Jason was very excited about the project. A week ago, Luc Besson had called David and told him that he would have a role for Jason in his new movie. After Five years without directing, the french director had finally decided to come back to what he did best.
Everything was set. The studio, Universal pictures were the one sponsoring the project. With the last stupid movies they produced, it was a good choice from Besson, who was then able to have all he wanted. The last thing that was going to be discussed was his salary. Ok, so he wasn’t a huge star. Yet. But he recognized a good movie from any other.

That was why, he and David had been waiting for Besson and the script writer of the movie to discuss about the movie and see if the choice of Jason for the leading role was pleasing the script writer. They were waiting at one of the best restaurant to take their lunch with the writer and the director.

Jason didn’t really understand why a great director, such as Luc Besson bothered with the opinion of a simple writer. Then again, when he read the script he was dumb struck by the intelligence, the flow and the logic of all the scenes; As it was, it was ready to shoot. There was nothing to cut out. Well at least that was his opinion.

He wondered who the script writer was. David had told him that all he knew was that it was a woman.

“Maybe she’s his new muse!” David had said yesterday. Afterall, it was true. Remember Mila Jovovich.
He had made the girl one of the executive producer of the movie! That was quite unusual.

Right now, Luc and his protégée were running late. Really late. Jason was getting impatient and he was even starting to think that maybe the french genius had changed his mind and choose one of his compatriots. You never know with those french (A/N:I love France!).
David was slightly irritated about the situation, claiming that it was going to change all their planing of the day.

Luc finally arrived, alone 45 minutes later.

“I’m sorry. We got a problem with the baby,” the french guy declared with his accent.

“A baby?” inquired David. “I didn’t knew you had a baby recently. Congratulations!”

The director laughed. “No. Not me. The writer’s baby. It turned out that the baby sitter was late, and not trust worthy, so after much yelling and reproaches, she decided that she wouldn’t leave Samuel with that woman. By that time we were already late. We’re really sorry.”

“It’’s okay,” started Jason. “And where is the genius who is responsible of your come back?”

“In the toilets. With Samuel, changing his diapers. He doesn’t like cars very much. We should order now. You must be hungry.”

§§§§
Ten minutes later, Maelis joined the three men with Samuel in her arms.

“I’m sorry, I...”

She stopped dead in her tracks when she recognized the man’s face. Jason Ashcroft.

“Mae...” he whispered.

Jason stood up and looked questioningly at his former lover.

“Oh, Maelis!” exclaimed Luc. “Meet Jason and his agent, David Shaffer. Everyone, this is my peronnal genius Maelis Torrez.”

“Hum...Nice to meet you;” she uttered.

“Is everything ok with the baby?” Luc asked as she dazzed off a bit.

“Er...yeah, but they don’t have chairs for him. Could you take him for a minute, I need to warm up his food?”

“Sure.”

“I’ll be back in a second. Again I’m sorry we’re late.”

§§§§
She left, her heart pounding really fast. Luc Besson had choose Jason. Of all people, he had choose Jason! If she was a bit rational, she would admit that he was the perfect fit for that role. But she wasn’t rational when it came to that guy. As a proof : their last encounter consisted in two days of non-stop sex.
She didn’t trust herself in frfont of him.

‘Let’s face it. He is here for the chance of his life. Just like you. Get over it and stop drooling over the guy. You have a son to take care of and soon, a lot of work.’

She reached the kitchen of the restaurant and asked someone to warm up the food of Samuel. Before she went back to their table, she took a few deep breaths and headed back.

§§§§
“Come here Samuel,” she said to the little boy who was smiling to Luc. She took Samuel back in her arms and proceeded to his feeding.

“Isn’t he the cuttest little boy you ever saw?” inquired Luc to the other peoples of the table.

“I guess he is,” said David who was never fond of kids.

“You never told me you already met Jason, Mae?” said the director.

“What...um...well...you know, it wasn’t like meeting meeting, it was just you know peoples bumping into each other..” she admitted uneasily.

“So do you think he would do?” continued Luc.

“What?”

“For the role chérie!”

“Oh, yeah, of course. Good choice,” she utter clumsily.

“You don’t seem alright. Is everything ok?” inquired her partner.

“Yeah, yeah. Everything’s ok.”

§§§§
Jason couldn’t believe it. The writer of the best script he ever read was Maelis. It was just like, impossible. What were the chance of that to happen? One in a million?

He felt awkward around her. Mostly because of the situation. He knew he had acted like a jerk when he left without so much as a good bye. But anyway, what was he supposed to say? So here, he was, listening to the conversation between her and the french director. He had told Luc that he had already met Mae previously. Not telling him in what circumstances of course. But he had told the director they had met.
Apparently, he took her opinions very seriously. When Luc Besson asked her the dreaded question about him, he knew that she had his life in the palm of her hands. He was waiting to be crushed, but no, she just said, after what seemed to him and eternity that she was ok with having him as the leading role.

§§§§
That night, Jason didn’t sleep very well. He would have liked to have the opportunity to apologize. Yet apologize about what? She didn’t seem to mind. Surprised, but not angry. It seemed a bit weird to him. Usually the girls went after him for those kind of behaviour. Yet, Mae just merely shrugged off the fact that they had met.
She was the first girl that he regretted to leave the way he did. The first and the only one so far.

§§§§
Some blocks away, Mae was feeling very guilty for not telling Jason about Samuel. After all, Samuel had the right to have a father. But she was afraid of his reaction. And what would he think of her, would he accept Samuel. How was he going to react? Would he tell her that she’s a liar? Would they fight for custody? A lot of questions were running through her mind as she watched her son finally fall asleep in his crib.

She had come to a decision. Samuel had to be happy and she wasn’t sure that Jason would make him happy. So the rule now, was to tell nobody about Sam’s Father.

She would just have to go on with life and act like nothing happened. This movie, this job was the chance of her life and she wasn’t about let it slip away, and messing it up!
