Advising the Soul
Chapter 4
Advising the Soul
The boy above me sighed again, his body relaxing. "Listen kid. You're dead. There is a plain of the afterlife. You just have to find your own way of getting there." He then grumbled to himself, about why they had even given him this job. I was still utter shock. There were other ghost like me! He snorted. "We aren't the type of ghost you're thinking of dude." He stated. "Are you okay kid?" His tone was questioning. That was when I let out all of my arrogation and sadness that I had been feeling while I was alone.
"Fuck no! I'm not okay! I've been wondering around this damn world for I don't know how long! I watched my mom turn into a living train wreck! I can't find out what's wrong with my sister! I felt something weird when I got into the car with mom to go to this strange place where my sister and her boyfriend are! My boyfriend has been crying and its not like him! And sometimes I think he can hear or feel me!" My hands went to my head again, moving from the sides of my body, burring themselves in the strands of my hair. I let out a furcated scream. Its not like anyone could hear, other then the annoying boy that was sitting on me.
"Hey, hey!" I felt him move above me, shifting his weight. "Calm down kid! Screaming is not going to make anything any better!" He shouted at me.
"Then why are you yelling at me!" I shouted back.
"Because you were screaming at me!"
"I wouldn't be screaming at you if you didn't pop out of no where and scare the shit out of me!" I felt him sigh above along with hearing it. This guy was making me mad but at the same time, it was kind of comforting to have someone to talk to, or fight with rather.
"Okay, okay. If I get off of you, do you promise not to run away?" He asked from above me. I nodded my head slightly, feeling him lift his weight off of me, and plop down on the dirty sidewalk without a second thought. "Okay. Now lets get this over with so you can start your 'journey.'" I turned my head to look over at him, he had put air quotes around the last word he said, it kind of looked funny coming from him. Almost made me want to smile, but it didn't. The frown still turned my lips. "And so I can scope out this town. Just been on the west coast. Never been this far inland before." He stated, his head turning from side to side, his eyes looking over the area around us.
I moved then, turning over so that I was on my back, then sitting up. My legs out in front of me and my hands keeping my upper body elevated from the dirty ground. The other boy looked harmless sitting there, legs bent and spread wide, arms rested over his knees, back slouched. Almost harmless. His eyes were once again trained on me, as we openly stared at one another.
"I would say take a picture it last longer, but we're dead so we last forever." The brown haired boy stated, his lips curving into a smirk as he looked at me. I huffed and looked down at the ground, he was getting on my nerves more and more. "I'm sooo sorry you feel that way, kid. We're stuck together, till you can figure out what killed you." He stated with a shrug of his shoulders. I think he likes torturing me already. "No not really. I hate this just as much as you do." Gah!
"Would you stop doing that?! Its getting on my nerves!" I shouted at him. How dare he read my mind without my permission!
"And here we go with the yelling again." He reached one of his hands up and stuck his pinkie finger into his ear, swirling it around for a moment. "You're starting to hurt my ears with your whinnying, pansy." My whole body froze at the word.
"What did you call me?" I asked glaring over at the other boy, who let a smirk come to his lips.
"Oh, did I hit a nerve? I do believe I said pansy, pansy." Okay, is it just me or is he teasing me? Who the fuck cares! He called me a pansy!
"Don't ever call me that again." I stated through clenched teeth.
"What the little baby doesn't like to be called a pansy? Why not? Did someone bad call you that and it brings bad memories? Oh, I'm sorry." His voice started taking on a childish tone as he continued talking.
"Say it again." I dared.
"Pan." My fist clenched at my side. "Sy." I lunged, tackling him to the ground so that I sat between his legs and held his shoulders down onto the pavement. A grin was on his face though. "Can't hurt me kid. I over power you." How in the hell in the few minutes that we've known each other, can I hate him so much? We gazed at each other as I pinned him to the ground, his face holding a smirk, while mine held a glare.
My eyes opened wide the though as I felt my body being flipped over. The surfer boy rolled us over without much resistance from me, even though I was fighting against it as much as I could. I struggled against his hold as he held me down. I glared up at him now.
"Told you." Was all he said, as he tilted his head to the side. "Now are you gong to listen to me, so we can stop fighting like jealous siblings?" I felt myself freeze then, but it wasn't of my own accord. Blackness took over my vision for a second.
"You always loved him more then me! I don't see why! He's gay! You hate gay people!" A girl shouted.
"Annie stop it! I love you two the same! He is just younger then you! And the lord knows that he's a harder worker then you! He's had a job since he was allowed to! You've done nothing! Sat on your ass all day and sucked your boyfriend's cock!"
