They had started the shooting few weeks ago and Mae was doing her best to avoid Jason. But it was hard as Luc wanted him to work his part with her. She was doing her best to tell him how she saw the character and adapt it to his own personality. He often had interesting questions. He made the character alive. She was glad finally that Luc had chosen him. Yes, it was a great a good choice.
On the other hand, she didn’t felt at ease around him. She had noticed that he always wanted to talk to her before doing anything else when he arrived on the set. She noticed the way he was looking at her, the way he touched her whenever it was possible. She was making huge efforts to forget about those nights more than a year ago. Yet seeing him everyday made those efforts unuseful. Often, she would have her panties drenched in her juices just because he ‘brushed’ past her, or touch lightly her shoulder.
But still it was annoying the hell out of her that she had to spend so much time with him. She was afraid that one day her tongue would slip she would say the truth about Sam and then, Jason would take her son away from her, and would never see him again. She was afraid that she would fall again for him.
It was a bit irrational, but she was stressed and couldn’t help it.
Often she would be found with Samuel on her hips and giving the directives Luc gave her. He had made it pretty clear to everyone that it was as much his movie as hers.
Jason found it very hard every day to not look at her the way he used too when they were in Paris. Most of the time, he had to focus. But when the director said ‘cut’ he was no longer the character but Jason Ashcroft. He was a bit lunatic, he was focused only when he got his 5 minutes talk with her in the morning. Beside that he was doing a great job. He longed to have her in his bed, and was jealous of the man who gave her Samuel.
§§§§
Samuel was pretty much the star on the set. He was not a crying a baby. Always smiling, he babbled a lot though you couldn’t understand what he said.
“Aw he’s such a cuttie!” said one of the hair dresser one day. “How old is he already?”
“Just 5 months,” answered Mae.
“And where is the father? Must be as cute as the baby, right?”
“The father left,” replied Mae coldly. She didn’t like all those questions. It was a semi-truth, she knew it. But it was better than saying well, it’s Jason Aschroft, the star of the movie. No way!
“Oh, that’s so sad.”
“He’s not sad,” replied Mae about Sam.
“Well of course.” The hair dresser took the hint to not ask her any further questions.
“A bit nosy, huh?” said a familiar voice behind her.
“What? Rosie? Yeah.” Rosie was the name of the hair dresser.
“Don’t mind her she’s always like that. But she’s a nice person.”
“I’m sure she is,” Mae said.
“So he’s 5 months old,” continued Jason.
“Yes, he is.”
“Well you seem to have replaced me really quickly,” he teased.
This kind of conversation made her really uneasy. And it was happening more and more often.
“It’s not like we were engaged or something, right?”
“Right. Listen I’m sorry about the way I left. It was rude.”
“It’s ok. I don’t really want to talk about it ok. Just ...just forget it.” She took Samuel and hurried away.
§§§§
“What did you do to her again?” asked Ashley Scott, Jason’s partner. “She seems to always be nervous around you.”
“Nothing. I just talked about the way we met some months ago.”
“Oh, I didn’t know you two already met before Luc,” said Ashley eye brow raised.
“Well, like she puts it, it was not really meeting, meeting but more like two people bumping into each other,” he tried to joke.
“So how did you guys met?” insisted Ashley. She had a thing for Jason. Who wouldn’t? And she wanted to know where to stand with Mae. Because, she may not be a movie star, she was beautiful, and she was the kind of girl, the guys loves till the end of their life.
“About a year ago,” answered Jason still following Mae with his eyes.
“How interesting! Maybe you knew the father then?”
“What?” That snapped him out of his reverie.
“Well, you said you guys met about one year ago, and there’s a bet going on the set about how Samuel’s father was. You know, if he wall tall? Handsome, and his hair? Those kind of thing. I was going to ask Luc but as you knew her before maybe you met him.”
He started to think about it. Samuel’s father. He was jealous of that man and trying hard to ignore the fact that Samuel existed. And then, Ashley pointed out some very interesting things to him.
He knew that she was with nobody at that time. She wasn’t a easy girl, he was her first. He knew it. That’s when realization dawned on him. He was so stupid! Why hadn’t he thought about it earlier!
“Shit! She lied to me!”
Ashley was shocked by his behaviour.
“Are you ok?” she called after him.
But he didn’t care about what he said. He stood up and went to look for Mae.
§§§§
“Why didn’t you tell me?” he yelled.
“Tell you what?” she snapped back.
“You know what?”
“I don’t know what you’re...oh my god....” She understand too well what he was talking about. He had found out about Samuel.
She fell on the nearest chair with Samuel still in her arms.
“Who told you?” she asked in a small voice.
“No one, I just thought about it.”
“I...I thought he didn’t matter. That I didn’t matter.”
People were starting to gather around them wondering what all the fuss was about.
“How could you say that he doesn’t matter, that you didn’t matter!” yelled Jason angrily.
“Let me recall you : ‘it was nice meeting you, hope we’ll meet again someday’ Oh I forgot, ‘I had to go’ that right?” she snickered.
“I apologized about that!”
“It doesn’t matter Jason! It doesn’t! Just don’t take him away from me ok?” she uttered in a small voice.
She left the set tears running down her face and her son crying loudly in her arms.
§§§§
She had ‘ran’ to get home. To be safe. But there was nowhere to be safe anymore.
“What were you thinking? What was that about?” shouted Luc.
“I…It wasn’t my fault ok! He’s the one who started it!”
“Are you 5?”
She broke down and cry.
“I’m sorry.”
The French director ran his hands in his hair and then craddled her in his arms.
“It’s okay. Tell me what happened.”
He waited until she stopped crying and went back to calm mode.
She knew she had to tell him.
