Chapter summary : It’s a quiet night for Shandaar and friends…

Author’s notes: Well here’s another chapter! Mostly character development, so no big revelations in this chapter, sorry ^^;. They’re gonna start next one though, but in order not to spoil, I won’t say anything. Thanks to my reviewers! I thought about replying to my reviewers, but since this fic is archived in other places and making author notes’ for all the places I post it, I’ll give up on it ^^;. Yet I’m very thankful for the reviews, and all the happy bla-bla that goes with it ^_^.

Take Me Away
Chapter 03 – The Calm Before The Storm

A few men and women sat at a table, waiting for another one of their own to come. The redheaded woman constantly looked outside the window with a murder look on her pretty face. She couldn’t be more than 25 years old. Just like most of her family, she was a sword fighter, and a good one as well. Her emerald eyes darted at the door as it opened. “So there you are, Kordell. Like we weren’t waiting for you. Where you been?” she asked, more annoyed than relieved, even thought it had already been three days he was gone.

The man sat beside her, eyeing her from the corner of his eyes. “Where you asked me, Karali. I followed the pests around, and guess where they leaded me? Kadessa Castle. Maybe the rumors are true after all. I haven’t seen the prince fighting, nor do I really wish do, especially if it’s against me…”

“Someone will have to anyways. Maybe it’s time to recruit. Who the hell knows what he could do to us? If we’re not enough, we’re not gonna last it. And we need to if we want to overthrow the Kandis.”

“But it’s going to take us weeks, maybe years!”

The woman sighed and rolled her eyes. Men were always about war, and wanted everything right away. “Well then let’s take weeks or years. It’s going to take much more than a simple army to defeat him, if everything is true. In order to rule, we’ll have to get rid of him and survive. And the gods know it’s not gonna be a child’s play”.

Kordell sighed as well. “Then we better get prepared and find more people, as well as covers. Think we can really go ahead and say that Shandaar Kandi, heir of the throne of the Kadessa Empire, is not the sweet young man they know? That he’s got magic powers in his favour? No, it’s not gonna work. Hence the cover. And you know how we’re gonna do it?”

“How?” she asked, bringing her long hair into a ponytail. The bangs in her face were getting annoying as well.

“That’s where that little info I got in Kadessa comes handy. Apparently he has a lover already, and it’s not a girl.” A few “Oh’s” and “aw’s” were heard around the table. It was rather big news coming from Kordell. That could simplify a few things for them.

“So people might not take that fact well, thus we’ll get some allies on our side? Wait… If we corner him somewhere he’s not gonna be seen, no one will know about his hidden powers, the Kandis will be out after the Queen’s death – something that can be arranged as well – and we’ll have our way to domination. Nice job brother.” She patted the man on the back with a smile. “Together, we’re going to rule over this land.”

-

And back at the castle. This time, there had been a few guards to avoid, but they had still done it. Raya and Dagmar had gone back to the inn, while Kieran had gone back with Shandaar. The man was acting somewhat differently, and he knew it wasn’t because of the single buck of alcohol he had. It had to be something else. Maybe it was regarding the so-called “information” the giant had told them about? If only it had been LESS crowded, for once. He’d have to ask him tomorrow, when he’d go back. In an attempt at diverting his prince’s attention, he walked over him and hugged him tight. “Did you enjoy the night?”

“Yes, it was nice. Too bad it didn’t last longer. Next time, we should leave sooner so we’d have more time.” The long blue shirt Shandaar had been wearing went down, revealing his muscled chest. He felt relaxed, yet there was something bothering him. Some guys knew something about him that they weren’t supposed to know… but what was it? Maybe it was something he wasn’t even aware of! Although due to his status, almost nothing was hidden to him. As he’s unable to spot anything, he simply shakes the feeling off. After all, it was maybe just bluffing. “So, did you like it?”

“Had fun, but when I’m with you, everything’s fun. I think even torture wouldn’t be torture if you were there.”

“Oh don’t push it too far. You’re not going more sex tonight” the silver-haired heir added, grinning as he took a seat in a chair. He watched as Kieran chuckled and literally sat on him, causing him to flinch and laugh as well. “I’m stronger than I look.”

“Hence why I did that.” He brought the younger male into a deep kiss and wrapped his arms around the shoulders. “Want me to sleep here tonight?”

Shandaar chuckled and shook his head. “You don’t have to, you know? Not that I don’t want you around.”

“No, it’s not you. It’s Ethan that doesn’t want me around you.” The adventurer got up and shrugged. Ethan was quite something when it came to Shandaar. Maybe he should watch the man more while he was in the area. “Think he knows about us?”

“I would not be surprised at all. After all, he has the means to do it.”

