Axiom had just watched Plasmet leap through her portal. He had no idea where it went. It might lead to empty space. Plasmet may had just killed herself. Or maybe it led to another planet, or a space ship or satellite that would be hospitable. He did not have enough data to calculate the risks, so he called for Bruiser and Chaste to stand down. No sense in risking their lives by chasing after her. No sooner had he given the order, however, did Plasmet come flying out her own portal backward, a much smaller form having crashed into her.

Plasmet growled as her escape tunnel began to disappear. She struck out at the thing that had crashed into her. It looked like a small humanoid creature with metallic skin. Whatever it was reacted quickly, its arm came up and some sort of black goo formed a shield to block the blow. Plasmet when for her gun and got a shot off, right into the stomach of the humanoid. Chatse could not make out what happened after that, but Bruiser’s keen eyes saw the bullet hit and than just fall off, it’s kinetic energy completely absorbed.

“Shit,” she cursed, softly, “I hope that thing is peaceful.”

The newcomer quickly disabled Plasmet and had her sprawled on the ground and bound in whatever that black goo was. Axiom signaled for his two partners to follow him, and then took off to move closer to the scene.

Kiliah had never been more confused. First she bolted through this weird vortex of green swirls, then she crashed into this towering mountain of a woman with green skin and more hair on her head than she had ever seen. When she tried to apologize the alien attacked her. Before she could react to that, Tokit was defending her. Then she found herself sitting on the bigger woman’s back, surrounded by odd creatures who were speaking to her in an unknown language.

<Give me a minute and I’ll translate.> Tokit told her.

     <How will you do that?>

<This one I am touching knows what they are saying. I just have to listen through her ears. But her thoughts are... muddy. And tainted with rage.>

Kiliah waved her hands to get the creatures to slow down. The expressionless one with the plasticy skin and wiry hair said something to the two others. They went quite. Then he started to speak again.

<He is asking you who you are. He says his name is Axiom.>

<Axiom, how weird. How do I answer him?>

Tokit shifted so a bit of it settled in her hand. <Reach out to him with this hand. Perhaps he will take it. Then I can translate for you both.>

Kiliah did as advised. Axiom looked at her hand for only a moment before grabbing a hold of it. “My name is Kiliah.” She felt ridiculous. The other creatures obviously had no idea what she was saying, but Tokit must have done his job because Axiom said something to them that included her name.

The rest of the conversation went on in this manner. Even after some new creatures dressed in blue came out and took the green woman. Kiliah learned that the women who attacked her was a criminal and she had inadvertently stopped her. She learned about the WDF and who the other creatures were. She told them briefly about her home planet and why she had leapt through the mysterious portal. They seemed sympathetic. Somewhere along the line the other woman, who was even bigger than the green one, made a call to someone. She explained it was too her boss, who would be quite interested in what had happened. Kiliah swallowed nervously.

This boss showed up in a flying craft they called a helicopter. It was far noisier than any vehicle Kiliah had ever heard in her life. It also whipped up a fierce wind. Kiliah could not figure why someone would pilot such a device. Then a man stepped out to greet them.

He was similar in form to the other humans. Bigger than the thin, white one, but smaller than the musclebound woman. He had olive-y skin and black hair pulled back in a pony tail. His eyes were dark and sensuous. Another man of similar statue followed him. His expression was a careful blank, his blond hair immaculately combed back, his crystal blue eyes hidden behind his glasses. At least, that is what Kiliah was told that weird thing on his nose was. She would have to ask what it was for later.

Axiom faced his creator, Argus Zephirus. He was one of the richer men in America, part of that annoying top five percent that had everything. Sure he was financing an up-and-coming super-hero team, as was the trend, but Axiom knew his real motives. Still, the ends might justify the reasons, as it were. In any case, Zephirus’s little games should not cause too much harm

“Axiom,” he greeted his pet robot, “I see you were successful in capturing Plasmet. I do not, however, recognize your new friends.”

Axiom quickly related the situation to Zephirus from the beginning, including the confused explanation by Kiliah as to her presence and how Chaste had helped them. When he was done his boss turned to Kiliah and gave her a warm smile.

“Well,” he said, “We can hardly let a poor, confused alien wander earth all on her lonesome, can we.” He turned back to Axiom, “Go ahead and let her stay at the satellite, at least until she gets her bearings. She can work for us, if she wants, and if anyone can educate her on life on earth I am sure you can.”

With that, the interview was over. No room for argument or discussion, Zephirus and his assistant disappeared back on the helicopter, leaving the team to get back home on their own. Luckily there was little time to wait before the satellite had recharged itself enough to bring them back. Axiom bade farewell to Chaste, apologizing for Zephirus’ rude dismissal of the petite hero’s considerable contributions.

Kiliah agreed to stay with the WDF. She liked feeling needed, and so far she really like this new planet. She was making quick progress with English, the language her new friends talked to each other in, and Bruiser was teaching her another language called German. Axiom was quickly picking up her own language and it was all thanks to Tokit.

Satisfied with another day of her new life, Kiliah crawled into bed. Sighing, she stretched out luxuriously. She was naked except for Tokit wrapped around her snugly. It stretched out a tendril to snuggle against her neck. She smiled and giggled and rolled on her stomach before kissing Tokit soundly. Life was good.