“It’s about Samuel,” she started.
“What about Samuel?”
“Jason is his father. When we met about one year ago, we spend some time together. He left and I found out
I was pregnant only ten weeks after. I…It was really stupid. I was old enough to know the risk…”
“We all make mistakes…” the director supplied.
“Samuel is not a mistake!” she retorted.
“No he’s not. I’m talking about your choice for the father of your child.”
She smiled a little.
“Jason is…not ready to be a father. And I don’t want him to do anything if he feels like he has to…you know?”
“I know. Everything will be okay. But you two need to talk. About Samuel. About everything.”
“Okay.”
§§§§
After Mae had left the set, Jason had done the same though there were still many things to shoot. Luc was clearly angry and called his agent threatening to fire the ‘kid’ if he continued. David had promised he would find out what happened.
“What’s gotten to you?”
“I wasn’t think. I know he must be angry…”
“Angry! He said if you didn’t show up in the next hours, he would fire your ass, chase you down, and kill you!” yelled David.
“Ok, so the mighty Luc Besson is more than pissed.”
A silence fell upon them.
“What happened kid?” the agent asked more calmly.
“Mae…”
“What? She said she wouldn’t date you?”
Jason was well known to break some heart but David had noticed the way Jason looked at her. It was different. She was different. He was seeing her as his protégé’s downfall.
“Samuel is my son,” Jason finally admitted. “And don’t you go telling that to anyone! You heard me!”
“Ok. So she told you that Samuel is your son. Didn’t you think that maybe it was someone else’s baby? That she’s just an opportunist? Look at her relation with Luc! Open your eyes! Nothing of this kind would happen if you managed to keep your dick in your pants!” he reproached.
“What can I do?”
“Ask her for proof. And tell her to stop drooling over you. You two need to talk.”
§§§§
That was how the meeting was arranged. The former lovers met at Besson’s house in the Orange County.
“Where is Samuel?” asked Jason.
“He’s not here. My sister arrived yesterday, she took him out with her fiancé,” said Mae.
“Listen, I’m sorry about my reaction yesterday. It was very rude…”
“Like yourself. You want anything to drink.”
“Strong alcohol? You got that here?” he inquired.
“I’d rather like that we both be sober enough to sort this situation out,” she admitted.
“You’re right. I want a test. I want a proof that he’s my son.”
“I…what?” Her expression was one of a pure shock.
“Come on, you come back out of nowhere, and then you tell me that Samuel is my son..”
“What? Can you hear yourself! I gave you my virginity! How can you think that there was someone else but you?”
“There is Luc.”
“Oh no! Don’t go there! Luc is like a father to me! He gave me a job, and I’ll be forever thankful for that but you telling me that there’s more to our relationship than that! You have a sick mind!”
“I don’t care what you think Mae! I want an establishment of paternity. If I am the father then we’ll deal with it.”
“Deal with it? IT? Is that how you see Samuel! You must forget that I didn’t tell you anything! You said that you, YOU, thought about it!” she shouted pointing a finger at him. “I didn’t ask you anything! I didn’t even know that he had choose you for the leading role.”
“Oh, so know you’re saying that my acting sucks?!”
“Don’t make me say what I didn’t say Jason.”
The bell rang cutting their argument.
She turned around and went to open the door.
“Your son is really cute!” said a feminine voice in the lobby.
“I know,” answered Mae. “Where’s Aurélien?”
“Parking the car. You ok?”
“Samuel’s papa is here. Can you take him upstairs?”
“Sure.”
“I want to see my son,” Jason demanded as soon as she set foot in the living room.
“You forgot, you don’t believe he’s your son. You want a test first. And even if you’re his father. I don’t want you approach my son. Is that clear?”
“You can not tell me that!”
“Who says I can’t? You didn’t recognize him as your son and I’m not asking anything from you. Shouldn’t you be happy?”
“I want to see him,” he repeated.
“Well I don’t want you to see him. And I’m his mother, and I have every right. So go to hell. If you worry about the movie. Don’t, I’ll be gone by tomorrow. Somebody else will do my work. Now get out of here!”
“I want the test Mae!”
“And I don’t. I’m not asking you anything Jason. I’m sorry you learned that Samuel is your son. But first and foremost, he is my son. And I won’t let you near him, if all you want if to mess everything up. Now go. I’m sure we’ve already said enough things that we’ll both regret in the morning.”
He closed the gap between them and kissed her on the cheek.
“Good bye Mae.”
“Bye Ja…”
She was cut out by his hungry kiss.
“Mae…I’ve missed you so much.”
“That line is still working?” she teased.
“Shut up!”
They were back to kissing, tongues duelling for dominance, hands roaming over each other’s body.
Somehow, she had discarded her blouse and him, his shirt. He was naked to the waist and she only had her black lace bra left on her.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” coughed a male’s voice. “I’ll go look for Cora.”
“She’s upstairs!” called Mae after the young man.
“And he is?” asked Jason.
“My sister’s fiancé. They’ll marry next month.”
“Oh, congratulations.”
“You thought he was one of my conquest?” she teased.
“Don’t go Mae. Don’t. I need you.”
“You’ll find someone else,” she supplied.
“No. Don’t go. Don’t leave me.”
“You don’t deserve it.”
“I know,” he admitted. “But I know Samuel is my son and I want to get to know him. And I want to get to know you. So don’t go. Please.”
There they were, her straddling his hips and his hands on her hips. Half clothed, hair already dishevelled.
“I’m sorry. I have to go anyway. My grand-ma is sick. That’s why Aurélien and Cora are here. She wants her benediction before she dies you know.”
“Will you come back?” he asked though he was afraid of her answer.
“I don’t know,”she admitted.
