Chapter 5

crazykitty: I'm glad you like it, and Kevin. I wasn't really sure if I had made him too... kiddish or not.

Avernion: No, but you have now. You seem to really know how to make me want to update, don't you? I'm glad you think so about Kevin. I would tell you about the characters, more about what is going to happen, but that would be giving it away, wouldn't it? And we can't have that... ;)

It seemed the storm had finally came, when one of the locals ran into the lab with terrible news. Two of their friends that had gotten drunk the night before and went missing, had finally been found.

It took them almost a full day to track the bloody trail to the edge of one of the lakes, to find half eaten bodies, partially buried in the mud.

The news caused a panic amongst the other locals, and most of them hightailed it out on the next few boats out.

A few of the scientists wanted to report it, but knew that it be waved off as some hungry animal. It seemed true, for the most part, but they couldn’t figure out what caused the kind of teeth mark the bodies had.

It looked to be a human’s teeth mark, though much sharper. So sharp, if fact, that it went right through bone, and crushing it in some places.

It really was a mystery, because the scientists couldn’t think of anything that could do it, except…

The locals that didn’t leave, murmured about angry creatures, and spiteful mermaids.

It made sense to John, in a way. Angel wouldn’t eat anything that they gave him, and, last night, for some reason, the monitors went out. It was becoming a natural occurrence.

That’s why, every night for the next few nights, at least one person was stationed in the lab, along with tranquilizers. They also had to keep the doors locked, to make sure that whatever it really was didn’t get in… or out.

Vic himself was confused. Yes, there was myths of mermaids eating human flesh, but he just didn’t know how Angel did it. The top of the tank, the bolts and door, was fine, and the tank was in fine shape. He did seem more agitated than he had been for a while now though, yet they couldn’t find the reason.

With so many reasons for why it could, or couldn’t be Angel, everyone was put to use on trying to figure it out. Mrs. Barlow’s was still on the island, and wouldn’t leave her room in fear of being attacked.

Maybe it was another mermaid? It wasn’t impossible, Angel could’ve had friends or family, that wanted him back.

Or maybe it was something else entirely? The thought that there was something out there, something they had yet to see, and know what it looked like and it’s abilities, it would be a lie if they said it didn’t scare them.

Even still, it was their job, and they couldn’t live without their job, and they didn’t want to waste so many years. It was in the name of science, and they couldn’t be called great scientists if they couldn’t follow by that.

Then one night, it was of the Leah’s turn to watch over Angel. She sat near the wall, on the opposite of the lab as the tank, checking to make sure that the tranquilizer was always in reach.

She decided that she was going to read up on mermaids again, having borrowed many books on them from Vic. At first, she’d been skeptical about mermaids being real, but now that she’d finally seen one herself, she wanted to know everything she could about it.

It was around midnight, and Leah was still up reading, trying her hardest to stop from dozing off. She was too far gone when the monitors in the lab turned off.

Angel noticed Leah fall asleep, and then the monitors go off. He didn’t know what they were used for, and so thought nothing of it.

He was famished, not having eaten in the longest time, and he thought, if he didn’t get food soon, he would die.

Maybe the nice looking lady could help sate his hunger?

Short chapter, I know, but it depends on how many reviews I get, for the next time I update this. It could be tomorrow, or next week from now. It’s up to you.