“Well… you probably have the means to stop him.”

There was a nod, but he knew as well that when it concerned his safety, there would be no chance to take, and Ethan took his role seriously, even too much at times. However, he knew better than getting in the Prince’s room without proper warning. “As long as he doesn’t do anything bad to you, we will have to deal with this. But please, if he has ever- ”

“No, no, don’t worry. He hasn’t threatened me or anything, I swear. At some point I can even agree with him, you need the best.”

“What he doesn’t get is that YOU are the best for me.” The silver-haired got up from his seat and walked up to his friend, this time being the one who wrapped his arms around the other shoulders. His bright blue eyes met with the brown ones in front of him. I love you, Kieran. No one else could replace you in my heart.” He resumed the kiss, resting his head on the broad shoulders. In order to change topic – this was getting too mushy – he backs off a bit, still remaining in the embrace. “So, have you decided on what to do?”

“I’m going to head back soon. I don’t wanna cause you anymore troubles. If they know you took off in the middle of the night to take a beer with commoners, what would happen?”

Shandaar lifted his eyes to the ceiling, deep in thought. “I wouldn’t get in trouble. I think I would get a “this is not an attitude a prince should have” type of lecture, but that should be al. However, I can’t decide what you should do. Will you come back tomorrow? We could spar in the fields.”

“That’s a good idea. I’ll bring my sword.” One more kiss, this time on the prince’s forehead, and he parted from the man’s arms, wishing he hadn’t decided to get back. He could have stayed there eternally. Damn the fact Shandaar was under surveillance even though he was past majority. “I’ll be back at around 10:00 in the morning… will you be up?”

The prince nodded again. Since he had slept earlier, he’d need a less sleep, and could easily get up in a few hours from now. He watched as his boyfriend gets out by the balcony door, closing the curtains behind him with a sad sigh. He had gotten used to Kieran’s long absences from the kingdom, but it was always hard to see him go, even though they were to meet the next morning.

After a short moment at the window, he went back to his bed, getting rid of his pants on his way. Bangs of silver hair were getting on his nerves and in order to distract himself from the detail, he picks up the book from his end table. It was a novel about a young commoner falling in love with a prince; much like his own love story. The difference is that both were found before their 20th birthday and ended up killed. It wasn’t the first time he had read it, and wouldn’t be the last. He had found the book in the library. Knowing on the religion’s point of view on homosexuality, it was almost a miracle that such a document had been there. Maybe in another country same-sex relationships were considered normal, but as far as he had heard by Kieran, it wasn’t the case, sadly.

He didn’t read for long before falling asleep, not caring too much that he was on top of his comforter.

-

Kieran didn’t like leaving Shandaar like that. Of course he was safe in the castle, but he had figured out he could have stayed with him. At least he wouldn’t have heard Dagmar snoring, or Raya talking in her sleep. Sometimes he wondered if the girl was a sleepwalker. Talking about the two, here they were, each on their own bed. The giant was cleaning and polishing his axe, while the thieving female was writing to a friend. “Hey guys I’m back!”

“Well I’m surprised, boy. Thought you’d have stayed there in order to… y’know… get some more?” Dagmar replied, putting his axe down for a second. “You haven’t seen him in two months and you’re back already.” He flicked his tongue and picked up the axe again, resuming his work on it. “I’m gonna get this baby as sharp as a razorblade.”

“Oh don’t worry for them! When I got to check where he was, I found them in each other’s arms, naked. Shandaar had his dose” Raya stated, chewing the end of the pen she was using. That would be a good anecdote!

The adventurer shook his head. Did everyone need to make fun of their situation? “Okay, okay, stop messing with me. What did you do since I was gone?”

“Well we got here about what… an hour ago? I wrote a letter to mom and dad! They’re gonna be so happy! And Dagmar messed with his axe the whole time. Better that than his dick, when you think about it.” She got a death look from the blonde and lifted her free hand in the air in defeat, then went back to her letter.

For a moment, Kieran suspected the two of them of being together, but he very quickly shook this head out of his head. Too many bad thoughts, it was almost scary. That little girl and the massive man Dagmar was? No way. Plus the latter was happily married.

“I should write to my wife. Bet ya my ankle biters would love to hear what their daddy was up to!” He raised his head and grinned, happy. “What ya think about that?”

“Doesn’t sound like a bad idea to me. Drop the weapon and pick up the pen!” The black-haired man jumped on his bed and took off his boots, then his chest plate with a yawn. “Don’t think I’ll stay awake much longer. I told Shandaar I’d show up this morning at 10. So I got about 6 hours of sleep. G’night all!” With this, he slid below the blankets, snuggling in them. He missed the other body again his.
