Chapter 5
The Prophesy
I made it down the stairs and to through the front doors. But they opened to nothing…
It was only black…
I hadn’t left at all…
I was still stuck in my mind!
Horrible laughter filled my being and I fell to the ground, helpless.
“You think you can escape me sister?! You think this is all a game?!! Well think again!!!” Lightning flashed, blinding me, and thunder rolled from unseen clouds woven of pure and awful magic.
A sob escaped me and tears sprung to my eyes. I thought I escaped this nightmare, and now, I was right back where I started. Back in the hands of my brother.
I tried to stand but I was too afraid. I was caught in a whirlwind of emotion unable to get free. I was filled with hatred for what I had become, for what he was doing to me, for no one letting me just DIE!
I screamed in rage and stood. This was my mind, and I would take it back!
I stood up with fervor and walked towards my brother with a purpose. I would fight this. He had no right to do this to me! He would learn.
He just laughed as I walked towards him.
I threw my hands out in front of me, not exactly knowing why, and pure magical energy flew from my fingertips striking him in the chest.
The look on his face was of pure disbelief. Again I threw out my hands and the energy stuck him once more. I could win this I thought to myself. I was starting to scare him.
“Don’t think you can win this Maya!” He sneered and cast his spell upon me. This time, however, I was ready for it. I set myself against his influence and fought his control desperately. I would not let him win!
*Clouds heavy with rain pass into view, a feeling of foreboding presses against my very soul, and I shed tears of crimson. My heart has been shattered like crystal, and a thousand glittering pieces fall away into the blackness of time
Why did these words keep popping into my head?! It didn’t make any sense!*
And yet…
I didn’t have time to think about it then!
I gathered what was left of my courage and pressed on. I knew if I didn’t end this now, He would move on and hurt some other poor girl. He was too powerful!
Lightning struck the ground in front of me and the force of the explosion threw me back.
“Stop trying to hurt me sister! You are only delaying the inevitable!” His words echoed across the vastness of my mind and reverberated in the darkness.
“You have no power over me anymore Daemon! Get out of my mind before I destroy you!” I was furious and I could finally express my emotions. No more trying to hide from my pain! I would let that pain fuel my fight against the man who had destroyed my innocence. Who had no right to use my own mind against me!
*Winter passes into winter, and life far removed from light remains buried under snow stained with crimson tears. Bleeding fingers claw at the earth searching for their lost soul.*
Those words… They seemed to mean something… But I couldn’t figure it out.
It was no longer dark, but a bright light began filling the space where I knelt. It was sunlight. I was suddenly thrust back to that fateful day three years ago.
\'Please, God, not again!\' I thought to myself.
Summer… My parents… Tears once again streamed down my face.
Before I knew it, snow began falling to the ground and the earth turned the black and white of winter. The tears running down my face fell and stained the snow crimson. This couldn’t be happening. The words I had written were slowly coming to pass, but they still made no since!
Then it occurred to me.
*Life\'s blood spills upon soil damp with tears. Each drop joins in the dance of life. For without death, there cannot be life. And without pain, life has no meaning. Hardships of life are mere wrinkles in the face of time*
…I had to die…
I had hurt him last time he was in my mind. If I died with him still here… He would die too! In my dieing, I would be allowing others to live. My brother wouldn’t be able to hurt anyone else.
I saw my younger self playing in the snow, my mother and father talking on the picnic blanket. Then I saw him. My brother walked out of the bushes, wand raised, ready to cast the spell that would kill my parents. I ran forward and saw my mother push the other me out of the way of the spell. That’s when I made my move.
I surged ahead and took the full force of the spell instead of my mother. The words, finally making sense after all these years, raced through my head.
*Clouds heavy with rain pass into view, a feeling of foreboding presses against my very soul, and I shed tears of crimson. My heart has been shattered like crystal, and a thousand glittering pieces fall away into the blackness of time
Living a life that is no longer my own, a wash out of color traded for monotony. Light flashes before my eyes and the memories have no meaning to me. Keeper of time, taker of life, I curse thee

A searing pain cut through me like a knife and I fell to the ground, seemingly lifeless. But I heard his cry of pain and terror as the world he had created in my head slowly crumbled around him.

I awoke with a start. Sunlight streamed through my window. The door creaked open and a young nurse entered the room.
“You gave us quite a scare last night, sweetie.” She said in a quiet voice. The puzzled look on my face must have told her I diddn’t understand because she went on to explain what she meant.
“You nearly died, hun. You spiked a fever in the middle of the night and cried during some nightmare you were having.”
It had all been a dream?
“Oh, and sweetie… I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but… I’m afraid your brother died last night…” She was so sincere…
All I could do was laugh…
I had done it!
I had finally beaten my brother!!!
It was over!
