believe this at all. “I will not be a part of your games, mother,” she snapped, crossing her arms against her chest. “I want you to be honest with me. Why are you doing this all?”
“I told you already,” Lena said impatiently, walking back across the room and to her cupboard of potions and herbs. “I want to be the true ruler, I want to be the one pulling the strings, but no one listens to a visionary queen, so they will listen to an Elvin King.”
“Why?”
“Why?” Lena snorted. “My naïve daughter asks me ‘why’.” She turned to face Serena, a glowing blue potion held in a vial in her hands. “Because I want the Elvin people to not be the highest race. I want them to see that the visionaries, the furries, the humans, and the mystics, are all part of this world too. If I can make the Elvin’s see these people as that, people, then we may have a world of peace.”
“But mother, he is taking over the kingdoms by killing these people!” Serena screamed, suddenly standing away from the table.
Lena shook her head and sighed. “You are naïve, and you are bordering on dumb. Pay attention for once, and you will know the true answer. He is not killing us, or our people, he is killing other Elvin people for their thrones. The Elvin race is the race to rule them all, but if he kills enough of them, then we will be evenly matched. We can mix our races and create a new, better race of man.”
Serena shuddered and wrapped her arms around herself. “No, Mother, you are having innocent people killed for your greed.”
Lena shrugged. “Greed is a part of life,” she told her daughter. “It will always be there. Are you going to be the pawn, or the one who is controlling the game?”
Serena lifted defiant eyes to her mother. “You already told me I was just a pawn.”
Lena gave her Gallic shrug that meant everything and nothing. “My dear daughter, one must be a puppet before they become the puppet master. Be happy I am having you seduce a man of Orphen’s good looks, and great abilities. I could have always had you go sleep with a troll, as your dear mother had to do on countless occasions to keep them from infiltrating the clearing.”
Serena tried not to gag on that thought. Trolls were built like humans, they weren’t even that much taller than humans, but the many limbs and appendages were thicker, and their teeth were sharper, and their smell was dirtier. Serena had seen one troll up close in her life, a troll naked and ready for action that had broken into the village of a nearby kingdom. He was raping women, and the length of him, the pure size, was so large that every woman was bloody afterwards, and here her mother talked about it like it had not been a horrifying experience, just another one for her record books.
“You will do it too, one day,” Lena said, which had Serena shuddering and shaking her head no. “You will do it for power, for protection, for your people. Trolls have basic needs, like animals. And since other trolls are not as tight, and do not scream as much, human women become a much more fallible taste.”
“You are sick,” Serena snapped, turning towards the door. “I have to leave before the hour grows late and Orphen sees fit to punish me for not being at home on his very whim.”
“Serena, I need you to do what I ask of you,” she told her daughter. “I need you to seduce him, to come into your powers, and further have control over his very desires. If you do this to me, I will release you from his bonds, and mine, and you will be tied to no one. You will make your own decisions.”
“That is going to happen at twenty-one, anyway,” Serena said, not turning to face her mother.
Lena let out a sigh and had to remind herself to stop calling her daughter naïve. “No, you are allowed to come home to me at twenty-one, you still belong to both of us.”
“How did you come about giving me to him?” Serena asked, turning to her mother with a wide-eyed innocence that was soon to be lost. “Why do I belong to him now?”
Lena walked to her daughter and patted her on the shoulder. “That is a story for another time,” Lena told her daughter, and then saw her out.
