CHAPTER 4:

As soon as Kiyoshi arrived to the scene of the crime, he began to think that perhaps he coming there alone wasn’t such a great idea. Alright, his idea was horrible. While getting off of his vehicle, resetting his cap, and removing his gun from his belt, Kiyoshi could only think, “Why the fuck am I here?,” or ,”This is stupid, this is stupid, this is stupid, this is stupid!” However, though Kiyoshi did not feel confident, he was wishing for a miracle. Perhaps a miracle would happen. Kiyoshi just knew one thing: he didn’t want to die.

“Okay,” Kiyoshi breathed out cool air as he began to circle around the empty building, “This isn’t too bad. Maybe nothing will happen?” Kiyoshi had spoken to soon. Without paying attention, Kiyoshi felt himself tripping over something lying on the ground, “Gah,” Kiyoshi fell onto the object he had tripped over. Landing on his hands and knees, Kiyoshi opened his eyes to see a most horrific sight. Kiyoshi wanted to scream as he sunk lower down into the dead, slimy corpse. He, however, could not find speech as he struggled to get his hands off of the bloody mess. He soon was released from the body, and fell backwards onto the cement. Kiyoshi’s eyes had widened at the sight of the body. He hadn’t expected that! Kiyoshi’s night, however, had just begun. Kiyoshi’s head shot up, then, to the sound of coughing. Tightening his now slimy gun, Kiyoshi took a sound to hear more coughing. Kiyoshi found himself struggle to stand up, but he soon began to walk towards the cough.

Peeking around the corner, Kiyoshi nearly went into panic to find a shadowy man with long, dark brown hair looking down at another dead corpse. The man was covered in black clothing. Kiyoshi noticed he wore a long cape, too. Taking in a deep breath, Kiyoshi felt that this was his chance.

“No turning back,” Kiyoshi blinked a few times, hoping to not let tears escape, “You can do this, Kiyoshi.” Then, Kiyoshi ran out from behind the building and stuck his gun out at the man, “Freeze,” Kiyoshi yelled, “I caught you red-handed murderer! Put your hands into the air!” Kiyoshi felt his entire body begin to shake. The man, then, turned his head to look at Kiyoshi. This made Kiyoshi feel cowardly, but he kept his gun pointed down at the man, “I said put your hands over your head! I’ll…I’ll shoot you!” Kiyoshi was sure he’d piss himself just as the man came to stand on his feet. The man, however, obeyed Kiyoshi. He raised his hands into the air, but as he did so, Kiyoshi really noticed the man’s face. He had the most dangerous of brown eyes. His expression was motionless; as if he weren’t thinking about anything, “Alright,” Kiyoshi’s voice jittered, but who could blame him, “Now walk over here slowly. And don’t you dare try anything, or else I will shoot you!”

Luke was just examining the dead body when this young officer stopped him. The man was definitely one of those mortal officers. Luke recognized him to be an OOP officer. Rising to his feet, Luke turned to the mortal and raised his hands into the air, but just as he did so, he noticed something strange about this boy. Luke felt a strangeness rise in his heart, as if he were destined to meet this boy. As Luke eyed the mortal boy, he noticed that the boy was staring at him in almost a same way. The two stood in place for a few seconds, just examining one another.

Kiyoshi kept his gun pointed at Luke, but after a moment a sudden pain found its way over Kiyoshi’s heart. His skin began to burn. Wincing in pain, Kiyoshi lowered his gun as he grasped for where the pain was. Luke watched in fascination. Something was definitely not right, here. Luke kept his eyes on Kiyoshi. Kiyoshi felt as if someone had just stabbed him in the heart. Quickly opening his shirt, Kiyoshi pushed open the left side to figure why he hurt. As soon as his chest came into view, Luke’s eyes widened in complete shock. There, on the mortal’s skin in the exact spot of his heart, was a strange, glowing symbol. The mortal was also shocked, but didn’t look as if he hadn’t known the symbol was there. The pain Kiyoshi felt, then, suddenly stopped. He tried to calm down, but looking up Kiyoshi was shocked to find the shadowy man had run right into his face. Kiyoshi was so scared he found himself screaming; randomly shooting bullets into the man’s stomach. Blood flew, but the man never once felt pain. Before Kiyoshi knew it, he was out of bullets. With a face filled with fright, Kiyoshi felt like an ant compared to this man. The man should be dead! Why wasn’t the man dead? Kiyoshi had no time to think it over, for as soon as he ran out of bullets, the man grasped tightly to his shoulders and pushed him against the wall. Kiyoshi released his gun, crying out as soon as his body hit the cold, hard wall.

Luke had scared the mortal, but at the moment he did not care. With a feeling of anger, mixed with a feeling of confusion Luke grasped tightly to the mortal’s shoulders and pushed the mortal up against the wall. The boy was deathly scared. Luke to a good look at the boy’s nametag. It read: Kiyoshi. Luke to a glare at Kiyoshi. The boy had wet, warm tears running out of his blue eyes. Luke knew about tears. Mortal’s shed them a lot, but it’s only because they actually get injured. Luke has never cried; plans on never doing so. As Kiyoshi continued to shed tears, Luke opened up Kiyoshi’s shirt to reveal the strange symbol once again.

