Five

Written by Raven of Darkness Shadows

Five

The last few days have been quiet since that triple date thing. Nick and Takeru are finally getting along again, at least somewhat. I watch them play a game on one of Nick’s gaming systems as I eat a sandwich, but when I hear knocking at the door, I put my food on my plate and stand up to answer it. When I open the door, I am shocked to see someone standing on the opposite side, looking very similar to Takeru. “Uh, hi,” I greet him.

“Hello,” he says, and I realize that it’s actually a girl. Then I look down and see the skirt. She looks like a guy when she’s trying to be girly… how stressful that must be. “I’m here to visit my older brother.”

That’s when Takeru suddenly comes up behind me. “You finally made it, Sakura,” he tells her as she walks in and I shut the door. “That’s Alec,” he tells her, gesturing towards me.

“Okay. And he is?” she asks, looking over at a rather annoyed Nick.

“He’s the idiot of the house.”

“Shut the fuck up, Takeru! I am not a fucking idiot!” Nick shouts at him.

Sakura walks right up to him. “You sound like an idiot, and so you must be an idiot.” When he starts growling at her, Takeru swiftly pulls him away into the hall. I wonder what they’re talking about between each other, but I wouldn’t be able to sneak up close enough to hear them with Sakura here. “Is it ever boring here?” she suddenly asks me.

“Well, not really boring, but things have been pretty quiet here.”

“I see…” Sakura walks closer to me, fixing her glasses as she looks closely at my face. “Did you know you look quite feminine, Alec?”

“Uh.” I am caught off-guard with that sudden observation, unable to think of an answer right away. When I have one, I say it. “Do I?” What a lame response…

“Yes, you do. Heh, almost like a girl in disguise.”

Did she just say what I think she said? Oh my god what if Takeru saw something after all and then called in his super-observant sister to confirm it?!! I’m done for!! This is my last day living here!! As my mood continues to keep sinking, Nick approaches her. “That’s quite an insult, girly. Alec is 100% male.”

“Oh? And you have proof of this?” she wonders, watching him closely.

“Well…” A quick glance at me and he thinks of something. “For one, he doesn’t have any breasts.”

“Those can be easily hidden, or they could be very small.”

“I think you’re living in a fantasy world, chick.”

Before they can argue this further, Takeru walks up, taking his sister’s wrist in his hand. “Sakura… I didn’t invite you here so that you could argue with my roommates.”

Sighing, she answers him with, “I’m sorry, brother.” Then she turns to me and bows lightly. “Forgive my words, Alec.”

“Uh huh,” is all I can say. That was waaay too close.

Takeru and Sakura retreat to his room, and Nick growls lightly. “That bitch is annoying.”

“Yeah…”

“And you could have stood up for yourself better,” he says, turning his glare on me. “Hell, you would just let her tell the whole world you’re a girl because you didn’t say anything to deny it.”

I look down glumly, hearing the truth in his words. He’s right. I should have said something instead of freaking out like I did. Man, at this rate, I really will be found out.

An hour later, I excuse myself to go on a walk. The temperature starts dropping and I find myself wishing I had brought my jacket with me. I really, really want it once it starts raining on me. I run into a nearby café and take a seat, sighing deeply. Today was getting to be too stressful for me…

And then someone puts a jacket around my shoulders. I blink in surprise and look up at him. The stranger smiles at me and sits down at the table. “You looked like you needed it,” he says a deep voice.

“Oh, um, thanks…”

“Sure thing, kiddo.” He looks pretty cute, I must admit, but he’s definitely a bit older than me. “So, do you normally walk out in the rain with no jacket?”

“No, I’m just having a really unlucky day…”

“Oh, are you?” He smiles at me and says, “Maybe I can help you get lucky…”

I replay the words in my mind. This doesn’t sound quite right… “Hey, sicko.” Now that’s a very familiar voice. I look up and there is Nick, glaring down at the man. “Maybe you should go find someone your own age.”

The man shifts in the chair next to me. “What has you in such a sour mood?”

Nick gets in the man’s face and firmly tells him to, “Beat it, or I’ll call the cops on you for harassment.” He then takes the jacket off of me and throws it in the guy’s face. The man grumbles something but puts it on and walks outside, to his car. I watch Nick as he sits down in the chair the guy had been in. “Sheesh, you’re so naïve about everything, aren’t you?”

“I thought he was just being nice!” Then it hits me. “And why were you following me?!”

“I am not following you!”

“Then why are you here?!”

“Because… um…” It doesn’t seem like he’s going to finish his sentence any time soon, so I sit there and wait, ready for his answer, whatever it may happen to be…
