Chap 1 continued

But at the age of ten there is only so much revenge one can have. After Luis was taken and I was knocked unconscious, I was found by a traveling group of monks who were in search of knowledge and wisdom. They took me with them and taught me everything they knew and I absorbed it, knowing that I would need every ounce of knowledge I could use.
When I turned eighteen I left the monks and joined the circus. The monks and I came across them in a village and there I met Jack. Jack was a acrobat and an expert knife thrower. He taught me how to defend myself, he taught me to be a woman and how to love, or rather make love. Eighteen to his twenty-eight, he knew much more than me and after three years of working together, he left me to go back to his family. His note that he left me on the bed after a night of making love, told me that I had taught him to be a man and to be a man he needed to go back to his wife and three kids. To say the least I left the circus and traveled the world. Jack had been my first lover and the first man to break my heart and the only one to do so for the next five years he was the only one. Not to say he was my last lover, but I never got too close and I was always the first to leave.
For the next five years I didn’t just screw around I searched for Luis and found nothing. But I did find that a new religion had begun to spread throughout the world. They called themselves the Followers of the Great, or not so great. These people were not the most merciful religion. Punishments were handed out as rewards and there were rumors of human sacrifice. But no one did anything and they let the cancer grow more and more powerful. Though it was from them that I heard of a warrior with red eyes and a toothed grin; a warrior with much skill that had begun a silent war with the Followers of the Great. This warrior intrigued me and I joined the Followers on their journey to learn more. They lead me to a man in a bar; a man with red eyes and a huge sword hung on his back. I left the Followers and followed the man a distance. I should have followed at longer distance because he found me.
“I know your there, I know you have been following me for a day,” He said turning towards the dark spot I had been hiding in. “I don’t know why you have been and I don’t care Follower.”
“Wait a min—“ but I wasn’t able finish before a attacked me. His sword swung in a huge arc making me dive away. “I don’t think you understand.” I tried again after seeing his wicked sword with a hook at the end.
“No I don’t think you do, your going to die.” And he attacked me again. I didn’t want to hurt him, hoping that he would stop to see that I was just defending himself. But he was good, real good and I was not fast enough with my knives. His hook on his sword pieced my side, driving in deep and pulling me against him, my hands braced against his chest.
“Too slow Follower, now your going to die.” A smile appeared on his lips and a predatory look came upon his eyes, but those eyes and lips look familiar and something in side of me seemed to recognize him, that or I had already begun to lose blood.
“Luis?” I asked in a quite voice and the smile and look in his eyes faltered, “Luis?” I asked again, this time a little louder.
“Aidan,” was his reply and I could feel his heart beat speed up, as his entire being seemed to soften and so did his grip on his sword. Pain radiated throughout my entire being and I fell into darkness, happily knowing I had found Luis again; little did I know that Luis was long dead and someone else had taken his place.

****************************************
Luis was tied to a pole facing what seemed to be a black void that was sucking away at his entire being and there was nothing that I could do as he screamed and his life force taken away, taking his soul. Below him too were five people, all tied to smaller pole in a circle, their souls too being taken away. And there was nothing I could do, nothing but stare at him until he stared back at me. His beautiful red eyes filled with such agony and his mouth biting back another scream for mercy. Looking into his eyes time seemed to stop and I felt his soul reach out for me, stretching until we touched and his soul snapped back into his body, though not before leaving a piece of himself behind with me; my gift to find him again. That is when all hell broke loose.
Stones were falling everywhere as the tower fell and the dark void disappeared. Luis fell too, buried under the ruble. I ran to him trying to doge the rocks, but I never reached him, a sharp pain erupted behind my skull and I knew no more.
