My Valentine - Part 1

A/N: Kaori mentions it shortly, and Shai actually did it. In Japan men do not get the girl\'s ANYTHING for Valentine\'s Day. Valentine\'s Day for them is about the girls buying the men chocolate, or making them chocolate. There is even two different types of chocolate that a girl can buy, one for friends and one for guys they like. There is a day in March, the 14th, called White Day. On this day the boys reciprocate. But it isn\'t just chocolate, it can be jewellry or flowers, or love notes. It\'s not as popular in stories, but I think I may touch on it. Just thought I would explain it all!

Chapter 44 – My Valentine - Part 1

Nakago –

I do not know if you will receive this, or if you are even allowed to have letters there, but it has already been a month while I have been in America. It is horrible here. I am ahead of everyone in school, unbelievably, but because my English is poor, I have been placed into the ‘sophomore’ year of high school, which is equal to what Yuki is in now.

Valentine’s Day is done differently in America. Girls sit impatiently waiting for men to give them gifts or to ask them to dances. I miss home, I miss you, and I am sorry if I have caused you any pain.

I can only tell you and give you my hope that everything works out for you. I can tell you that I am sorry that I may have hurt you with my actions. It was a spurt of need, and I will never admit to being perfect. As I write you this, I must apologize again, because I am in the ladies bathroom of the Catholic school, and I just finished with another man. But my love is with you, I just feel I should be honest.

I love only you! I just do not know what to do with myself! Our Aunt is horrid!! Save me!

Shai shifted uncomfortably at the apartment door, staring up at it like a frightening monster that had come from her closet. She shifted the weight of the platter from one hand to another, knowing she should not have been carrying it in her condition, but she had to give it to him. He had been so nice throughout the weeks, and she wanted to do something special for him. She had given Shinwa a chocolate brownie for his heroic actions, and had broken down crying in front of him. He understood, and told her how beautifully she was carrying this pregnancy, and she cried again because he was being so nice.

Now came the harder part. Shai was not used to being aggressive, and even now this was far from aggressive. It was Valentine’s Day and girls always gave men chocolate, even if they were just friends. Was Kyoei just a friend?

The door suddenly opened and Shai nearly yelped out in fright. Amatsu stepped out, dressed in a dark green shirt, with the cross that Fuji had given him on the outside. He looked as gorgeous as ever, and Shai offered him a warm smile. He looked nothing but surprised to see her.

“I was just on my way to your house to pick Fuji up,” he admitted to her. “What are you doing out in about? It’s cold outside; you should be wearing a heavier coat than that.”

“Oh, I’m fine,” Shai said. “I just wanted to, um…”

Amatsu smiled knowingly. “Okay,” he said, reopening the door and allowing Shai to enter. “Kyoei’s in the shower, he’s going to deejay tonight since I’m spending the evening with Fuji.”

“Don’t forget to tell Fuji how nice she looks,” Shai warned Amatsu in a teasing voice.

“She always looks nice,” Amatsu told Shai, stepping out fully into the hallway, eyeing her sweetly. “As do you. You are the vision of an angel, Shai.”

“Save the words for Fuji,” Shai laughed. “I’m going to wait on the couch for Kyoei. I won’t take long, or keep him.”

Amatsu kissed Shai’s forehead sweetly and bid her farewell. Shai stepped into the apartment and heard the shower running from Kyoei’s bedroom. She shifted the platter uncomfortably and placed it on the counter in the kitchen. She looked over and noticed a notepad that most likely had been left by Fuji considering the beautiful green pen that looked more expensive than the whole of the kitchen appliances. Shai debated just leaving Kyoei a note, because now that she was here she felt trepidations to her circumstances.

Shai just started writing the note when Kyoei walked out, a smile on his face, a towel the only thing covering his body, leaving his chest bare and dripping with water. “Oh!” Shai said quite loudly, not meaning to stare at his figure when she finally did notice him. She turned her back to him, a deep flush tinting her cheeks.

“I did not expect to find you in our kitchen,” Kyoei laughed. “Not that I mind.”

“Oh,” Shai repeated, suddenly very self-conscious. “I just came by to drop off the brownies I made, because, well, I wanted to thank you, for being kind to me, and for trying to shield Yuki and I, and just for… everything.”

“Wow, they are heart shaped!” Kyoei cried, already pulling one of the brownies off the platter and shoving it into his mouth.

