I slept through the evening and whole night, undisturbed. When I finally woke up, I had a headache and was too dirty to be comfortable. Lucky I was alone.
Sticky by the incredible sex I had the day before, I rolled out of bed, and stumbled to Chadann’s bathroom. I needed a bath rather than a shower, but it would have to do for now. I couldn’t possibly pull on my clothes feeling like that.
I had no idea how that shower actually worked. I’d seen Chadann holding the bars at either side, so I reached up and did the same. It seemed to be enough. For a moment, I was covered in scented steam and then I was dry, clean, and smelling like spring.
But there was still one problem left.
Chadann had pumped quite a bit of his results in me, and I felt like farting all the time –excuse the mot.
Looking around in the clear cubicle seemed to give me the solution to that problem. I found a metal rod, small and slim, attached to a thin wire. As I grabbed it, and wondered how it functioned, it let out a puff of the scented warm steam. That would work…
All clean and refreshed, I dressed up and swallowed my breakfast. I emptied the whole bottle of water –yet another thing I didn’t understand; I could drink it all day and never go to the bathroom. I was all set and ready to go.
When I finally opened the door –I believe I was humming to myself– I stood eye to eye with Richard. I staggered in shock. “Holy shit man,” I muttered. “You scared the hell out of me…”
“What were you doing in there?” asked Richard, peeking over my shoulder. “Did you spend the night in Chadann’s bed?”
I took a step forward, so the door could slide shut. Since Richard didn’t step back, we were standing pressed up close together. “Yes,” I said, shuffling sideways and out of his way. “And I slept rather well, thank you, his bed is very comfy.” I wondered where my owner was.
Richard didn’t follow me as I walked through the corridors, looking for Chadann. He only moved his head to follow me with his eyes. He gave me the creeps, to be honest, with his cold eyes and disapproving expression. I wondered if he knew what Chadann and I had been doing.
I found my alien in the room I called his office. His gray face was lit by the flashing green symbols hovering in front of him. He looked down on me when I climbed on his lap, and briefly tensed his arms around me.
Hello, love.
By now, I understood the words itself were formed in my own head; Chadann only sent me the suggestion. I kissed his neck, and cuddled him. “Hey. What are you doing?”
His knowledge of my language didn’t go far enough to understand the words, so I got no answer. He held me with one arm as he moved his free hand over the floating symbols, and then shut the whole thing down.
I realized Chadann had been preparing himself to go away for the day again, when he put me down on the floor and stood up. I bit my lower lip. I didn’t want to stay behind with Richard and Mary… “Take me with you?” I said pleadingly, grabbing his arm and looking up at him.
Chadann stroked my hair, but ignored my plea and wanted to move away. I stopped him with a tug on his arm. “Chadann… Take me with you.” I thought the words hard as I said them slowly. This time, he understood me. But he understood me wrong, or just ignored my meaning. Before I knew it, I was standing in the garage near that funny egg, and Richard and Mary were standing next to me.
We would all go. Damn!
Richard looked quite pleased, even with Mary clapping her hands and me scowling as I looked outside.
“Seems to me we’ll meet some more aliens,” he grinned, poking me in my side. “Maybe other humans too, that would be nice… I wonder if the others are like you, or like me.”
“I wonder what the difference is, between you and me,” I snapped back at him. “We’re both abducted humans, making the most of the situation.” I had to admit it would be nice to meet others; I wondered if I was unique. I doubted it. Richard seemed to feel the same about himself.
“Oh, I don’t know,” he taunted. “I believe there’s a huge difference between you and me. I think you’re a perverted fucked up piece of shit and I’m acting quite normal…”
“Fuck off,” I mumbled, looking at the view. I wanted to kick his teeth out, of course. But we were high up in the air and I didn’t want to crash, if that was possible in this mysteriously flying thing.
Chadann ignored us all, concentrating on his flying. He took us just over the next mountain peek, where we saw another oddly shaped building hanging dangerously over a valley. It occurred to me the aliens liked heights and views. And parking at hazardous places, I saw when Chadann put his egg-shaped vehicle on a free-hanging parking space. Like it had done before, the egg vanished, we stepped away, and it was there again.
Follow.
I began to walk, not realizing the others couldn’t hear the words in their head. “Come,” he said grumpily over my shoulder. I didn’t wait for them. I had seen Richard’s suspicious expression.
