Chapter Four
.
A/N: Of Blood and Destiny is an original rp adventure played by Triceybabe - Jin, and Best Left Exposed - Kuriin. We both have fun playing with these guys, we hope you enjoy reading. :)
-----------------------------------------------
Jin sat across the man that had hired him to steal from Kuriin. His arms were folded, and he looked at him with disdain in his eyes. "Let me get this straight... you want me to sneak into Kuriin's home again and get the jewels? What kind of fool do you take me for?!" he half yelled.
The man cleared his throat. "This time I will send a team with you. Bodyguards, if you please. I want those jewels, and I'll do what I must to get them. If you don't... well this should persuade you..." The man pushed a folded up parchment across the table.
Jin picked up the paper and unfolded it. What he saw shocked him to the bones. The paper contained the exact blueprint of the orphanage. "Wha?"
"Surely you understand what I'm saying. If you don't do this, your beloved orphanage goes bye bye... go boom... it will be nothing when I'm done with it. And the children... dead. I'll make the job easier this time... You distract him while one of my men go in to swipe the loot. IS that easy enough for you?"
Jin's fist clenched in anger. Pushing his chair back he headed out the door.
"Let me know your answer, tomorrow," the foul man said almost pleasantly.
~~~~~
It had been several days since that night. Kuriin burned with profound need to see Jin again. It was a burn that consumed him. Waking and sleeping. He had never found out where the boy stayed... didn't really know anything at all about him other than he was a thief. "Careless," he berated himself. Yet the burn continued. No matter how often he fed, he felt empty inside. Needing something that was out of reach. He ran the broken imagines he had gleaned from Jin's blood in his mind, yet could find nothing of real use. He rammed his fist into the wall in frustration, savoring the burst of pain. "Jin..." How unlike him to be so... distracted. Fretting about someone other than himself...
Jin ran through the trees at top speed heading out of town. One destination on his mind. The only place that had taken him in. He breathed a sigh of relief as the orphanage came within sight. "Goodness..." he said, flopping unto the ground, suddenly tired. "I don't know what to do..."
"I've got to see him again," Kuriin muttered. He stormed out of the empty house and made his way into town. He was going to find him... had to find him. The need was so encompensing, he could barely think of anything else. Even the constant nagging hunger dampened. He had his contacts, sure, but whether they could locate the wayward thief was another thing altogether. The kind of information they dealt in was not the same as what Jin was involved in. But it was worth the effort, just to see him again, at least one more time...
Jin hid face in his hands as he sat in front of the orphanage. It had been years since he felt like crying but all he wanted to do was cry his eyes out. He finally found someone that made his heart leap, his body hum in his very presence, and he had to give it up... there was no way he was going to let those men kill the children.
What Kuriin found was indeed interesting. He never would have guessed the boy was in so deeply. What could have possibly made him get so far in over his head. The circles he ran in... it was disturbing. Dark men... evil men. A slow rage built up in his belly. He HAD to find Jin. Now. There were things going on that Jin was not aware of, even if he did play a small part. No one he had pumped for info was forthcoming with Jin's whereabouts, but there was a rumor about an orphanage north of town of which he was vaguely aware. It was worth pursuing any avenue to find the youth that had inadvertently drawn him into something he wasn't sure he wanted to confront 100%.
Jin stood up and began climbing the tree nearest the shelter. He jumped onto the roof and laid down, his eyes drawn irrevocably to the stars. "Father... I'm lost..," he whispered to the midnight blue. "I met someone... he's very special to me... I think you would like him. He's very sweet... strong... dangerous. I... uh... I've fallen for him, but I could never tell him... Father... I'm going to hurt him..." Tears leaked from his eyes. "He's going to hate me..."
It didn't really take that long to find his way to the far edge of town. The orphanage was set near a winding lane off the main path. Trees blocked the view from the road. As Kuriin turned onto the small path toward the run down, but clean complex, he paused briefly. A small frown pressed his lips and he continued up the slight incline of the small hill. If he couldn't find Jin here, then... he didn't know what he would do. He was unused to not getting his way and if he had to climb the ladder to the head of the thieves ring, well, then, so be it. He paused again at the edge of the clearing that delineated the orphanage property.
Thin moonlight washing everything in a crisp, pale bluish tint; any other time, he would've relished the coolness of the night, but he had another task at hand. His sharp eyes pierced into the night, scanning his surroundings. He knew as he walked toward the nearest building that Jin was there. He could feel it vibrating along his nerves... the bond they had created tugging at him. He called out into the darkness, "Jin!" He didn't yell exactly, but hoped the bond was enough that the strained whisper into the darkness could be heard. "Jin! Please! I need... I want to see you! Where are you? I know you're here!"
Jin sat up. "Kuriin?" he whispered in disbelief. He crawled to the edge of the roof to see him below the tree. "Kuriin?" He was so shocked, he missed a step, falling off the roof.
Kuriin heard his voice and zeroed in on his location only to see him slip and fall off the roof. He moved. First there and then catching the boy in his arms as he fell from the roof, both of them tumbling to the ground with a grunt. "Jin!" He didn't quite clutch at the startled boy, but held to him tightly, burying his face in his tangled hair, taking in the warm scent of him. The stab of longing jabbing him sharply where his heart should be. "Jin," he murmured again, trying to express all that words could not in his voice.
Jin's arms moved instinctively around Kuriin's waist. He buried his face in his chest, clutching him tightly. "Kuriin..," he said wondrously. "How... how did you find me?" he asked looking up with red rimmed eyes. "What are you doing here?"