"I have not! I had a job mom! But I hated it there!"
"They were paying you $200 a week to do dishes!"
"I hated it there!"
"Then don't pay attention to the people, dumb ass! Cayden hates his manager but that hasn't stopped him from working where he works has it?"
"See. You love him more then me, and you always have!" Then there was a sound of a door being slammed.
"Cayden! Damn it kid! Wake up! Don't do this to me!" I felt my body start to shiver then, curling around itself.
"Mom." I whispered out, then jerked upward, making Gabe fall back on his ass. His blue eyes were slightly worried as he looked at me.
"You okay dude? I kinda lost you there for a moment." I looked at him, trying to grasp where I was and who he was.
"My, my sister." He gave me a weird look then, raising one of his eyebrows at me.
"'Kay. What about your sister?"
"Sh-she was always jealous of me." He nodded his head at me for a moment.
"Okay. But what does that have to do with anything?" He thinks I'm stupid and spouting out nonsense. "Yes, at the moment I do." Stop reading my mind! "Sorry, its habit at this point."
"Her and mom always used to get into fights over me. My sister always hated me and my mom thought I was god's gift to the world. So did pretty much every one of mom's friends. Annie was always jealous. And, and now she's in this place. I went there with mom after I died. I couldn't walk into the room where my sister was or where her boyfriend was. But I heard shouting coming from them."
"Wait, couldn't walk through the doors or anything?" I nodded my head at his question, a scowl came to his face, the first one that I had seen on it. His hands took a hold of my shoulders and brought me close to his face. "Don't ever go there again. If the higher ups put a block on those doors there much have been a reason. The only thing that I have ever heard them putting locks on were souls that would corrupt others. Souls that are meant for a different world, ones that aren't supposed to be here." He took one of his hands from my shoulder and pointed it in my face close to my nose. "Don't ever go there again. Do you understand me?" I nodded my head. I didn't think the surfer boy could get that serious. "And quit calling me surfer boy. I was a skater, thank you very much. The only reason I'm dressed like this is because the day that I died we were going swimming."
Note to self, don't make Gabe mad. He's kind of scary when he gets serious. The other boy released me as stood up and started pacing around the street that we were still seated on in front of Mo's house. The sun was raising so we must have been out here for a while. He had one of his hands under his chin, so I'm guessing he's thinking. Wait.. My sister is a bad soul that's not supposed to be here? I let myself grin for a moment. That would explain a lot.
"That is not a laughing matter, kid." Gabe stated stopping in his pacing. "You said that your boyfriend seems to feel, see, and hear you sometimes?" I nodded my head as his eyes snapped over at me. He took to pacing again. "It doesn't make sense. Only experienced souls can make living beings sense them in the living world. That's where you get all the ghost sightings and what not. Someone got bored and decided to visit the living world. You right now, are stuck in it. You have to figure out how you died. That's the way that you are able to find your way to the afterlife."
"What if I don't want to go to the afterlife? What if I want to stay here?" He gave a look. It must have been his look. One of those ones that your parents give you when they know you've done something wrong but you won't admit it but once they give you the look, you spill your beans.
"If you stay here. Your soul will vanish. Not to mention you'll have to watch all of your loved ones grow old, watch Mo get a new boyfriend." Okay, that was not something I wanted to stick around for. I could handle people getting old, but the new boyfriend thing would kill me. Again. "My thoughts exactly." He shrugged his shoulders. "And you never know. You might find someone in the afterlife that completes you better then your living boyfriend." I snorted softly.
"I doubt it. I'll just wait till he dies and we can be together then." That caused Gabe to out right laugh.
"You know when people die they stay in the form and clothing and stuff that they die in. Do you want to see Mo in some hospital gown, old and wrinkly. You want to kiss that and stuff? You are braver then I am, kid."
"Why do you keep calling me that? I have a name you know. Its Cayden. Say it with me. Cay-den. Not kid."
"Whatever kid." I saw him smirk then, though it was a playful one. He walked over to me and held out his hand. I looked at it for a moment, then up at him raising a brow. "Come on. We need to get a jump on how you died so that you can get to meeting that special someone in the afterlife." He winked and I snorted again as I took a hold of his hand and he pulled me to my feet. "To your mom's house. We should start there, and saying we because you can't do this on your own. I've made that choice. Because kid, you don't seem like you can handle it."
"I can handle it just fine!"
"Even if we come up with something that makes you want to cry again? You know its very rare for a soul to cry don't you? And you've cried enough for five souls." I snorted as I started to lead the way to my mother's home.
A/N: Sorry its taken so long to get this out. Getting stuff ready for college! I leave next week.
