Family Portrait
Has Aff's background changed again? I swear it has. Which is annoying only because it's not what I'm used to. Something about Rel has really bothered me and has me worried. He keeps referring to Ashun (Violet from Partners) as "young woman" when Mik and Rel both refer to Sidhe as male and female, not man and woman. I can't figure if this is a comment on how Ashun is like a people, or if maybe Ashun isn't entirely Sidhe. I find myself searching for titles in Sidhe, just because I know for the most part you guys don't know Sidhe and thus the title won't give away information. Odd, or what?I was supposed to be working on Bond Mates, for those of you interested in the re-write, but instead started working on this. Now I have to go off to bed as it is late and my brain isn't working. Read, Review and enjoy. He drew a picture of his family, at Osht and Raoh’s insistence. Little stick figures and a crooked house. Rel sucked at drawing. Over top of the drawing, Raoh wrote in red crayon, symbols that Rel easily translated. Raoh marked his younger brother as dead, his father as what must have been a bad word and his mother was a simple circle. Osht then handed Rel a new piece of paper and leaned over him while drawing a new family portrait. Which had Osht and Raoh standing between Rel and everyone else. Ashun stood beside Raoh, between Raoh and the other stick figures. Stick figure after stick figure as Osht listed off each name, pointing at them and waiting for Rel to repeat each name back to him. These were the members of the tribe. These were the partners and those close to the program. On the outer edges of his family was even a cleaning lady who, from Osht’s impression of her, despised having to clean up after the Sidhe. A Sidhe family was not mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt and uncle. A family was not who he was born to, but who he made it of. He could keep his blood relations however he pleased, he could take Raoh and Osht as they were or keep them at arms length. His family was who he invited close to him, not who he shared blood with. How complicated was having sex in such a family, Rel wondered? How did the Sidhe distinguish who was and was not okay to have sex with, to breed with or touch or … sex up in some way?Raoh taped up both family portraits, attaching them to a pillar. A statement of the differences between people and Sidhe, a statement of the differences between Rel and Lel? Or perhaps it had nothing to do with Lel and Rel or people and Sidhe and was simply Raoh saying that he accepted Rel’s image, but liked his own just the same. Neither was right or wrong, but each was … simply an existence. Once their craft was ‘done’ Osht wandered towards Ashun and somehow got the young woman covered in glitter. To which she was cursing and swearing and had to shower because of stupid, clumsy males. Rel helped Raoh clean up and received a smile, a genuine smile, before Raoh wandered towards the kitchen. The Sidhe seemed intent on making himself a snack and went through all the cupboards. Rel turned towards the television and turned it on again, flicking through the channels as Muan edged slowly towards him. He settled on news for a bit, a story about how the mysterious deaths had stopped and sliding right into an archaeological find that had been halted by the government, a battlefield that the government claimed was halted for biological concerns. The station claimed that the government was covering up the fact that Sidhe or daemonic bodies had been found amongst the bones. He flicked, annoyed with the news station, up a channel and found himself on a music station. “And up next, the witty new pop song from Sidhe in My Pants, that has hit the top of the charts, yes, ladies and gentlemen, we have ‘Lovin’ you’” the broadcaster smiled politely to the camera and then the show flipped to the music video. A guitar started and Muan’s head cocked to the side. A drum cued in and the Sidhe’s head bobbed to the music. When the lyrics started, Muan moved in front of the television set, head still bobbing, and watched the music video through its entirety. The next song made Muan cock his head to the other side. It was a slower song about heartbreak and Muan seemed to not like it as much. A song later and Muan was bobbing along, some kind of club dance techno thing that had the Sidhe tapping his leg and be-bopping to the music. The other Sidhe moved closer, intent on Muan’s reaction to the music. Nave was the first to step up to Muan’s side and watch Muan, really watch the Sidhe, and nod along, trying to imitate Muan’s head bobbing but not understanding the beat of the music. Rel got a twisted idea. He dragged the laptop out of the cupboard and turned it on, flicking up a video site. Once it was all loaded, he shut off the television and replayed the song ‘Lovin’ you.’ Muan immediately began humming bars of the song. The others seemed surprised by the humming but drew steadily closer. On the third time of the song playing, Muan sang the chorus. Not well, Muan sang it like someone imitating the sounds he heard and not with a full understanding of the actual words. By the time Rel hit the song to play the fourth time, Muan was singing it all the way through. “Lovin’ you is like losin’ mah heart,” which was unfortunately how the moron singer sang the song, “Lovin’ you is the only thing ah live for.”Muan paused after the chorus and looked pointedly at Rel, for the briefest of moments before looking at the television remote that sat beside Rel on the couch. Muan snatched it up and plopped down on the opposite end of the couch of Rel, jabbing buttons until the television came on. Rel shut off the laptop and watched Muan turn the television set on and off, on and off. Once Muan figured out how to turn the television on and off, he jabbed at buttons, randomly changing the channel by pushing number buttons. Muan brought up the menu of the television options and accidentally changed the tones of the colouring, skewing everything into yellows and oranges, before skewing it into blue and then into a black and white picture. Somehow Muan hit the button to reset the colours back to the manufacturing standard. The Sidhe delighted in the proper colouring and began jabbing buttons immediately. The channel flickered to static for a moment before asking for some sort of code. Confused, Muan jabbed at buttons randomly and… All of a sudden there was porn on the television set. Two males, the smaller on screaming something into the pillow as the bigger one thrust into him, too hard and too fast. It couldn’t have been a pleasant position, even with the … events… that happened before the filming of such movies. Muan looked startled and jabbed at the buttons. The Sidhe looked worried and upset and huffed out several times as he tried to change the channel, only to change the colours and the contrast and to set it all back again. Muan glanced uncomfortably at Rel and back at the television before hitting the off button. Lips pressed together in annoyance, Muan gave the television a look and glanced quickly at Rel, worried, then away again. Muan’s breathing was uneven, the Sidhe was seriously concerned about… About Rel’s reaction to the pornography. Rel huffed out, letting all the air out of his lungs. He noted how the Sidhe eyed him. The females seemed to convey approval. Uhwan and Muan were suddenly wary of him. Raoh and Osht pretended nothing had happened. Rel snatched the remote from Muan and flicked the television back on. He jabbed in the channel number for a ‘soft porn’ channel he knew about and happened to like and then set the remote on the coffee table. It was the start of a show. Which is what the channel had. Shows, sort of like soaps that women watched except with one intent. Sex with everyone and everything. That particular show, oddly enough, was a favourite of Rel’s and was a repeat of when the two main characters got together. As in. Had hot sex. Again. And again. It had been made into a two hour special of sex. And more sex. Then cuddling and kissing and that romance stuff that Rel enjoyed so much. The two main characters started talking, in the… receiver’s bedroom… and ended up having sex. Which always got Rel in the mood for something more than just… touching. Muan watched the television, wide eyed, mouth slightly ajar, as they had sex on the bed. Things that no man had ever offered to do for Rel. Ashun had a similar look on her face as Muan had. Despite claiming to be grown, obviously the young woman had never encountered actual sex before. Osht and Raoh murmured to each other in Sidhe, huffing and adjusting themselves in ways that suggested that they were willing to try that or the other position. And suddenly the television set had the attention of six Sidhe for two hours. They hardly blinked, Rel noted. And Nave, Uhwan, Osht and Raoh all had the air of critiquing while Ashun and Muan looked startled, like they had never seen anything like that before. Once it ended, Muan turned to Nave and said, “Hh’s’wa’joo?”“What did he just…” Rel looked at Ashun pointedly. “I… don’t know… something, something penis,” Ashun consulted with the other Sidhe before looking at Rel, “we think he asked something like, would you react like that. Or… it might have been a comment on how big the … star’s… penis was…”.
