Chapter Five:
“What the hell is this small moving thing? It is so crowded, I can't even stretch my legs,” Garrick complained after they had been on the road for about two hours in Devon’s small car.
“It’s not a thing Garrick. It is called a car, and it’s rude of you to call it small in front of Devon. It is his treasure.” Erin snapped at Garrick. “Plus let me point it out to you Garrick, the car isn't small, your legs are just too damn long,” he added. Then he leaned back against the car seat with his arms crossed in front, his face turned towards the car window.
“I am sorry Devon, I didn't mean to be rude.” Garrick apologized to Devon without taking his eyes off the man on the seat next to him.
“There is no need for an apology. I understand where you are coming from, considering that our world is completely different from yours. I'm just sorry that you will just have to put up with this small car of mine a bit longer Prince Garrick, till we get to Arcell,” Devon said to the huge man sitting in the back of his car along with his best friend Erin.
A smile came on Garrick’s lips. He leaned towards Erin and whispered beside his ear, "You see boy, even the man admits the truth that the damn car is too small.”
Did the man have to gloat about everything? Damn him! Erin turned around to tell Garrick to shut up. When he turned his head, he didn't count on Garrick’s face being too close to his until their lips gently touched. In a panic and not knowing what else to do, he shoved Garrick back to his side of the car. “You stay on your side!” he ordered, then he quickly turned away from Garrick to hide the pink blush on his face.
Devon could not help but laugh out loud at what he had just observed from his rear view mirror. “Man, you guys would make one hell of a couple,” he said with laughter.
“Shut up Devon! I wouldn't want to be married to him even if he was the last man in the whole world.” Erin snapped at his friend.
“There is no need for you to worry about that boy, I feel the same way as you, not to mention that I prefer a soft woman over men,” Garrick remarked with a smug look on his face.
“Good! I will make sure to get you back to your world to those women that you prefer so much my barbarian prince!” Erin hissed. And once more he turned his face away from Garrick. He muttered a million curses silently inside his head. Damn, why in the world did he have to be stuck with a man like Garrick?
Devon shook his head at the two. Once in a while he would watch them from his rear view mirror and catch them peeking at each other when the other was not looking. Despite what Prince Garrick had said earlier, Devon still noticed him checking Erin out. Devon smiled.
Erin had fallen asleep, and his head rolled from side to side. Garrick leaned over and gently lay Erin’s head down on top of his thigh. He looked up to see Devon’s eyes watching him through the small mirror. “I like him better when he’s asleep,” he admitted to Devon with a grin.
Devon laughed softly. They didn't wake Erin up until they reached Arcell. The city of Arcell was filled with tall buildings that were constructed from glass walls of many different colors. The streets were lit up by lamps with dark colored posts. Many varieties of flowers and trees were planted as well, making the place look warm and inviting. Garrick thought it was a beautiful place, unlike the place he and Erin had escaped from, which was dark and gloomy and filled with heavy fog. Devon parked the car in his parking lot when they reached his apartment. He stepped out to open the door for his friend and Prince Garrick. They both tried to wake Erin up, but when he would not stir after they had nudged him a few times, they both decided that Garrick would just have to carry Erin inside.
Devon led Garrick to the elevator. He swiped his card and the door slid open for them. Garrick hesitated a bit before entering the strange thing. He glanced down at Erin who was still asleep in his arms. “Damn, the boy really is as light as a feather,” he murmured.
“That is probably because Logan kept him locked up and fed him only bread and water. Just enough to keep him alive,” Devon commented when he heard Garrick.
“What!” Garrick said out loud. “Why?” he asked, gazing down at the sleeping Erin.
“Erin is like his brother Eric, but a lot smarter. He found out about something that he wasn't supposed to, and invented something that got Logan’s attention. Because of that, Logan found that he could use Erin,” Devon explained to Garrick. “Logan charmed Erin into falling in love with him and working for him. His brother Eric was against it and warned him to stay away from the man, but Erin was in love. You know what they say Prince Garrick, when you are in love, you become blinded by everything. Even the smartest man will turn into a fool when they are in love,” said Devon.
Garrick just nodded his head, and Devon continued explaining. “A year later, after they were engaged, Erin realized what was going on and what Logan was up to. When Logan found out that he knew, he locked Erin up in a room down in the basement of one of his facilities. He was only let out to work on whatever it is Logan wanted him to work on.” Devon stopped and glance down at his sleeping friend.
“The only reason I know all of this is because Erin was smarter than Logan thought. He found away to contact me and let me know what was going on. I helped him to escape and we formed a plan on what we needed to do to foil Logan’s plan,” Devon explained.
“He is a smart boy, but dumb as hell when he lost his heart to the wrong guy. However, that is to be expected from someone who is in love,” Garrick commented. “If I ever see that bastard Logan, I will make sure to kill him for the boy,” Garrick announced in an angry tone. He didn't know why he was mad beyond words at what he had just heard. The anger was boiling up inside him.