The building was large from the outside, but in the inside it was more than that. It was huge. No, it was gigantic. No, it was... Forget it. I would never be able to describe how large it was. It seemed endless, with those sloping stairs along the round walls, leading up to grand balconies. The high ceiling was almost fuzzy, as if it wasn’t really there. Long strings of beady lights were hanging down from something invisible, gently moving as the tall figures walked around. The place was packed with aliens. I walked quickly, to keep up with my priest, as I didn’t want to be alone between all these strange, masked figures. I thought I was used to the aliens by then. I guess I was wrong.
“Chadann, wait up!”
My panic must have been obvious, as Chadann stopped and turned around. He touched my hair and cheek, flashing with the jewel in his hand palm. He gently pushed me aside, towards one of the walls, and petted my shoulder before he turned away.
Stay.
I didn’t even protest. I pressed my back against the wall, and carefully looked around, trying to feel more comfortable.
“So this is the church, huh?” Richard sauntered towards me, apparently completely at ease. He looked arrogantly at the aliens, as if he challenged them to speak to him.
“The church?” Why didn’t I think of that? “Yes... Probably.” Only then I noticed the symbols here and there. Most aliens were wearing rosaries, like Chadann and I. I took mine in my hand, and subtly put it behind my suit. I don’t know why I did that, exactly. I probably wanted to keep it to myself, like I wanted to keep Chadann to myself.
“Papa don’t preach,” Richard smirked, looking up. I followed his eyes. High up, on what seemed to be thin air, my priest was looking down on everybody. He looked majestic, powerful, and stunningly beautiful. I didn’t understand a thing of what I heard and felt. Richard was right; Chadann was preaching. Every alien in the room was looking at him, hand palms turned forward, their jewels pulsing softly. Chadann\'s palms were flashing brightly.
I was enchanted. I just stood there, staring up, feeling strange thoughts washing over me. I didn’t notice my surroundings. I didn’t see the humans coming in.
At first, nothing happened. Richard’s owner stepped in, interrupting the preach. I saw the lights in my owner’s hands change, and I knew he made some kind of joke. Richard’s alien raised his hands, apparently joking back, and he stepped towards his pets to greet them.
Richard was fast. He grabbed the nearest spear-like object, and stabbed the alien in his chest, where our heart would be.
Mayhem broke loose. I remember I got pulled away by coarse hands, towards the exit, while I stared at the tall figure collapsing. I can’t remember I saw blood. I didn’t know if Richard had killed him. I had no time to struggle as I got dragged outside, down the hill, and the rest is a blur.
I remember the headache, the nausea, the taste of bitter fluid in my mouth. I now know I had a concussion, and they told me I had fallen on my head as I tumbled down the hill.
When I was finally able to sit up and look around, I saw we were between high, dense trees. I was lying on soft, dark red moss, still dressed in my spotless white suit. I slapped my hand against my chest, to feel my rosary. It was still there. I felt the shape and the beads, finding comfort in the knowledge I still had Chadann with me.
Chadann…
I cried out, jerking up. Mary stared at me with shocked eyes, sitting next to me.
“Hi! How are you feeling now? Are you thirsty? Hungry maybe? I have a broth for you… It’s not poisonous. We tested it.”
“Mary?” I blinked, focusing. Only then I noticed all the other humans. Some were lying down, wounded but bandaged. Others were either helping them, or busying around. “Where are we? Where is Richard?”
“We’re in the woods,” Mary answered. “Richard is hunting with some other men. Maybe you should get rid of your suit… It’s far too light to hide from the aliens.”
“Hiding?” I tried to get the picture in my head. I couldn’t remember much, but I knew I had been dragged into the woods at the bottom of the hill, deeper and deeper, away from my priest. I remembered some of the aliens had followed us, and I knew quite a few humans were captured again. I couldn’t remember any casualties, but as I looked at the wounded people, I could imagine some had died.
“How long have we been here?” I asked, feeling a bit dizzy.
“I still have trouble with time here,” Mary shrugged apologetically. “But if I count the days and nights, I would say almost three weeks.”
As I scratched my shaggy beard, I believed her. I felt dirty, tacky, and in bad need of a bath. “I don’t want to pull off my suit,” I answered her earlier suggestion. “I don’t care if they find me,” I added. When I saw her eyes widening, I knew I shouldn’t have said that. She would tell Richard, I thought. I wasn’t safe. And I didn’t want to be there in the first place…
I tried to stand up, but I felt too weak. I had to eat something first. They had tested the food… I dreaded to ask on what, and how often they had tried before they found something edible.
“I would like to try your broth,” I said, as friendly as possible. I had to stay friends with the humans here. I couldn’t use enemies as long as I was here.
Chadann, I thought as Mary went to get me some food. I miss you…
