Laughing...
Giggling..
It came from the little secluded spot that Rami had chosen. Leon glanced over, smiling. He hadn’t heard Kitten laugh like that in a while. With nightfall on camp, everyone was relaxing and settling down to a bite to eat. The camels were sleeping and people, like Kitten and Rami, were taking a moment to actually enjoy them selves.
“Hey!” Kitten laughed still. “No biting the fingers, you.”
“They are so tasty.” Rami leaned up, nipping a finger tip. “Delicious.”
“I am going to smoosh a grape all over you.”
“Oh, yum.” Rami chuckled.
“Silly.” Kitten couldn’t help her self. He made her smile on the inside and out. “Okay..one more and no biting my fingers or else you have to feed me.”
“That just gives me reason to bite them.”
“Well here then.” She placed the bowl on his stomach. “I’ll just cut to the chase.”
And across the water, Leon chuckled as he watched the two. He was eating alone, pondering the early morning to come.
“I see your daughter is getting along with the herder very well.” Aziz came up, smiling. “I also heard you let into my son.”
“I told him that I meant no offense and I simply gave him a fatherly warning.” He turned, facing Aziz. “I have to protect my girl. Her mother would want that.”
“No, I think this is good. He needs to learn that ways and people are different. It makes for a better Sultan in the end. He needs to know his boundaries, especially if he is seeking a young woman like your daughter.” Aziz seemed very understanding about the whole thing.
“I’m glad we understand each other then.” Leon smiled. “But...We won’t really have to worry about if she likes your son or not. I have a feeling her interests are already tied up and taken.”
“It would seem so, but..my son is a charming man, when he drops his arrogance. He may surprise you.” Aziz laughed heartily. “Anyways, I must go see my wives. They expect me to visit.”
“Take care and I will see you early in the morning.”
“Good night.” Aziz said as he walked off.

Early in the Am
“Bandits!” The guards yelled. “Bandits attacking!”
The first screams came from the women’s tent, just as Leon had predicted. Quickly, Rami was up and beside Kitten. Leon, ran for cover over by Kitten and Rami’s area.
“Shh.” Rami pulled her and her father back into the shadows of the trees. “Do not scream. They will hear you.”
“Thank gods.” Leon panted. “Thank you for looking out for her.”
The guards scrambled, chasing the bandits. Several women were being taken. The sultan’s concerns were not his. Only kitten was his real concern as she was his companion and friend. Her father also counted in that as the man was her father.
“I thought I saw bandits behind us.” Leon growled. “I warned that arrogant prince that the women were in a bad spot.”
“Stay here and stay safe. They will not come here for you. I will go help the others.” Rami pulled away.
“Rami..” Kitten gasped.
“I have to help those women. They do not deserve this.” With that, Rami took off in a quick run.
“Daddy..” Kitten whispered in a whimper.
“Just stay here. He is right. Those girls do not deserve to be taken like this just because they are women.” Leon pulled her back further into the dark. “Now shh.” He spoke in a low voice.
Rami acted quickly, not revealing his ‘other ‘side while he fought. The girls were rescued quickly, with Rami’s help.
“Quickly! This way!”
The bandits tried to run but were cut off. Rami jumped in front of one, smirking. The bandit flew back from him, screaming. He had this battle sewn up.
“Rami..” Kitten watched on, nervously. “Please don’t be hurt.” She whispered.
“He won’t be, sweety.” Leon held her. He secretly prayed that he was right.

“Kitten!” Rami ran back to them, after everything was settled and done. “Are you alright?”
“You’re alright.” She hugged him quickly. “I was worried about you.”
“You know I couldn’t leave you.” Rami hugged her close, nodding to Leon. “The Sultan’s daughters and wives are safe. I believe he is looking for you right now, sir.”
“Thank you, Rami.” Leon smiled. “I trust you will keep an eye on her for me?”
“Always, sir.” Rami held her, still.
“I’m off.” Leon kissed his daughters cheek. “Be safe and watch out for more bandits. I have a feeling that they are still around.”
