Chapter 7

Chapter 7~

Nydia woke from her dreams to feel the warmth of a small fire at her side. She td hed her head and saw the man with golden eyes leaning against a tree. She looked at him for a moment, before he turned his head and caught her gaze. A gasp stuck in her throat at the intensity of his golden gaze. He moved toward the fire and took a piece of meat away from the flames. “Here,” he said holding it out for her, “eat.”

The smell of the meat made Nydia remember just how hungry she really was. She took it carefully, making sure she did not touch his hand as she did so. She finished the small meal quickly, and he didn’t seem to mind her lack of manners as she did so. After she finished the meat and had sipped some water he had given her, her mind began to work again. “Who... who are you?” She asked.

He didn’t look at her, he continued to stare at the surrounding trees as he spoke. “My name is Saxen. And you’re name is?”

“My name is Nydia. I want to... I mean... thank you for, um, saving me from those men. I don’t want to think about what would have happened if you hadn’t been there.” She said and he just nodded. “I- I don’t have anything to give...”

“I don’t want anything of yours.” He said, finally looking at her as he spoke. “You owe me no explanation or thanks.” She gave him a small smile, but he turned away from her again. “Go to sleep. We can figure things out in the morning.”

Nydia looked at him for a moment before laying back down. She stared into the fire for a few moments, her emotions in a jumble. Then, slowly, she slipped back to sleep, and dreamed of her father again.
~~~
He had felt it again. The raw power that flowed through that girls veins. As he had carried her, and held her while she listened to the men speaking, he had felt her power run from her into him. She had no control over it yet, and as he had carried her back to his camp he had heard what only she was supposed to hear. The voices of the trees, and of the earth.
Our gentle human daughter will be safe now. She is with the one who speaks with wolves.
They trusted him. He didn’t know why but they did, and he hated not knowing. He watched Nydia as she slept, her even breathing making her chest rise and fall gently. When she had been frightened of the men she had reached out to the trees and the earth for comfort without realizing. And, he had heard and seen the branches of the trees reach out to comfort the the trembling girl.
Saxen looked away from her and opened his mind to his wild brothers and sisters. Grey One, there are three men breaking camp to where the sun raises. They are dangerous, be wary of them. He gave the scents of the men to Grey One and all the wolves nearby.
We wolves usually remain far from people, why these people so dangerous? The old wolf rep.
.
They wish to harm the prophesied one. At these words howling filled the air as this message was heard be every wolf within two miles of him. Wolves hated only two things, people that used weapons to hurt their brothers and fire. The prophesied one was supposed to save the earth from a great fire. The wolves wanted the prophesied one to live.
We should hunt these men to make sure that they do not harm the One. They will not see rise of the sun again. Grey One replied and Saxen heard the murmuring agreement of many other wolves. You join hunting with us Young Hunter?
I wish to brother, but I should remain and watch the One. She sleeps, and is vulnerable to harm. Saxen replied, as his wild blood yearned to join his brothers and sisters in their hunt. Be wary of fire which the men have with them, your thick fur burns easily.
We wolves cannot love fire, but we shall jump up through it to reach those who wish the One harm. And one of the first lessons which a mother teaches her young pups, is to roll in dirt when our fur lights up. Do not excite Young Hunter, you remain and observe the precious one who will save the ground. We shall meet again at the next fall of the sun. Grey One replied and called to all the wolves who were near enough to hunt the three human men.
Saxen broke the mental link and looked back at Nydia. She had rolled on her side and was facing away from him. Yes, he would watch her, he would live up to his part of the prophecy as well. He would teach her all he knew about her powers, and he would try to help her learn to control them, just as he had learned to control his. He would help her... just as the prophecy demanded.
‘She will grow with people
Not knowledge who she is valid.
She will run from fear
And she will find safety in hands of the wolf.
She will study,
who she is valid
From its gift,
From its destiny.
She will save the ground from big fire,
And she will help the ground to grow.
The child of trees will save all.’
AN: Yeah I know... I repeated the prophecy that I just introduced three chapters ago. I know, I know... But all the small revilations about the voices of the earth, Saxen\'s part in the prophecy and all that are linked back to it so it was just sorta logical. And now for a random fact... Some 36 year old guy from Iraq IM-ed me today... and that was today\'s random fact, I hope you enjoyed it. I don\'t know when the next chapter will be up, my dad just got out of the hospital and he needs some help so I\'ll be over at his place a lot so you\'ll just have to wait.
