Humiliation

Chapter 46 – Humiliation

“My teeth hurt,” Yuki complained during lunch, her, Fuji, and Shai all sitting near the window catching the little bit of golden sun that peaked through the clouds. “I think I’m getting a cavity.” She shoved her finger in her mouth as if she were feeling around for evidence of said cavity.

Fuji laughed. “Now there’s a topic you don’t find every day,” she said. “If we were a book you would be the most boring character.”

“No way!” Yuki argued with a laugh. “I would be the pretty lead of the story who is dating the ex-lead singer of a band.”

“How did Valentine’s Day go with him?” Fuji asked, not at all interested but trying her hardest to seem like she cared.

“Actually, we did not get to spend it with one another,” Yuki sighed, wiping her finger off on her napkin. “I only had time enough to give him chocolate, my parents were feeling sad and wanted to spend time with their last remaining child. I feel like Nakago and Kaori are dead the way they talk about them.”

“It has to be hard,” Shai said quietly. “They are learning the ugliest things about their children, things they never would have dreamed of.”

Yuki raised her eyebrow at Shai and looked down at her bulging stomach that was hidden by Kaori’s old uniform, the emblem ripped off and the freshman one sloppily sewed back on. “What are you going to do if your kids turn out that way?”

“It’s why I am only going to have one,” Shai said with a sniff. “Look how well Fuji and I turned out, and we were the only child in our family. Well, for the first fifteen years of life.”

“Wow,” Yuki said, placing a hand over her heart as if stricken. “That kind of sort of almost hurt. I can not believe it just came out of your mouth.”

Shai gave a small laugh. She then turned to Fuji with a great smile. “What did you and Amatsu do for Valentine’s day, slash, your birthday.”

“We did it sixteen times,” Fuji said blandly. Both girls blanched and Fuji laughed. “I’m kidding,” she pointed out. “He took me to this very fancy restaurant and then we took a walk, freezing the whole while we did it, then we went separate ways.”

“No birthday sex?” Yuki asked curiously.

Fuji shook her head almost solemnly. “No,” she said quietly. “I’m still a bit paranoid. The two times are it for me.”

Shinwa popped his head into the classroom and waved at the girls sitting at their desks. Yuki and Shai waved back while Fuji made a point to gaze out the window. “Hey girls,” he called. “Can I talk to you a second?”

Yuki and Shai began to stand up, but Shinwa shook his head. “Actually,” he said, “I want to talk to Miss Chenbaro.”

He was becoming more and more formal each time he met her. Fuji stood and walked out into the hallway with him without saying a word. Shai and Yuki felt the tension that wrapped around the entire room once they were gone. Everyone wanted to see what the two most gorgeous people in the school were talking about.

Yuki and Shai only caught the end of the conversation. “Are you making up lies to get me on your side?” Fuji snarled at him.

“No,” snapped Shinwa, his own anger uncontained now that his wounds had healed and male pride had taken over, if only for a few minutes. “I am telling you this because you are the strongest of the three, and you should be protecting her.

“Amatsu does not even hate me as much as you do,” Shinwa snapped the last part.

Fuji straightened her back, trying her best to look the cold calculating woman her mother had made her out to be, but without the glasses and ponytail, and with just her natural beauty shining through, she looked more like a beautiful doe caught in the headlights. “You are not dating one of Amatsu’s friends, you are showing interest in my best friend. Her interests come before anyone else.”

Shinwa cleared his throat and jerked his head towards the doorway. Fuji turned around to see Yuki and Shai both staring out the door, several other students gathering around them to watch the interaction. Fuji snarled and Shinwa nearly laughed at her very less than demure reaction.

“This is a private conversation,” snapped Fuji to the crowd behind her.

The crowd slowly dispersed, though Fuji and Shinwa both knew the ears could still hear them.

“Excuse me,” Fuji snapped. Instead of turning back into the classroom she began walking down the hall, turning the corner to the junior section of the school. Shinwa, suddenly wary of Fuji’s anger, turned to run after her.

It took little time for Yuki and Shai to sneak out and follow very closely behind.

Fuji slammed into class 2-B’s classroom and came face to face with a whole lot of people she had never seen before. The effect of the sliding door suddenly slamming into the wall by the strength of one lonely girl brought everyone’s attention to the doorway, including Danko’s.

Fuji stepped into the classroom, without being invited, and very aware of the many dirty looks she was receiving. “Is it true?” she snapped at Danko, laying her hands flat on the desk. “Tell me it isn’t and I will consider you to have some soul left in you, tell me it is and I will know what a lowlife scum you have become.”

“That isn’t the pregnant one, is it?” came a hoarse whisper behind Fuji. Her back straightened while Danko gave a wide impressionable smile.

“No, I think it’s that one,” another junior laughed, then pointed to the doorway where Yuki, Shai, and Shinwa had congregated to watch the action. Shai’s face fell and her body started to grow weak. It took Yuki and Shinwa to drag her from the door as the entire classroom laughed, including Danko.

“How could you do that?” Fuji asked, her anger verging on rage.

“What?” Danko asked, crossing her arms against her very flat chest. “You mean tell the world the truth that your half-sister was sleeping with your mother’s fiancé and is now carrying his child? Old news.”

Neither girl saw it coming. Fuji’s fist struck out and slammed into Danko’s jaw hard enough to throw the girl tumbling from her chair. Fuji was crawling over the desk when someone grabbed her from behind, pulling her away from Danko. Fuji did not even stop to see who it was. She was kicking and yelling at Danko, in the process kicking the person who held her. “How dare you?” she cried out, spitting at Danko’s feet. “You scum, your whore, you detestation of life. Just because you are bitter that your dike lover isn’t coming back for you don’t take it out on innocent people.”

Danko stood, ready to attack Fuji, but Fuji’s captor swirled her around and the person holding her took the hit to the back. Danko, stunned, stepped away. Fuji was released and quickly stepped away from the person who had held her, protecting her from the attack, and from herself. She stared unbelievingly at Mr. Tennison, who had turned to glare at Danko.

“You should not spread such heinous rumors,” Mr. Tennison said in a very calm voice to Danko. “There are many things Fuji in turn could spread about you, and at least her words would not be lies. Ever heard of the power of three, what you do comes back to you in threes? Just like it takes three good deeds to redeem one sin.” The last part was said to Fuji, almost like he knew she had been blaming Shinwa and hating him for something he had not meant to do. She was taken aback and took a step away from him, her head suddenly crammed with anger and confusion like she was not used to feeling.

“What the Hell is going on here?” cried Mrs. Aoi, her face red with anger. “What are you doing in my classroom Mr. Tennison, and with a freshman?”

“I apologize, Mrs. Aoi,” Mr. Tennison bowed his head, giving Mrs. Aoi an apologetic look. “Your student was spreading lies, and when Fuji confronted her about it, the lies suddenly became worse.”

“I do not care what is going on, but I expect these two girls to meet in the principal’s office, right now!” Mrs. Aoi’s anger was thick, and all tension and laughter that had been heard earlier had been rolled away by this anger.

Mr. Tennison waited while Fuji and Danko composed themselves and he walked them out of the classroom. At the doorway he winked at Shai, Yuki, and Shinwa, then kept walking. Fuji turned her head to look back at her friend’s, a sad expression on her face, but instead she caught the eyes of Shinwa. She mouthed, “Gomen ne,” and walked away. I’m sorry.
