Invisible Barriers

Short. This was somehow difficult. Rel is conflicted. Having an emotional character is bad for writing darn it.

This one is good. Won't be long before Muan finds a site with a dictionary thing that will sound out the words. He'll learn to translate pretty quick. Yay. Though he's still a being of few words but understanding verbally would be very good for the relationship.

Read, Review and Enjoy.

“Ish not to open door?”

Rel turned away from the bathroom and shot Hohi as the Sidhe spoke. He moved past the tall male and to the kitchen area. He boiled water for tea as Hohi wandered through the plants along the windows.

Hohi moved to the kitchen and deposited a teabag into Rel’s mug before placing a single leaf in his own. Rel poured water into the mugs and set the kettle to the side with a thump. Rel sniffed his mug and looked at Hohi, wanting an answer.

“Stuff,” Hohi muttered with a growl.

Rel moved to the kitchen table and sat. He watched his tea grow darker over the course of several minutes. Hohi sat across from him, sipping his own tea. It wasn’t long before Muan re-immerged from the bathroom.

The Sidhe sat beside Rel and set the laptop so that both of them could see it. Muan leaned over to see the screen for a long moment before shifting his chair, and himself, closer to Rel. So close that their shoulders nearly touched. Rel glanced at the screen and back to his tea.

Muan had figured out how to use the internet and had found the search engine as well as, somehow, a proper answering system. Real answers from real professionals, not one of those, free edit things. But the entire thing was written in large words, complex words with even more complex meanings.

Rel sipped his tea and gave in to explaining to Muan what words meant. Through two cups of tea, Rel explained to Muan what this, that or the other word meant and tried to explain the context when necessary. Rel scrolled down when they reached the bottom of the page. At some point Muan’s hand ended up sitting beside the touchpad of the laptop. Each time Rel scrolled the page down, their hands grazed.

When Rel noticed this, realised that Muan had done it on purpose, heat began to bloom in his stomach. It wasn’t. Well. No.

Rel pushed down the emotion and downed the last of his tea as an excuse to pause, to give himself a moment to control. That control shattered when Muan’s other hand slipped over Rel’s leg, grazing up the side with his nails. Rel let out a breath, shuddering at the feeling that prickled through his leg.

Hohi growled loudly. Muan shifted away from Rel. Muan sighed and pointed to a word, continuing on as if it had never happened. As if they hadn’t touched, hadn’t been growled at by Hohi.

The male, sitting across the table, poured tea for each of them and smiled sweetly at Rel. Sweetly. Like… the Sidhe couldn’t tear out his insides with a flick of his wrist. Like Hohi hadn’t had a problem with them touching.

Though… Muan hadn’t attempted to touch Rel at any other time. Besides the peck to the forehead a few hours before and that had been more out of comfort, a subconscious sort of reaction to someone else’s pain. A reaction to a peer being in pain, like how people will help other people who are in danger or have been physically harmed.

This was different, this was Muan very slowly moving towards him, very slowly coming to be beside him, around him, near him. Muan was pushing the limits of their relationship, testing the boundaries that didn’t exist. The Sidhe had waited for Hohi to be there before pushing…

Sidhe courtship. That’s what it was, Sidhe courtship. The relationship couldn’t move any further without a witness there, without someone watching over the steps to ensure it was done properly. Even though they were alone, even though Muan didn’t try to touch him when they were alone. Even though Muan’s boundaries would not change just because there was someone else in the room.

Rel sipped his newly filled mug and considered this information. They were both consenting adults, they were of an age and could make decisions on their own, so why did they have to be monitored at all times? What if he wanted to reach over and kiss Muan? What then?

Except he didn’t. Wanting to kiss Muan was ridiculous. Muan was damaged, he had no concept of where he was or what was going on or what would happen in the future. There was a language barrier.

But barring all that…

Rel would totally kiss Muan.

Which was only slightly more confusing than Muan looked at him, grinning like an imp as he said, “Mw’n kess Lel too.”