“Leon! Are you here?” His caravan leader called for him. “Mr. Gyreshon!”
“Over here.” Leon came running. “What’s the damage look like? What did we lose?”
“How is your daughter, sir?” Badawi asked.
“She is fine. She is with Rami right now.” Leon started going through some of their things.
“He really saved us out there.” The Caravan leader nodded. “The Sultan will be grateful.”
They continued their inventory. Hopefully, they didn’t lose too much. If they did, Leon understood. He knew the women were top priority to save on Rami’s and his list. Treasure or items was far less important.

That morning, around five Am
“Is everyone ready?” Leon inspected the pack camels and his men. “Keep a close eye out there today. We should be near one of the smaller villages by noon. If we can get there, we should be safe from the bandits if they are following. And, for gods sake, please listen to Badawi.”
The sultan’s men were getting ready on the other side. Aziz was a little perturbed that his own men could not fend off bandits like a camel herder did. At least his wives were saved but he was still annoyed as his possessions were taken. He would have rather lost the wives.
“Father,” Bruhier rode up beside him. “Everyone is getting ready to leave.”
“Very well.” Aziz glanced over at Kitten and Rami. “How could he worry about the women more than my priceless silks and gold?”
“You said so your self, father. He is weak hearted and cares for women as if they are treasure.” Bruhier shook his head. “But, you did at least have his help. He was not required to help as he was with Leon’s men. We can not show our selves yet.”
“You are right, son. We will wait and when the time is right, the weak link will be banished. His treasure will be yours and all will be fixed and made up for.” Aziz smirked. “So for now, we play nice.”
“Come!” Aziz called. “Let us begin before the heat of the day catches up to us.”
With his sign of readiness, the Caravan started off. Leon kept his group just a little back from the Sultan’s, but yet close enough so that they had the protection of the group. Rami stayed towards the back of Leo’s group with Kitten as he knew things were not right in some minds. The sultan lost a lot of expensive goods because he chose to help the women instead of the treasure. Rami knew retaliation would soon be tried.
“You’re quiet, Rami.” Kitten looked up at him. “Is something wrong?”
“Nothing that can’t be fixed.” smiling at her, he nodded. “I just suspect that our dear sultan is not very happy with me right now.”
“Why? You saved his wives. He should be thanking you.” She would never understand the typical Arabic man. Kitten sighed, leaning her back against Rami’s chest. “At least my father didn’t lose anything.”
“They were after the Sultan’s group for some reason.”
“That’s easy to guess why. And did you see those girls? Their faces were all covered and they were bowing and crawling this morning. I felt so sorry for them.”
“They are Sultan’s wives. They serve their master. He is not a husband to them. He is just what I said. He is a master to them.” Rami glanced around. “If I did not fear for your father, I would get us out of here right now.”
“There is no way that my father would leave his men behind. Even if we did tell him the truth, he would say he has a duty to get them to the city.” In a way, Kitten wished she could tell him the truth. Maybe then he would listen to reason about leaving the danger of this Caravan ride. But she knew he wouldn’t, deep down. “We simply have to stick it out until we get to the city.”
“And then...you will let me take you away from this?” Rami asked.
“Me and my father. I can’t leave him behind, knowing that the sultan isn’t happy. People like him, they do bad things when they aren’t happy.”
“He will have to know the truth in orders to understand.”
“I know, Rami. But what other choice is there?” Kitten shifted so she could sit sideways in the saddle. That was one thing about the two person saddle she liked. It didn’t cramp you, plus it had side bars on it so one could hang on. It reminded her of the camel rides ,back at the petting zoo, when she was little. “Do you think he could handle knowing?”
“He appears to be an understanding man. I think he could understand it.” Rami nodded. “I am almost a hundred percent positive that he could.”
“I guess we will see.” She turned back to face the front. “And I am way tired by the way. Just thought I would throw that in there.”
“Lay back, close your eyes and relax.” He hugged her against him. “I do not mind. And..I will make sure you stay cool.” Rami whispered.