They stepped out of the elevator two minutes later, and Devon led them to his apartment. He unlocked the door and opened it wide for Garrick, who walked in carrying Erin who was still sleeping soundly. Garrick saw how nice and neat the place was. He was impressed big time to see that this man’s place was way bigger than Erin’s home.
“The bedrooms are up the stairs. The one on the right is the spare room. You can put Erin to sleep in there,” said Devon as he took off his leather jacket and hung it in the closet by the door.
Garrick carried Erin upstairs and put him to bed in the spare room. He pulled the cover up over the boy and closed the door gently on his way out. He went back downstairs and sat on one of the couches. Devon placed a glass of wine on the table right in front of Garrick and then took a seat on the other couch. He picked up the remote next to him and turned the television on.
Garrick leapt out of his seat as soon as the television turned on. He strode over to the big black box. He inspected it from behind, and from top to bottom. He looked up and straight at Devon in confusion. Devon saw the bewildered look on Garrick’s face, and with a laugh he explained to the man what the big black box was.
Erin came down the stairs just as Devon finished explaining to Garrick about the television. “What is going on?” he asked with a big yawn. He covered it up with the palm of his hand.
"I was just telling your prince charming about television," Devon answered.
“Really?” said Erin. His eyes shifted to Garrick who stood in front of the television. “Did you understand him Prince Garrick?” he said with a mocking smile.
“I understood him perfectly fine boy. He explained things far better than you ever could have,” Garrick remarked with a challenging smile on his face.
“Do you always have to have the last word Garrick? Why can't you allow me a moment of victory?” Erin sighed.
Garrick walked over to the boy and smiled widely. “If I do that, then it wouldn't be any fun for me to tease you. Or should I say that I find it very entertaining when you challenge me boy,” he winked and walked back to his seat on the couch. He picked up the glass of wine from the table and sipped it in a relaxed manner with one leg crossed over the other.
Devon saw that a big argument was coming. He excused himself from the living room and retreated up the stairs to his office leaving the two to fight it out. Sure enough, as soon as he closed the door to his office, he heard yelling. The one doing most of the yelling was his friend Erin. With a soft chuckle he sat down in front of his computer and turned it on. With a smile still on his face, he stared at the words on his computer screen.
--------------
Logan had long red hair tied back in a ponytail. His dark brown eyes had just gotten even darker. “Fuck!” he muttered. He smashed the computer screen on his desk with his fist just as his brother Casey entered his office. “I am going to skin that bastard alive! Whoever he is, he better wish that I never find him,” Logan said angrily.
“What happened?” Casey asked his brother.
“Some bastard got into our system and deleted everything I had Erin do for me. All the important files are gone!” he said with as much anger as before. “Tell me, did you find Erin?” He didn't ask, he demanded an answer from his brother.
“I found him alright Logan. He was with another man, a man I did not recognize from around here. He and that man knocked me out and tied me to a tree and then they escaped. I'm sorry to tell you this. I have fail you my brother.” As he was telling his brother this, his thoughts were filled with the handsome man with Erin. For the love of him he didn't understand why he kept thinking of that barbaric man.
“I want him found Casey! Do not step foot back into this city until you have found Erin. Do you understand?” Logan said in a firm voice.
“Yes Logan.” Casey turned and walked out of his brother’s office.
Back at Devon’s place, Erin helped Devon set the table for dinner, while Garrick sat in front of the television, staring at it with awe and behaving like a little kid who had never owned a television before. Erin couldn’t help but notice the big wide smile on his friend’s face. “Why are you in such a good mood?” he asked finally giving in to his curiosity.
Devon looked up from his task and smiled brightly at his friend. “I'm just happy that you are here safe and away from that bastard Logan,” he replied.
“Somehow I get the feeling that you are not telling me the truth, but I guess I can let it slide by since you are happy. Whatever the reason is, it must be a good one.”
“You bet! I am happy for a good reason,” Devon said with a laugh.
They both sat down at the table and called out for Garrick to join them for dinner. “Looks delicious,” Garrick commented when he reached the table. He sat down on the chair at the head of the table and started eating right away.
“This is the best meal I have ever had,” Garrick complimented when they were all done eating.
“Erin cooked it. He is one hell of a cook you know,” said Devon.
Garrick grinned and looked directly at Erin. “If you cook this well, I might have to marry you and bring you back to my world with me. After all, the way to get to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” he said softly with a challenging grin on his face.
“Even if you asked, I wouldn't marry you Garrick. You are a hard man to please,” Erin retorted with a grin of his own, refusing to let the man get the better of him.
Devon couldn't hold it in any longer. He laughed out loud at the two. “Man, you two should see yourselves. You look and act like a couple in love,” he said through his laughter.
“Shut up Devon!” both Erin and Garrick snapped. The two stood up from their chair at the same time and went their separate ways, Erin upstairs to the spare room, and Garrick back to his seat in front of the television. Devon was stuck with the chores.
