chapter four

Dear all,

Because of a mistake done so many years ago, I’m going to try and fix everything. I know that Violet, my daughter from Merry lived her whole life without knowing I existed. She found out after the death of her mother that I’m alive and not dead like her mother had convinced her. I know she lived a poor life and married a bad man, that’s why I gave her money in order to fix a mistake, but you can never fix a mistake with another mistake. I should have gave her my love not my money, for she had considered me a bad man who left her mother after his wife found out about his affair. She considered herself a victim and considered me guilty of destroying her life. I know I can’t change her now, but I wish I’d be able to change her daughter’s life, and stop her from taking the same path her mother took. I’ve met Cairo and she is such a nice person, she’s driving Adam insane, I know but he’s going to have to get used to it. If he wants my money and his inheritance he’s going to have to marry Cairo, and if Cairo wants to keep her apartment and the money her mother sends her for college she’s going to have to marry Adam. I know it might sound crazy for you but I know both of you, Adam I raised you as my son not my grandson, and Cairo I know I only spend a little time with you but I know you well, you’re just like your grandmother Merry, sweet and nice, beautiful and kind and I know you have her temper too. You and Adam are going to be happy together I assure you both. Please do what I ask you to and let me die knowing that I tried to change both of your lives into better ones.

P.S, I think six months are enough. You’re going to get to know each other well. If you, after the six months period decided you can’t live with one another and can’t continue like that then you two can get a divorce. But I must tell you, there are some things that must be done;

First, you two must get married in a church as I don’t believe in anything else.

Second, you must live together in my house (I know you Adam, you’re gonna have to get used to living with a wife. And not Celina! She is not good enough for you.

Third, living alone doesn’t mean sleeping in separate rooms, no. I’ve asked a designer to design a room in the left wing of the house. It’s going to be your room if you agreed to the terms above.

I hope you’re going to accept them and I promise you a wonderful life together.

In case you two disagreed, a month from the day Den reads my will my money and everything will be transferred through Den, my friend and my lawyer to a charity organization.

Jake Walsh

“Uh, there’s no way out of this Den?” Adam asked as he handed the lawyer back the will after reading it for the third time.

“No, sorry Adam. Son, I’ve known you ever since you were a child and I’ve known your father too, I was your grandfather’s friend and I knew Jake well,” he rubbed his forehead then took off his glasses, “I’m sorry to tell you that he didn’t leave us a way out this time.”

Adam looked at Den and smiled weakly, he was always there for him when he was young, helping him out when he did stupid things. He used to talk to Jake when Adam made mistakes, telling him that the boy was young, that his parents died when he was just a kid and that he should loosen up a bit. He was there when Jake threatened Adam and refused to give him money because Adam wanted to be an artist, he loved drawing and painting, he was good actually. However Jake refused and they fought about it all the time. Finally Den suggested that Adam should do what Jake wanted and also do what he wanted; he’d obey Jake and at the same time would draw secretly. And that was how his life went, he studied business so he could take over after Jake and at the same time he became a well known artist. At the time Jake finally found out about it, Adam’s paintings were famous and very expensive. Jake finally agreed but with conditions, that Adam would keep his studying -because when Jake died he was supposed to take over- and he could do what he wanted. So he lived like that, studying business in the morning and drawing at night.

When he was about nineteen, Adam started having relationships with wrong girls, and eventually he decided that there was nothing called love and that he was going to marry any rich girl so that she wouldn’t be after his money and still be good for him in public.

He met Celina when he was twenty-two, she was the daughter of a well known business man, and she matched everything he wanted. So after going out for two years he proposed and they’d been engaged for a year and a half now and were supposed to get married in spring.

‘It seems we have to change the date and postpone it for eternity!’ Adam thought, ‘If I’m going to spend the rest of my life with any woman I think I would choose Cairo. I’ll never get bored from her, she’s such a challenge!’ he thought with a smile.

“I wonder what brought that smile to your face.” Den asked as he patted Adam’s shoulder.

“Nothing, I’m just gonna have to start convincing little Ms. Cairo that our marriage is not such a bad idea!” He said as his smile grew wider.

“Meg thinks I’m crazy for blowing away such an opportunity.” Cairo screamed as she ran to the dance floor with Luke behind her.

“You’ll be crazy if you’re thinking about considering this… I don’t know what to call it.” Luke said out loud as he watched Cairo sway with the music playing loud in the club. She looked gorgeous, with her waist-length hair curled up to reach her shoulders, her somehow striking make-up and her dark red tank top and very short black skirt. She was tantalizingly gorgeous.

“Then don’t! Just dance.” She shouted over the loud music.

Luke just shook his head and thought that he really needed a drink right now, “I’ll go get us something to drink.” He shouted as he turned around heading for the bar.

Luke leaned on the bar and ordered their drinks. He was waiting for the bartender when he felt someone pat his shoulders. Turning around he saw someone he never expected to see.

“Alice!”

“Luke! How are you?” She asked and he smiled as he heard her voice.

“Fine,” Luke answered with an astonished look, “no need to ask about you, you look fantastic.” He said as his gaze traveled over her body.

“Yeah? Lost some weight,” she blushed.

“You look great Alice.” Luke mumbled again, “What are you doing here?” he was still surprised by her sudden appearance. He hadn’t seen her for about three years. Three whole years, she used to be his girlfriend. Ever since they were fifteen, she was the girl next door, he’d had a crush on her for so long and when they finally got together she didn’t quite accept his relationship with Cairo. Luke loved Cay so much that when Alice finally made him choose he chose Cay’s friendship. They were only sixteen and right after that Alice left town with her parents and he never heard from her again.

“I came back,” she answered and her blue eyes sparkled in the lights of the club.

“Back? I mean, for good?” He asked taking in this new information.

“Yeah, I didn’t quite like it there.”

“Hey, what is taking you so long?” Cairo screamed from behind Alice.

Luke looked at Alice and immediately her expression changed. But to his surprise she smiled at Cairo.

“Alice!” Cairo shouted as Alice turned around to look at her, “You’re Alice right?” she asked surprisingly, ‘she looks good!’ Cairo thought as she stood there looking at the other girl. She never hated Alice, but the girl never gave her a chance. She was always jealous of her and Cairo had always wondered why, ‘It’s not like I was Luke’s girlfriend or something!’

Giggling softly Alice answered “Yeah it’s me, how are you Cay?!” she asked in a cheerful way that made both Luke and Cairo stare silently at her.

“Fine.” Cairo answered casually trying not to embarrass herself, “how are you Alice?”

“Fine, well sorry guys, I’ve to go back to my friends. It’s good seeing you Cay!” she said still smiling, then turned to Luke whose mouth was opened a little in amazement, “It’s nice seeing you again Luke!” she said soft.

“Yeah, you too!”

“Ah… hey Mr. do you have a pen?” Alice shouted at the bartender and he handed her one with a wide smile, “thank you!” she smiled back and turned to Luke, “Here’s my number,” she wrote her number on his hand, “Now tell me yours, and I’ll call you.”

He wrote his number on her hand and she said goodbyes and left.

“This can’t possibly be the old Alice.” Cairo said as she accepted her drink from the still surprised Luke.

“Huh?” He asked suddenly.

“I said… you know what, it doesn’t matter, let’s go dancing!”

Luke followed Cairo back to the dance floor thinking, ‘If I wasn’t in love with Cay, I would have gone after Alice!’

I'm continuin this story because I think some people like it. Well I donno why it' so confusing, but I hope this one made it a bit clearer.

Answering Nikki's question; they are not 1st cousins. They share the same grandfather, but that don't make them 1st cousins. I think!
