Make-over
Taka looked at her and noticed her face was pink. He looked her over, wondering slightly if she was okay, but then he caught sight of his reflection in the window. He was dressed sharp, almost like a super model and sitting next to him was a plain jane with bright red hair. She was quite pretty but something seemed to be missing from her look.
“Cherry, what do you say to a bit of shopping before we go to dinner?” he asked.
His voice snapped her out of her daze. This was the first time she’d ever been in a limo with a rock star. Scratch that, it was the first time she had been in a limo, period.
“No, it’s no problem.” She assured him.
She couldn’t help but wonder what it was he needed around this time of night. He was already on the phone communicating with his driver and guards about stopping; she could only guess where. Now would have been a perfect time to know a foreign language, but she skipped out on them in high school because she felt that she wouldn’t need them. Just her dumb luck. Why couldn’t she ever convince herself when her gut told her what she needed? She just sighed and waited for the news on what they were doing.
“Am I boring you?” he asked suddenly.
“No, I just…oh, I dunno. What’s the plan?” she stumbled.
“Well, not a lot. We’re just going to stop at a store and let you pick out a new outfit. I just kind of noticed how strange we look. I’m dressed like a top rate model and I figured you might get embarrassed if people stare. So, why not make you look like one too.” He smiled at her.
She was almost speechless; she couldn’t tell if she should be excited or insulted. Hell, she didn’t know why he was doing things like this for her. He didn’t even know her. But she figured if that’s what he wanted, then there’s no harm done.
“Okay, I think I’m up for it.” She stammered.
He laughed before he spoke into the receiver one last time and hung it up. Then he reached for her hand, she let him take it.
“Now I get to show you a part of my world.” He said as he patted the back of her hand.
The limo pulled in front of a small but expensive looking boutique where the driver opened the door for them. Taka stepped out first and then held his hand out to her. She slid out and stood beside him. She was almost the same height that he was, even without heels. She scanned the window displays and almost died. The clothes the mannequins had on were amazing.
“Is it to your liking?” Taka asked her sincerely, “They do complete makeovers here. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.”
He led her inside even though the sign on the door said the shop had closed almost an hour ago. They must’ve kept it open because of his call. There was a woman waiting for her as she walked in. They took her to a salon and began working on her hair. The washed, dried, trimmed and styled it. They then applied some makeup and gave her a pedicure, manicure and a quick massage. After she was finished they gave her back to T.K., he smiled brightly when he spotted her.
“You look wonderful. Now, to finish the look,” He tossed her a dress, “try it on. It will look great on you.”
She found a dressing room and did as she was told. The dress was perfect. The right size, it clung to her in the right spots and it was just slinky enough to be comfortable. And, aside from all that, the colors were great on her. She stepped out of the dressing room to let Taka have a look.
“Ok, I’m coming out.” She warned as she pulled back the curtain.
When Taka laid eyes on her he couldn’t take them off. Finally he smiled, “Let’s go to dinner.”
“Bring her shoes!” he ordered.
They sat her in a chair and strapped on a new pair of heels that sparkled in the light. The red went with her dress wonderfully, and when she stood up, she was just the same height as he was.
He wrapped his arm around her and led her toward the desk. A woman rang him up for all of his expenses.
“A total of three-thousand sixty dollars and ninety-two cents.” She told him.
He quickly handed her a credit card, signed all that he needed to, and they went back to the limo. As they got in, she turned to him.
“Three thousand dollars?” she protested.
“Yes, and it was worth every penny. You look amazing.” He said simply.
“Thank you, Taka, but I’m not sure I can accept this.” She said sternly.
“Sure you can. Besides, we’re friends now, right”
“Taka, I’m not sure where you think tonight might lead, but,” She began.
“Cherry, I don’t expect anything from you.” He assured her as he grabbed her hand, “I’m just looking for a small amount of companionship with someone on the same level as I am.”
She nodded and he smiled at her.