Shai turned to him, watching him devour the brownie in one large inhalation. “Oh…” she said again, not knowing what else to do. She was feeling terribly lame.

“Yummy,” Kyoei smiled, swallowing down the brownie bits and looking down at the platter. “You made those for me?”

Shai nodded sullenly. She was feeling more and more awkward with every passing second that was going by. “I don’t want to keep you,” she told him, waving her hands in front of her. “I mean, Amatsu told me you have to go to your… um, gig.”

Kyoei checked his watch. It was a quarter till seven in the evening, he still had nearly three hours before he had to be there. “I have plenty of time,” he said to her. “Why don’t you stay and have a brownie with me?”

“Oh,” Shai began, then shook her head to shake off the ‘oh’s’ that were coming out of her mouth. “Sure, I would like that,” she smiled.

Kyoei smiled and went to the fridge, pouring two glasses of milk, one for himself and one for Shai, and placed them down on the counter. He pulled up a chair for Shai and forced her to sit down. “You should not be standing so much,” he said to her, readying himself to snag another brownie.

“It feels nice to get some exercise,” she admitted. “My dad and Fuji are spoiling me, so I’m not doing as much as I would normally.” She shrugged out of her coat, hanging it over the back of the chair. Kyoei was already polishing off his third brownie. It gave Shai a warm feeling to see him thoroughly enjoying what she had made for him with all of her heart.

“You look in great shape to me,” Kyoei smiled, looking her up and down as she reached forward and delicately took a brownie.

Shai blushed. “I miss tennis,” she admitted, trying her hardest to change the subject. “It is the one thing I am really looking forward to going back to.”

Kyoei smiled and just nodded, watching her pick at the brownie with the grace and elegance of an old fashioned woman. “Your hair is growing much longer,” he pointed out, noticing it brushing over her shoulders and curling gently at the bottom. “It’s almost longer than Fuji’s.”

Shai nodded and then suddenly her eyes bulged and her face flushed. “You realize you are still only wearing your towel,” she said to him, her hands suddenly moving to her eyes. She could not believe she had let him just sit down with her that way and he was almost utterly nude, and a good glimpse down had shown her more than she had expected.

Kyoei suddenly stood, but instead of walking into his bedroom, he walked forward and to her. Shai saw his chest suddenly in her line of vision, she looked up into his eyes, and her breath rushed out of her body in a whoosh. She opened her mouth many times to say something, but nothing came out. She could not think of a thing to say except that her heart was caught somewhere in her throat.

“I’m sorry I make you nervous,” Kyoei apologized to her. He lifted his hand to her cheek, softly brushing her hair behind her ear. “I just love to be near you, and you are just so precious.” He leaned forward and chastely kissed her lips, brushing them warmly. Shai allowed it, not knowing what else to do. Her lips trembled under his, enjoying the touch of a man who was still older, but yet closer to her age. A man who was… what was Kyoei? How much did she know about him?

Shai pulled away softly, her blushing taking up her entire face. “I should let you get dressed,” Shai said carefully.

Kyoei leaned forward his forehead directly pressed to hers. She looked so lovely, looking up at him with eyes that still held innocence that should have been ripped away when Mr. Tennison broke her heart. The damage was healing, and instead she was slowly being taken over by a soul that was warm and waiting. She was full of love for the child inside of her, it did not matter what damage Teiiyoku Tennison had done to her, she loved what they had created together.

“You can tell me ‘no’ at any time, and I will stop,” Kyoei told her softly. “I don’t have to be with you in the biblical sense to be with you. I want you in my life, but not if I am forcing you into things.”

Shai let out a small mewling noise that was her way of assenting to his offer, but he only heard the mewling as her bubbling body wanting more, and he wanted to give it to her. “I’m six months pregnant,” she told him as his lips kissed her neck, to her collarbone, to the cleavage that was firm and perky with the pregnancy.

“That does not bother me,” he said to her, slipping his hands under her shirt and over her belly, the gentle mound of her stomach that had grown considerably within the last month, but still left her looking fragile. “As I told you, I will stop at any time.”

He kissed her lips again, this time with nothing chaste remaining. It was all passion and deepness, his tongue roving against hers. Shai answered him with her own passion, and she knew she would regret it tomorrow, but today she wanted to feel loved by someone who was not after her body. How could he be? She was bloating more and more every day and he was still making it clear that he wanted her. “I don’t want to say no.”
