Chapter 5

"Oh, Merry Christmas I guess?"

At this point everybody in the room: Sam, Mary, Bob and Tommy started to cry. Sam and Mary gave big dramatic wails about how happy they were that Gemma was back with them whereas Tommy and Bob simply let their tears of joy roll unchecked along their cheeks.

After a long session of hugs and a few phone calls, Gemma had a few questions for them all, the biggest one on her lips...

"Mum are you pregnant or have you just been comfort eating?"

Mary had entirely forgot about her unborn bundle of joy, she must have been caught up in all the emotion of having Gemma back in the realm of the living.

"39 weeks gone to be precise, your little sister Sophie should be here on new years day if everything goes according to plan"

"Oh yay, now I get a little sister to torture! How have you been by the way sis?"

All Gemma wanted to do was grab her sister and give her a more than sisterly kiss but she wouldn\'t dare with her parents in the room.

"I\'m fine, even better now that your awake."

"Thats nice. So as terrible as this sounds, i think I need some rest. You guys can go home and have dinner, after all you know where to find me"

"Don\'t be daft, we\'re not leaving you! We just got you back!"

"Yeah, we\'ll have Christmas dinner here." Said Mary, it was a statement that wasn\'t up for dispute and everyone knew it.

---------------------------

With a \'minor\' dispute from the nurses of the ward, Mary was allowed to have Christmas dinner with her daughter and the rest of the family, although it was a dulled down version. Instead of a turkey they made-do with chicken sandwiches from the hospital canteen along with lumpy mashed potatos and peas. Not your average feast but the family were happy to at least have Gemma back with them.

"Once you get out we can have a proper dinner with all the trimmings" Bob said between bites to his daughter, who didnt quite feel up to the task of earing a full meal having just awoken from an 8 month coma, she found out the hard way that her stomach had shrunk due to the lack of solid food. Gemma barely managed to eat one of her sandwiches before having to go puke.

--------------------

Sam sat in the hospital room, chatting idlely with her sister about nothing in particular. Their parents and Tommy had left for the night but Gemma had insisted Sam stay to keep her company.

Both Sam and Gemma knew what was coming but neither wanted to start it.

They made small talk for a half hour or so before Gemma finally broke the fake silence.

"So, about that night..."

"Listen I dont know what came over me, i was upset, you were there, you were comforting. Someone for me to lean on and... and i\'m sorry I took advantage of your trust."

"No, i\'m sorry that I took advantage of you. You were the one who was emotional, oh hell, all of this is my fault. I\'m the one who ran off and started the whole silent treatment."

There was a pause for a while, both girls unsure of how to continue. Even after months of time to think of what to say, Sam nor Gemma were truly prepared for the real thing.

"You cute when your upset..." said Gemma, at a loss of what else to say.

"Thanks... Your really cute. Period."

"Thanks."

There was a few awkward gazes cast between each sister. The gears in Gemma\'s head were turning as she started to formulate a plan.

Then, out of nowhere, Sam leaned foward and kissed her.

--------------

Bob, Mary and Tommy sat around their kitchen table. Tommy had just told his parents about his feelings towards school and the fact that he was being ignored by everyone.

Tommy struggled to make friends when he first went to school, the only friend he ever really had moved away when he was young and he never really tried again after that.

"Well Tommy, I dont know what else to say other than try being more social. Talk to people you wouldn\'t normally talk to. I remeber when you and Jack used to play around in the grass for hours, you would come back in after dark and tell us about all the thing you did."

"Yes but Jack moved away Mum, no one else at school talks to me."

"Well I dont know what else to say. Bob, do you have any ideas?"

"You could always try to get a girlfriend. Just walk in, look around the class untill you lay your eyes on her and think to yourself \'She is the one\'"

"As if that would work Dad, is that how you met Mum?"

"Oh no, my friends bet me I couldn\'t stick being around your Mother for a week because she was so high maintanance back then, but I went way beyond that stupid bet and fell in love with her."

"Well as stomach churningly cheesy as that is, I need to talk to girls before I can get a girlfriend, let alone a friend."

"It\'s okay buddy, you\'ll-"

"Bob, we gotta go, right now!" Exclaimed Mary in a hurried tone.

"Why what is it sweetie?"

"I think my waters just broke."

Authors note: Apologies for this taking so long and being so short. Im back to writing on my phone which is on the brink of breaking so writing is now quite a laborious process. Plus it doesnt habe a page count so i dont even know how short it is. Sorry if its a disappointment.
