Chapter 6: Never give up
As the trio walked into the hospital and up to the Nurses Station desk, the tension coming off of the young man made everyone give him a wide berth. You just knew this man was wound so tight he could explode at any moment and you didn\'t really want to be around when he did.
Joe\'s mother, Sarah, asked if they could see Jessi Strucker, and the nurse said yes. And that she was in room 356 and then proceeded to tell them about Jessi\'s condition. But by that time Joe had already taken off down the hall to Jessi\'s room. As his parents were speaking still with the nurse he arrived at the door to the room. It was a single room and Jessi had 3 different I.V.\'s hooked up to her. Plus a nasal oxygen unit. The right side of her skull was bandaged. Joe hoped that the doctors hadn\'t had to cut too much of her hair off.
The wires that were taped to her chest to monitor her heartbeat looked glaringly obvious next to her too pale skin. Joe felt something insode of him snap and he fell to his knees next to her bed. \"C\'mon, baby look at me. I\'m so sorry that I wasn\'t there for you.Please forgive me. I should have stopped it. Please look at me. \" Joe was babbling as tears streamed down his face. His attention was focused solely on the girl laying in the bed. He didn\'t hear his parents walk into the room.
Joe jumped when his father put his hand on Joe\'s shoulder. That\'s when they told him the news. Jessi was in a coma. There was some bleeding in her head and although there was no brain damage that the doctors could see, her head had some major trauma that would take some time to heal. Physically her body was surviving on it\'s own. But the doctors had seen this type of thing before and believed that it was up to Jessi if she ever came out of it.
Joe felt like his heart was being ripped out of his chest. He grasped Jessi\'s hand tightly in his and sat in the chair next to her bed. He started talking to her then. Telling her that if she would just come back to him he would find a way to save her from her father. That he\'d never let him hurt her again. Minutes turned into hours, and hours to days, and he never left her side. He wanted to be there when she woke up. He had to believe that she would wake up.
When he slept he dreamt of the day Michael had caught them.
