Finding out more

Chapter 5

Jack had stayed clear of Brennan until their next tutoring session the following day after school. If she had been able to tell he was ignoring her she didn’t let on. She didn’t reveal anything about what she thought or what was on her mind.

They went through the material, she answered any questions he had and the whole thing had been very impersonal and it bothered him. “Are you ok?” Jack asked, searching her face for answers. “You’re quieter and weirder then usual.”

“Don’t call me weird.” she hissed as she kept her head down and eyes focused on some book.

“Sorry, so what’s the deal?” He kept staring but she didn’t say a word or acknowledged him in anyway. It was starting to piss him off. “Come on Brennan, talk.” They sat next together at the work station; he reached over and brushed her hair behind her ear. Why? He had no fucking clue.

She shot him a quick glance and turned away just as fast. “You’re confusing and I don’t like being confused so please leave me alone.”

Jack wanted to ask her what she meant and figure out why she was acting more different then usual but he noticed Mr. Toms glancing at them and decided it could wait until he could talk to her alone. They continued on with the session for the next fifteen minutes as they had earlier; detached.

After it was over he followed her outside then pulled her to the side of the building where it was empty. “How do I confuse you?” he asked, picking up right where the conversation had stopped.

“What are you doing?” her back was against the bricks of the school and he stood in front of her blocking any form of exit. “Can you go back to ignoring me? I liked it better.”

So she had noticed he went from asking her questions to turning the other way when they were in the same space. “You’re not the only one confused here. You look like someone I like a lot and it’s making everything complicated.”

That pout that made him wish her lips where somewhere very low on him. “I don’t understand.” She confessed.

“Me either. Is there somewhere you have to be right now?” he asked and she shook her head no. “Do you want to come hang out at my place and we can talk more?” he didn’t want to get inside his car and leave her, he didn’t want the time to be over. The other side of his brain questioned all of this and his sanity but nothing changed the fact he didn’t want her to go.

“We’re talking here.” She pointed out, her tone a little nervous.

“I’m not setting you up on a prank or something I swear. My folks aren’t home and I just thought we could continue this privately is all and maybe work more on tonight’s homework.”

“Do you need more help?” her tone switched to concerned.

Jack knew by now she took pride in tutoring and swore to help until the student wouldn’t need it anymore. “Yes.” He said quickly. “I do.” It was the perfect way to keep her around.

“Ok, I can help you for another hour but then I have to be home.” she didn’t sound completely sure this was a good idea but walked with him to the car anyway.

As Jack had explained his parents weren’t home, he showed her around a little; the living room was pretty big with matching furniture taking up mot of the space along with a large flat screen TV. He took her hand and led her up the spiral staircase to this bedroom which was just as large as the space downstairs, the bed was huge; there was a computer by the window and even a loveseat couch they sat on.

“You’re an only child?” Brennan asked she kept looking around and noted a TV and surround sound system.

“Yeah, I’m pretty spoiled huh?” He watched with an amused grin as she took in his room.

“Looks like you get everything you want.”

“Not always.”

At the sound of his soft voice Brennan looked at him and found he was staring at her. “Is something wrong?” she was concerned.

“A little.” Staring into her blue eyes he found he couldn’t keep his mouth closed. “There’s this girl who’s nothing like my type but she’s getting under my skin and I don’t know what to do about it.”

“Oh…I don’t know anything about that.” She confessed innocently as she reached for his backpack and pulled the math book free.

“I was thinking I should kiss her and see if she feels the same way.” Jack grabbed the book and laid it on the table beside him. He waited until her eyes found him again. “What do you think?”

“Maybe you should talk to her about this.”

He smiled, the fact she was clueless was very adorable. “I am.”

Brennan’s eyes went wide as she said nothing and stared at him with pure shock lacing her expression. Jack decided to go for it and leaned into her, when he was sure she wasn’t going to run for the hills he placed his lips over hers.

He buried his hand in her long hair and pulled her even closer as her mouth opened and gave him the access he craved.

The kiss caught Brennan by surprise but the way it made her felt was an even bigger surprise. Her body danced with excitement and pleasure she hadn’t felt before. It didn’t feel like this when Alec had kissed and touched her. She was coming to realize she liked Jack more then she would toward a friend. She kissed him back, the first time she even kissed a boy back, this seemed to ignite something inside of Jack as he pulled her even closer and moved his other hand up her thigh and waist.

Shit, Jack mentally cursed. This girl was something else. He had been with other girls and kissed a whole lot of them but those kisses never made him this hard to the point he was in pain. He pulled away before he pushed her into a situation she probably wasn’t ready for this soon.

She turned her face away and he noticed she was blushing. “You like me?” she asked.

“I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since our first tutoring session. Do you like me?” Jack asked, teasing her a little bit as he already knew the answer. It had been in her kiss.

“A little.” She admitted shyly.

Jack grinned and moved closer until she was forced to move back and he was on top of her on the couch. “Only a little?” In this position he was able to see her face again. He couldn’t resist the urge to kiss her again.
