The Lost Prince: 004

Thom run inside with his newly purchased book to look for the 3-stooges. He was going to collect their promise to him. Surprisingly, they were not at their usual haunt. Thom surveyed the warehouse and thought it weird that everything was clean and in order. Normally it was very cluttered.

‘Maybe they had a major cleaning session and are in their rooms resting.’ He said to himself, his face falling. If that was the case, they would be seeing each other at supper since the guys were heavy sleepers. There was still 3 hours to go. He tried not to look too disappointed as his sister and Mel entered the warehouse, keeping his face averted so as to avoid them seeing him disgruntled. He may have changed a lot and was more open but he still kept to himself when he was sad or disappointed. He hated being fussed over. Though If he had checked their faces he would have seen them trying not to smile.

“Thom, we’ll be in our rooms if you need us.” Savyn stated casually, but with an odd gleam in her hazel eyes.

“Okay…I’m going to my room now, too. The guys aren’t here so I may as well read.” Thom’s back was already turned to them and he was heading towards his room. He paused a few moments to say, “Though If you think about it, they’ve been acting strangely this week. Maybe they’re plotting something. Better watch your backs.” His voice trailed off as he left.

Sav and Mel looked at each other with eyes full of mirth, trying not to make a sound. They waited a few minutes until Thom was inside his room to release their laughter.

“You’re brother maybe oblivious to a lot of stuff but reading those three are not one of those things.” Mel jokingly said after their bout of laughter.

“He’s been in their company too much to know how they operate.” Sav laughingly retorted. Although, I’d better be more aware about the things they teach him. He might be learning things he’s not suppose to.” She added thoughtfully. “Anyway, we better go to the library as soon as possible and wait for him there.”

The two quickly grabbed their gifts from their rooms and hurried towards the library.

Thom, kicked his shoes off to the side and took off his socks, throwing them on the laundry basket. He then jumped to the bed, gathering a few pillows and arrange them strategically so as to avoid getting a crick on his neck while he read. He was on the second chapter of his book when he heard a knock on the door. After the 3rd knock, he yelled.

“Come In!”

The door did not open. Thom glanced at the doorknob but it was not locked. Puzzled, he put down the book he was reading, stood up from the bed and opened the door. Still, No one was outside as he scanned his surroundings. He was going to close the door when he noticed a medium sized envelope on the ground with his name on it. It was sealed with a drop of wax. He opened it hurriedly. He was getting excited all of a sudden.

A piece of stationary was inside. Written on the stationary in big and bold letters were the words:

Dear Thom,

Happy 15th Birthday!

If you want your gift, come to the library.

Lyle, Jake and Sven

Thom was a bit apprehensive when he read the letter, thinking it might be another prank. But he was intrigued all the same. ‘For once, it might be real.’ He silently told himself.

Thom hastily put on his flipflops and strode to the library.

Thom halted when he was face to face with the library door. He didn’t bother to knock, just turned the knob and pushed it open.

“Surprise!” a group of familiar voices split the air intermingled with the popping sound of party poppers being opened. Strips and pieces of multicolored paper as well as glitters showered him. A huge orange banner hung above their heads with a Happy Birthday heading and his name written in large black letters. A Happy Holloween in small fonts was also written as if added as an afterthought.

Thom was relieved that the letter wasn’t a prank. He was also touched that his friends were giving him a birthday party. It’s been a while since he had one.

‘They’re the best friends anyone would wish to have! ‘ He thought to himself as he beamed at them to show his appreciation.

Mel, Savyn, Nathan, Lyle, Jake and Sven stepped forward to encompass him in a big group hug, all the while greeting him with Happy Birthdays. After he thanked them profusely, he was told to take a seat at the table and eat.

The table was all set and there were five mouthwatering dishes all in all, but what caught Thom’s eye were the wrapped gifts piled at the far end of the table. His blue eyes lit up and his hands started itching to open the presents. Savyn saw him looking at the pile and told him firmly that in no uncertain terms was he to open them before he finish eating. Giving one last longing glance at the gifts, he did the only thing he could at the moment. He sat down, dumped food on his plate randomly and ate.