“This, I can handle.” Yawning, she nuzzled against him. “Are you sure that you don’t mind?”
“You would know if I did.” Rami shifted, holding her so she was comfortably laying against him. “I will wake you when we get close.”
“Thank you, Rami.” Kitten whispered.
It felt really nice against him. What ever magic he was using to cool the area around her, she liked it. In fact, she was already half asleep. Rami chuckled, holding her still. There was no way that he would complain. She made him smile on the inside and out. With her wish, she made him smile more. Maybe...just maybe, he was finally filling a void, which he had been denied since the beginning of his life in the amulet, with his new friend and companion.
888888888888888888888888
And towards the middle/front
“Sir, I know it isn’t any of my concern but do you see your daughter back there?” Badawi looked a bit gruff. “This is inappropriate behavior for a unmarried girl.”
“Badawi, my dear friend. Let me deal with what is appropriate and what isn’t. She is sleeping. She is not naked in front of him. She is not doing things with him. She is simply asleep. They have ridden for two days together. He saved her from bandit attack. I trust him with her, unlike you. I do not trust you with her. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.” Leon smiled. “So, are we at an understanding?”
“I appreciate the blunt honesty, sir. You are right. I probably would not treat her as an Equal. I would treat her as a woman is supposed to be treated. She would bare my children and she would ride behind me, out of the eye sight of other men. I figure that I owe you the same blunt honesty.” Badawi replied.
“And this is why we understand each other. You are my Caravan master and not my daughters boyfriend or significant other. You will never be. We, however, remain friends on that level of honesty with one another. In knowing that we both have our ways, yes?” Leon asked.
“Yes.” Badawi replied.
“Then I shall ask you to keep your parenting advice to your self.” Leon smiled. “Now..lets keep the rest of this Caravan ride pleasant, shall we?”
“Of course, Mr. Gyreshon.” Badawi smiled. ”I shall go check on things.”
“You do that.” Leon replied.
“I will, sir.”
Badawi said as he rode off towards the back and towards the men. He had to respect Leon for his brisk mannerism. That was one reason he worked for him. He knew Leon would never Bull shit him.
“Excuse me Mr. Gyreshon, sir, we will be needing to make a supply stop soon,” Abdel said. “In the raid, the reserve supply bags were damaged, and we have been slowly leaking water across the desert.” He held up a nearly empty water bag. “If it had not been discovered, we would have become stranded with no water soon. We will have to start rationing as it is.” He glanced around. “I need not tell you the dangers of being without water here.”
“We are better off than the Sultan’s group.” Leon nodded. “Alright, we will be at a town by noon at least. We should be able to get some of our supplies out and trade for good water bags there. Until then, ration what you must. Give my extra canteen to my daughter.” He extended it. “And I will ration my other canteen with the rest of the men.”
His daughter was the only one that he would not make go without water. He didn’t care if that meant he had to ration or not. Leon, for every part of the words, was a good father and maybe that’s what irritated the Arabic men. He treated his daughter like a jewel.
“But of course, Sir,” Abdel said. “Though perhaps it is best if it is you who would be giving her the water sir. Though I would most certainly do as you have requested, I do not think that the others would be liking it too much for me to be giving her the water. It is against everything that they are believing.” He glanced up. “You must not be forgetting that our ways are completely different that yours, and what you are used to doing is not the way that things should be done.” He had spent time in other countries, so wasn’t as surprised or bothered by Leon’s ways. The others, however, wouldn’t be quite as understanding.
“Take this one then and send it to the rations area.” Leon smiled. “Okay?” He turned his camel after handing the water over. “I am going to give her my canteen.”
Abdel nodding, taking the canteen, holding it as he watched Leon head off to ride with Kitten and Rami. As interesting as things had been so far, they were about to get even more so. Oh, this was only the beginning of things, he could feel that. And his instincts were never wrong. He headed off to the others to inform them of the temporary rationing, at least until they reached the next town. He wondered how long it would be before someone panicked and tried to steal what little water there was left.
