---------------------------------------------------

‘What a slow week,’ she thought to her self. Serenity had fallen back into her habit of staying in her room all the time. She had no idea of what day it was or even what time it was. She just knew that it was morning. Serenity grunted and tossed a pillow at the window. The shades fell down in a trained manner.

“Gahh...”

She slipped out the bed and stretched. Her white hair was in a mess of curls and was in a bun. A purple scrunchie held it in place, just barely. Serenity moaned and stretched again. This time her hand came up to pull the hairpiece away and let her hair fall. It fell just past the shoulders and bounced back up in light curls. This was no perm. Her hair had always been naturally curly.

Her green eyes only accented the hair. Serenity’s pale skin was as white as it could be. She turned to look at herself in the full-length mirror that was in her room and ran a hand down her curves. She was slender. Her chest wasn’t huge but she had something there. Her legs were short to accommodate her shorter stature. She probably only stood five feet or so, maybe a little less.

“Think I’m getting fat...”

Serenity’s hand lifted the silky nightshirt to reveal her stomach. It was toned and flat. It was very much the opposite of fat. She looked good, really. Some might even consider her cute, despite the lack of buxom breasts and a well-rounded bottom. Her hand went to the tie on her night pants and let them loose. The material fell down to her ankles. A pair of purple panties covered her petite hips.

“No butt...”

She grunted. Serenity ran a hand over the curves of her bottom. Her finger traced delicately over them to the straps of her panties. She often looked at herself. She wanted to know all her imperfections.

“Well, maybe a little butt...”

Serenity chuckled and pushed the panties down. She stepped away from the gathered material at her ankles and kicked both night pants and panties away to examine her better. Soon, her hands slid up from her thighs to over her stomach. Serenity made a face at herself and shook her head.

“No breasts either…Rather, poor excuses for breasts, anyways.”

Again, her hands slid up and under the silk of her nightshirt to push it up and over her head. She was now looking at herself nude in the mirror. Serenity did a small turn and held her hair up in her right hand. Her back curved and she poked her bottom out some.

“Lords! And to think I am a size zero? Maybe, I need to lose some weight.”

“No!” Her mother walked in. “You’re just fine as you are. “ She eeped seeing her daughter with nothing on and quickly turned to let her daughter cover herself up.

“Mother!! Ever hear of knocking!” Serenity quickly pulled her clothes on. “What are you doing in here this early, anyway?”

“…er, well, it’s your birthday, hun!” She peeked around to see if she was dressed. Sarai chuckled and held out a package for her. “I got this for you.”

“My...birthday?” Serenity gasped. “Has it been a week, already?”

She absently grabbed the package and started to tear it open. Inside, she found a new models’ paint-set for figurines. Serenity smiled and looked up at her mother. She may not have liked Serenity spending all her time doing this but she didn’t try and force her to stop, either.

“Hope you like them and oh...you have a package downstairs...Its not an excuse to get you to leave the room, its just really big and I can’t carry it up by my self...and its not from me. It was delivered this morning.”

“Huh?” Serenity blinked and set the package down. “Does it say who its from?”

“Its your package, dear. I am not going to go through your stuff. There is an envelope on it, though.” Sarai smiled.

“Oh well! I guess I had better go see what it is and who its from.” Serenity smiled. “Are you sure its not from you and this is just a trick or something?”

“Hun, I love you. But I don’t have the money to wrap something in silk like this box is. It’s real silk too...” Sarai placed her hands on her hips. “So, go on, dear. Go open it.” She was just as anxious to see what was in the package as Serenity was.

“I’m going!”

Both Serenity and Sarai went downstairs. Serenity gasped at the size of the large, silk-wrapped box in the living room. It was at least as tall as she was and wide. Sarai noted her surprised look and smiled. At least, something good might happen on her daughter’s birthday. She was smiling already!

“I know. I had gasped just like you did.”

“Its huge. Oh my gosh!” Serenity was speechless. “Are you sure you didn’t get this for me, mom? Who else in town would do something so lavish...for me?”

“I swear I didn’t. The card’s right there.” She pointed to the card that was gracefully tied onto a piece of dark purple silk ribbon. The silk around the package itself was silver. “It’s wrapped beautifully, though...don’t you think?”

Serenity didn’t even stop to think of the color coincidence. She pulled the card off and brushed her finger over the envelope’s edges. Gently, she pulled the paper away from the purple wax seal. The seal had a large S and a smaller d on it. It was written in calligraphy. Serenity bit her lip and pulled out the paper. It was an invitation.

-----------------------------------------------------

‘On this day, January 17, You, Serenity Renewal, and your mother are cordially invited to attend a birthday ball in your honor. Please enjoy the enclosed gifts and wear them to the celebration when the coach comes for you and your mother tonight at six in the evening. I look forward to the first dance with the birthday princess.’

Yours always,

S. D

P. S: I hope you have the happiest of birthdays, my sweet.

-----------------------------------------------------

“I...” It just didn’t click whom this might be from. “I don’t know...but we...are invited to a birthday ball in…my…honor.” Serenity looked up at her mother. She was a bit wide eyed with surprise.

“What?”

Her mother quickly stepped over to read the card. She, too, had the same surprised look that Serenity held.

“I guess I should open it?”

“Probably...” Her mother responded.

Serenity handed the card to her mother and went to work on the large package. She carefully untied the purple ribbons and pulled the silk cloth away to reveal a full-length cherry wood wardrobe.

“Wow...”

Serenity pondered, over and over, at who could have done this! Who in the world would send her this expensive of a gift?

“You said it, hun...open it.” Sarai motioned to the purple ribbon that tied the knobs together. “But, be careful.”

“I…”

Serenity pulled the ribbons loose and the doors open. Before her, were two very lavish and expensive ball gowns. The tag on one had her mother’s name on it and the tag on the other had her name on it. They were dance cards. Serenity looked over the gown of silver and purple. It was a perfect blend of silver with purple undertones. It could almost be mistaken as a two-tone color. It looked silver in this light and purple if you looked at it another way. Her mother’s gown was light blue and white. It matched the tones of her blonde hair and eyes perfectly.

“Serenity...” Sarai gasped, loudly. Her hand covered her mouth. “They are beautiful. Look! There are even shoes and jewelry accessories to go with them.”

Serenity touched a necklace and the small crown. The crown was adorned in white gold and traced up into a gentle curve up and over. Smaller points were at each side of the dark purple stone that was set in the center. The necklace was a white gold chain and had the same matching setting with the similar colored purple stone. It was small and tastefully designed. Her mother had a necklace with a blue stone and was white gold.

“Silvan.”

Serenity whispered. She couldn’t help it. Suddenly, it just hit her. Silvan sent it! He wasn’t real, though, was he? No, this could not be from him. Her imagination was not that powerful.

“What? Who is sylvan, honey?”

Sarai grunted and suddenly oophd as Serenity fell back. She had feinted dead away into her arms. It was just a little much to take in, all at once, for the girl. This, for sure, had been one dandy of a birthday surprise for the eighteen year old and her mother. And yet, there were still more surprises to come for neither knew who had sent the gifts.