“You,” Kiyoshi was surprised to hear this man speak. His voice was dark and low, “You have a…a tattoo…” Luke shook his head, “This cannot be. You’re my…my…” Kiyoshi was confused as hell after Luke finished, “You’re my puppet.”

“Huh?” Kiyoshi had no clue of what this man talked of. He felt very dizzy at that moment, but Kiyoshi grew more frightened when the man’s calm, cold face began to move closer to his, “Uh…uh…” The man’s face nearly touched Kiyoshi’s, but just then lights could be seen; more voices heard. Luke cursed under his breath before completely vanishing from sight. Kiyoshi, too stunned for words, slowly slid down the wall and onto the floor. He didn’t even notice that his pants were wet; how embarrassing.

Just then, Officer Talakani, alongside another officer, came into view. Officer Talakani couldn’t believe the sight before him.

“Kiyoshi,” Officer Talakani grew angry, “Shit, Kiyoshi, what the fuck are you doing here!” Kiyoshi’s mouth was dry. He found that he could turn his head, but he was still too stunned to talk, “Damn, what the hell happened to you? Oh man, Sir Wakehiko is not going to be pleased!”

“Damn it,” Officer Wakehiko rubbed his neck, glaring at Kiyoshi from behind glass, “What the hell was he thinking?” Kiyoshi had been brought back to the OOP station. Officer Talakani and his partner had trouble getting Kiyoshi back, but after a while Kiyoshi was back to his self, and now sat wearing a new set of clothes. He patiently awaited Officer Wakehiko, waiting for his punishment. The door soon opened, and Kiyoshi found himself looking up at a very stressed out Officer Wakehiko. Officer Wakehiko slowly shut the door behind him, and giving Kiyoshi a displeased sigh, Officer Wakehiko made his way further into the room. Kiyoshi stayed silent as Officer Wakehiko paced the room. Rubbing his neck, Officer Wakehiko finally spoke, “Kiyoshi,” Officer Wakehiko sighed, “I am very, very disappointed in you.” Kiyoshi gulped down a clump of gunk stuck in his throat, “I mean,” Officer Wakehiko looked Kiyoshi straight in the eye, “What the hell were you thinking! You could’ve been seriously injured tonight, or worse, killed!”

“I know,” Kiyoshi lowered his head, keeping his eyes placed on a pen, “I’m sorry. It was stupid of me, but…”

“Oh,” Officer Wakehiko’s hands shot into the air, “There’s a plot to this story.”

“I just wanted you to notice me more,” Officer Wakehiko stayed silent, allowing Kiyoshi to finish, “I mean, I’m sick of being treated poorly. I’m always assigned stupid tasks.”

“Kiyoshi,” Officer Wakehiko took a seat in front of Kiyoshi, “That’s why you went behind my back?”

“I guess…” Kiyoshi took a deep breath, “I just wanted to prove to you that I could be good.” Kiyoshi found himself laughing, then, but in a joking matter, “I guess I failed to prove myself, worthy, right?” Kiyoshi was stunned when Officer Wakehiko took Kiyoshi’s hands into his own.

“Kiyoshi,” Officer Wakehiko said, “What you did tonight was stupid, but it’s only because you aren’t fully trained yet. I understand how you feel. I was the exact same way at your age! However, I, too, wasn’t the brightest officer…”

“Hey…” Officer Wakehiko smiled at Kiyoshi’s sudden doubt.

“But stop worrying about it, Kiyoshi. Someday, sometime, it’ll be you in charge of running things. And anytime you want, you could do any badass case you desire.” Kiyoshi smiled at Officer Wakehiko’s word use.

“Really?” Officer Wakehiko patted Kiyoshi’s hands, and then leaned back in the chair he sat in.

“Heh,” Officer Wakehiko gave Kiyoshi a reassuring nod, “Really. For now, though, I’ve asked Officer Talakani to take you home for the night. Are you going to be alright?” Kiyoshi thought of the shadowy man, but then tried shaking the man out of his head.

“Yeah,” Kiyoshi nodded, “I’ll be fine.” Kiyoshi stood to his feet and headed for the door, but Officer Wakehiko briefly stopped him.

“Kiyoshi,” Kiyoshi turned to Officer Wakehiko, “Tomorrow, I except to hear a full report from you. You were really shook up. Are you sure you’ll be fine?”

“Yes, I will be,” Kiyoshi gave his boss a thumbs up, “And I promise to give a full review.” Officer Wakehiko gave a nod, and then waved Kiyoshi good night.

Now home, Kiyoshi quickly turned on all of the lights. He checked every corner within his house, and then gave a loud sigh.

“I scare too easily,” Kiyoshi removed the shirt he borrowed. He promised to return the clothes the next day, “But I hope that guy doesn’t come back.” Hoping to not worry about the mysterious man for the remainder of the night, Kiyoshi skipped dinner, and fell asleep right away. He wanted morning to come. Nights were scary as hell.
