Chapter Five
Kara laid in her bed staring at the ceiling fan as it circled hypnotically above her. The deafening silence was pushing down on her seemingly suffocating her in the darkness. She hated it, she hated all of it. The loneliness was taunting her as she laid in her white long sleeved button up shirt and pink cotton panties. Her sheets were thrown haphazardly over her legs. She had stared at the television until eleven thirty but it had failed to blare away the loneliness that was growing in her mind. She wanted Daniel back at the apartment; she wanted him there with her to chase away her demons.
The sound of the front door opening and closing caused Kara to sit bolt up in her bed. She looked hastily to her digital clock on her bedside table to find that it was twelve thirty. He was home early. She listened as he walked past her door and as soft light shown on the gray carpet as he turned on the bathroom light. Five creeping minutes passed as Kara sank into her mattress again and listened to the sounds of turning nozzles and running water. Daniel was starting a shower. The close and breathy wha..wha..wha.. sound of the ceiling fan and the distant fall of water was enough to relax Kara for the first time since Daniel left.
Although she was relaxed and her breathing slow and rythmatic as she laid on her stomach clutching her pillows her heart was beating rapidly. She felt she would burst if she didn’t see Daniel, anything to dispel the loneliness writhing in her chest. The sound of Daniel turning off the shower caused Kara to sit up again and glance at her clock again, twelve forty-five. She watched the base of her door as the bathroom light spilled across the floor again and the abrupt shut off, followed by brief footsteps and the soft closing of Daniels bedroom door.
Kara’s heart jumped into her throat as she sat cross-legged on the edge of her bed. She glanced nervously at her clock again, twelve fifty. She stood and moved towards her door, standing inches away from it. Her right hand rested lightly on the knob as her left pressed against its flat surface. She couldn’t just walk into his room and climb into bed with him, but she couldn’t stand to be alone another minute. The turmoil continued in her chest as her body moved on it’s own accord.
Her bare feet moved softly as she quietly clicked her door open and moved down the hall. A second wave of doubt paused her self-moving body as she rested her forehead against his door. The sound of her heart fluttering in her chest could be heard in her ears as she listened for any sound inside. Her body tensed, as she found none. She couldn’t help herself. Nervously, she quietly tapped the door with her index finger, resting her hand lightly on the knob again.
In his dark room Daniel stirred as propped himself up on his elbows to listen for the soft tapping he thought he had heard only moments ago. His dark eyes stared at the base of his door, catching small movements of a possible presence.
“Kara?”
His door clicked open slowly as she slipped in nervously. Daniel softened at the sight of her. She stood near his doorway, her fingers working nervously in front of her as she studied the floor, slowly trying to shrink in on herself. The shirt she wore was a mans shirt and had slipped off her right shoulder slightly as the pink of her panties showed at the part of the bottom of the shirt. He had only to look at her to know something was wrong.
Kara was sure Daniel could hear her heart beat as much as she could as it tried to burst out of her chest. She was so scared and nervous but she wasn’t sure why. She studied his face, finding so much concern for her from her hero.
“I…”
Her voice hitched as tears stung her eyes.
“I…”
Her soft voice shook this time as her tears spilled freely down her cheeks.
“Come here.”
Kara melted at his words, obeying them and succumbing to her childish fears. She climbed into his bed and wrapped her arms around his neck as he pulled her to him. Her body melded to his as she sobbed into his shoulder.
Daniel held her silently until her sobs well to whimpers and she had relaxed enough to sleep gently against his bare chest. He smoothed her hair lightly, moving delicate strands from her face. He knew she was hurting, she tried to hide it from him all afternoon. But every time he walked away, every time her gaze fell from him her pain had shown through her surface. A sharp sting of guilt stabbed him; he had left her there alone when she needed him there. Kara shifted against him in her sleep, giving Daniel the opportunity to pull her closer. It wasn’t until then that he realized he was only wearing boxers, then a second notion hit him, she was wearing little more. Her scent filled his nose as a familiar sensation began to build in his member. Daniel rested his head against his pillow and sighed, it was going to be a long night.
A/N: so concludes my favorite chapter, it's short but full of meaning for Kara's inner turmoil and just barely the fleeting glance of Danny's. >.O another chapter will be up tomorrow so stay tuned for further adventures! xoxox
