Chapter Four
Title: Silken Sheets
Author: GraeyexDesires
AN: The story idea does belong to me, as do the characters. Though I\'ll be happy to lend them out! ::Grin.:: To Ash, I believe it\'s just the way I right, but I can\'t be certain since I love AB:VH books!

Adrian led me down the hallway, his back rigged as if he were angry at someone. Hah, namely me. We seemed to move in a maze of stares and hidden passageways and pretty soon I lost sense of direction. Just as I thought we would go on forever he paused in front of an elaborately engraved door. Glancing back at him he flashed a smile that almost made me want to bite him again.
\"Ready to meet your master?\"
Before I could say anything he opened the door to user me in. As I glanced at the engravings I could\'ve sworn that the eyes belonging to the leopard near the center of the door shifted to watch me. I shivered a bit, then turned to study the room. Sheer black and emerald draperies hung from the ceiling, making a small little maze inside the room. I heard a sigh come from Adrian and I suppose that he was a little tired of the whole maze scene.
\"Come closer, ma petite.\"
I growled and before I could tell the small child-like voice not to call me that a hand was over my mouth. Adrian\'s face filled my view, a single finger over his pursed lips in a silence gesture. I arched an eyebrow at him but nodded my head to tell him that I would keep my mouth closed.
\"I said come closer.\"
I almost winced at the anger strung through his words. As Adrian pushed me through the maze of drapes I rolled my eyes. Great, he had the body of a child and the attitude of one too. Through two curtains I could see the vague outline of two people standing in front of what seemed like a window. But that couldn\'t quite be right because vampires couldn\'t stand to be in light. Separating the curtains Adrian stepped through, holding them open for me as well. I raised my eyebrow at the sight before me.
The \"child\" vampire and the vamp I had intened on killing early last night were standing before a large box light. You know, the ones doctors use to show her where you\'ve made a bad boo boo inside of you body. The thought alone made me chuckle, even though this was anything but a laughable situation. The bigger vamp was on his knees before the \"child\" but he wore only his pants, his chest was a mass of bloody slashed criss-crossing mercilessly over flesh. One one cheek, the one that was facing me there was a cut that was obviously new becuase crimson blood just began to well inside of it.
\"Come closer, my petit, or perhaps you are just a little afraid of vampires?\"
Before I could come up a sharp retort to that the skin on either side of the wound on the vamp\'s face started to knit together, healing before my eyes. My awe must have shown in my eyes because the little one near me moved clower, chuckling as he invaded my comfort zone.
\"Or perhaps that it is that you don\'t spend half as much time with corpses as you wish us to believe.\"
A small smiled appeared on my lips. \"I spend more times with corpses then you were alive in you human sense.\"
It wasn\'t a complete lie, and it even rose a snarl in the wee one. A late cousin of m family used to own a local morgue when we still lived in New York and during the weekends and during the summer ever since I was thirteen. I know it wasn\'t completely legal but it was still a paying job. And what someone doesn\'t know won\'t hurt them right? Ever since I had become a vamp hunter, still \"in the closet\" mind you, I haven\'t gotten to see a corpse that often, walking or otherwise.
An arrogant look crossed the small \"boy\"s face. \"So I understand that you and Nickolas are close and of some relation.\"
I looked down at the man kneeling close by, taking him to be Nickolas. I knew if I told him that I knew nothing of Nickolas nor was I in relation to him that I would be worthless and they would probably kill me off. Even though I had one mark attached to me I could die and not drag the little vamp down with me. Bummer, huh?
\"Maybe, maybe not.\" I glanced down at my hand as if I were studying my fingernails.
\"Well I think you\'re bluffing.\"
I almost smiled when that little boy whinning attitude showed up again but calmed it down when something tickled against the shields I had placed firmly up. Slowly I lowered them, letting a small voice tickle into my mind. |My real name is Keenan.| I fought hard not to look at the formaly named Nickolas.
\"Well I\'m not, me and Keenan go way back.\" I let a light teasing lit fill my voice, perhaps making him a bit mad.
A low male chuckle came from Keenan and all I saw of the little vamp boy was a blur of color as he did something to knock him over, sending him sprawling across the floor and near my feet. Instinctively I leaned down, brushing locks of hair away from his face so I could see him better. I didn\'t help him up or ask him if he was okay because I still didn\'t know if Keenan was in line with the powerful little vamp. |I would never stand behind or beside Jakob in anyhting,| the voice again slipped through my mind, |and I try not to betray people at all costs.| This, for some strange reason, conjured the image of a vampire standing in the sunlight, the peace of God upon them. This, in turn, caused me to chuckle, raising the inner child in Jakob, the little vampire.
\"What\'s so funny?\"
When I did not answer, but simply looked up at him with, laughing-tears in my eyes he nodded at someone behind me. I suspected it was Adrian because as far as I had seened we had been the only four people in here. Something heavy slamned into the side of my head and I wished I could\'ve known what it was because it hurt like hell. Colors danced acrossed my eyes and I knew that I would probably pass out. I was tired of passing out. Just I was opening my mouth to say so my eyes fluttered and I slipped into oblivion.