"Listen, Jin. I've been doing some snooping. I've got some.. umm... contacts - people I can pump for info. I hadn't heard from you for days and I... I.... wanted to see you again..." He trailed off. "Jin, I don't know the details, but you are in with some really nasty men. You've got to get out!" He, then, did clutch to the boy, pulling him in to suffocating embrace, pressing his lips into the top of his head. "I told you before... I will protect you."
Jin shook his head. "You're crazy... I'm not the one that needs protecting," he said glancing at the shelter out the corner of his eyes. "Why are you...?" His question trailed off. "I'm... I'm not worth it..," he said almost inaudibly.
"I can handle myself. I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about YOU. Jin, I care about you. What can I do to make you see that? I... care about you." It was almost funny. A thief and a demon. Some cosmic force had a peculiar sense of humor. He swallowed a laugh that threatened to bubble up irrationally. "If you are passing out judgment on anyone... yourself, me... then I don't deserve to even be in your presence. Jin... I don't care about anything but you." If he even deserved to care about anything at all. He clenched his jaw against the pain of his past.
Jin climbed into his lap and wrapped his arms around his neck. He nuzzled his head against his neck like a cat rubbing against a leg. Placing his mouth against Kuriin's ear, "I love you," he whispered and then quickly changed the subject. "I... uh... I am in trouble... the kids... and they said that if I didn't... they'd kill them..." He paused before looking up with wide, strangely innocent eyes. "What do you have that they want so badly?" he asked curiously.
Kuriin sighed at the contact. Struck by the forceful vehemence of those rushed words.... I love you... Emotion boiled to the surface and he quickly quelled them, not sure if he could jeopardize what they had now by thinking about what those whispered words meant. He shut it out for the time being, pulling his mind to the present. Thinking about all the possessions he had accumulated over the years. Nothing came to his mind. "I'm not sure..," he paused trying to rummage through old memories. Then comprehension dawned in his eyes. "Oh shit," he groaned. "Anything but that... no one could possibly know... Is that why you were at my home... that first time?"
He blushed thinking about their first encounter. "Um... I was suppose to pick up some jewels... I don't know their significance... I thought they just wanted them so that they can sell them. I... uh... don't generally ask the reason why my clients want something stolen," he said, dipping his face down in shame.
He touched his face tenderly. "It's not your fault. You did... do what you have to do, as must we all." Oh, how he wanted to kiss those lips and did. The desire welling from within, he exerted his self-control fiercely. "I don't know how they found out about them. No one could possibly know except. Fuck." Except his family. Those bastards! His face contorted with fury, then smoothed just as quickly. "The gems... they are... I can't tell you, Jin; I'm sorry. Even knowing of their existence puts you in extreme danger. Jin... oh god! Why did it have to be you?" He wrapped his arms around him even more tightly, if it were possible. He felt like keening in anguish.
Jin was confused but hugged him in return. "I'm already in too deep, Kuriin. Tell me why its so important for them to have it that they would threaten children? I need to know, Kuriin," he beseeched caressing his cheek.
Kuriin gritted his teeth in frustration. Jin was right, but he wished fervently it was otherwise. "All I'm willing to tell you now is that they are key to the magical balance of this world. Ironic they are in my possession, isn't it?" He laughed without mirth. "Whomever holds them, holds more power than any mortal should be allowed. I will not get into how I... ummm... acquired them." A flash of pain glimmered in his eyes and was gone. "Those men cannot be allowed to have them. Under any circumstances. I won't allow it. Do you understand?" It hurt to say it. He would've done anything at all for the boy snuggled so comfortingly in his arms... anything but that. He pressed his lips on his brow, wishing to ease the sting of his words. "Jin... god..." It hurt too damn much.
"It's ok..," he whispered. "We'll find a way to work things out. They wanted me to steal them from you again. And they threatened the children in the shelter. They wanted me to distract you while they snuck in. I think they've been watching me awhile. I'm sorry...I've led them straight to you," he said.
"We've gotta move, now. Get the children to a safe place if you can. The gems are safe for the moment, but..." He left the thought hanging. He ran his hand through Jin's soft hair and pulled him for a deep slow kiss. Fire lancing through him at the feel of his soft pliant mouth and moaned. He pulled away reluctantly. "Jin... I don't want to lose you," he said softly, gazing deeply into his eyes. Then, "Did they say when they were going to strike? I need at least an hour to pull out. Goddamn it." The frustrated rage bubbling up again. "I'll kill them all!"
Jin kissed him. Firmly, softly, effectively shutting him up and dampening his fears. He nibbled on his bottom lip. He pulled back.
"Do what you can to keep the kids safe. But get out at the first sign of danger, okay? I'll return for you, I promise," he said caressing his cheek, moving down to stroke this neck. His eyes burned with the intensity of the passion that sparked between them. "And most of all, don't get yourself killed," he said untangling their limbs, rising to his feet, pulling Jin up with him and into his embrace again, his reluctance to leave apparent, warring with the knowledge of what had to be done.
Jin sighed. "I will get the kids to safety... but you keep yourself safe as well... for me. They wanted me give my answer tomorrow evening," he said quietly. "I think my father would have loved you," he whispered.
Kuriin smiled softly, a faint hint of pain creasing his brow. "Okay, good, that's plenty of time. Those bastards are going to pay. I hate moving." The smile widened, for Jin's sake. "If you are anything like your father... I would've like him, too." The smile turning sad again. "Jin... I love you, too." He whispered barely above audible into the crown of his head and then turned away to leave, foreboding tugging at him. 'If anything happens to Jin,' he thought, 'there will be hell to pay.' The beast in his soul rearing up, urging him to rend anything in his way. He ground his teeth so hard, they crackled with pressure. "No," he mouthed silently. As the rage passed, he glanced one last time at the shadowy figure of Jin watching him leave.
