A/N: I couldn't wait to write this.......

I was out in the air, looking round.

Gone. He wasn't there no matter how hard I looked.

Jeannie had followed me, her voice shrieking, "Oh My God! Oh My God!"

"Did he say where he was going?"

"You kicked Corey - "

"Did Alex say where he was going?"

She frowned, "No, he just left."

I started dialling my cell, cigarette dangling from the corner of my mouth, "Hey, I need a cab."

Jeannie looked at me, her head resting to one side, watching me talk. I knew what she was thinking and I knew she'd say it even if I asked her not to.

"Don't say it."

"You really care don't you?"

"I said don't."

"You actually care."

I closed my cell and stood at the end of the road waiting, "I just wanna know what Corey said, alright? I didn't have much opportunity to ask the bastard."

"Y'know I never thought I'd hear you call Corey Adams a bastard."

"Yeah well, he is."

"You loved him at one point."

I wanted to hit her. Bad, I know, but I was pumped up and I couldn't be fucked for explanations.

"Just, go see Andy. Tell him I'm sorry I fucked up his evening."

She left me on the street, my breathe sucking up the vapours from my cigarette. Nicotine's a bitch.

Cab showed up.

I crawled in the back and pointed the way to an apartment I distantly remembered.

**

I banged on the door. It was late, but I wanted him to hear me.

No reply.

"Come on Alex, please."

I banged again.

It opened.

"You didn't have to follow me," he whispered.

"What did he say?"

He blushed, "Nothing."

"What did he say?"

"It was nothing."

My hands were either side of the door frame. I was not taking any shit, "Alex, you just left without saying anything, on your own. Don't...he's a dick, don't be like this, tell me what he said."

"Rafe, it's not important, it's nothing."

"Nothing? It doesn't look like nothing. Please you can tell me. I...I kicked him in the balls for whatever he's said so I guess the damage is already done just tell me!"

"He just...You're his and I'm getting in the way, just that kind of thing."

"Liar," I snapped. "Just, let me in, you can talk to me."

He subdued and moved aside, allowing me to enter his home. It was just as I vaguely remembered with its open-plan look and red walls.

I placed myself on one of his cream sofas and waited for him to sit. Tentatively he sat on the coffee table in front of me.

"What did he say?"

Alex sighed, "Exactly what I said, that I should leave you alone because you were his property and that I wasn't even in the right league. And..."

"And what?" My back snapped up straight.

"That I should just go back to mourning my dead boyfriend," It was barely audible, but I heard it.

Now, I'm an angry guy, I think you've noticed already, but only for my own life and the shit that goes on in it. I do not defend other people, I do not rise to the challenge others have set for me. So please understand that when I darted forward, jumped up and felt like screaming you will understand the gravity of the situation.

"He said that to you? He said that? About your partner, he said that?"

Alex nodded weakly.

"I should've kicked him harder."

I looked down and saw what was happening. He was about to cry.

I sat down on the coffee table next to him, hoping my ass wouldn't break it. I was shaking a little as I placed a hand on one of his own.

"Remember what I said about crying? I mean, I hope you got somethin' in the fridge, 'coz I'll need it, I promise. Like a sandwich or somethin'."

He laughed a little, wiping his nose, sucking his lips into his mouth. But he couldn't stop the tears from falling.

"Corey...I didn't realise that was his name...I've seen him before. Jack and he, well, about five months before Jack died I knew he'd been with someone else, that he'd slept with someone else. This tall, blond man with those natural fucking good looks. I guess I know who he is now."

Corey slept with this guys dead boyfriend? Woah, gettin' too deep. Back away Rafe...back away -

"I'm sorry to hear that."

WTF RAFE?!

"It's ok."

I moved myself round back to the sofa and pulled the half-crying man to sit beside me. I held him close and felt wetness spread across my shirt. I hoped the rental place didn't mind washing out tear-stains.

"Go ahead and cry," I whispered, resting my head on his. "I'll manage for tonight."

I placed a soft kiss on his short, brown hair, my eyes drifting off.

He fell asleep for a while, just like that, with his head resting on my chest. I wanted to mind, to push him off but I didn't, I just stayed and held him.

He woke up after an hour...
