Justin felt his breath catch as Desimir asked him out to dinner, was he asking him out on a date? Then he heard the fateful words - wife, girlfriend. Holding in a longsuffering sigh, he considered if he wanted to turn it about to his advantage. This wasn’t the time to dilly dally over such a choice.

So being decisive for once in his life, he smiled and looked back up at Desimir, “No wife. No girlfriend. Are you asking me out on a date handsome?”

The smile turned to one of smug satisfaction as he watched Desimir’s jaw drop, and those warm eyes widen. For once the self-assured man seemed to be at a loss for words, “A…A….A date? Well, um, I, uh, was just asking if you wanted to, like, catch dinner or something, perhaps drinks afterwards, I don’t know if you would consider it at date, but ah…”

Justin turned on the charm, closing the laptop and leaning on the top, blue eyes twinkling in merriment, taking a chance, “So you don’t think I’m cute enough to go out on a date with?”

“No. No! That’s not it, I, uh, well, you see…”

“Have a boyfriend already who would get insanely jealous if we went out for dinner?” interrupted Justin. Justin was shocked at himself, he was acting like one of the characters in his story, not at all like his normal self, but he knew that he didn’t want to lose this man. Not now, not yet, not ever.

Desimir was in complete shock when Justin asked him if it was a date or not, then followed it all up by calling him handsome. “A…A….A date? Well, um, I, uh, was just asking if you wanted to, like, catch dinner or something, perhaps drinks afterwards, I don’t know if you would consider it at date, but ah…”

Why, oh why, couldn’t he get his mouth working properly? He was normally so poised and confident; this wasn’t like him at all. He was supposed to be the aggressor, making the move on Justin. He swallowed hard seeing those glimmering blue eyes that he’d been fantasizing about focus on him, laughter and promise mixed in their depths, he was in trouble.

“So you don’t think I’m cute enough to go out on a date with?”

Oh no, that was NOT what he wanted Justin to think, for in all honesty, he found the man very attractive. He couldn’t be listed in the cute category, it just didn’t fit him, cute was reserved for children and animals, and he was neither. But with the slightly shaggy brown hair, locks falling into his face, and those startlingly blue eyes, he was definitely attractive, falling over into the drop-dead gorgeous category, but that would be saved for when he saw Justin naked to make that final determination.

“No. No! That’s not it, I, uh, well, you see…” came his quick reply even as the thoughts flashed through his head, but he was interrupted before he could continue, and his jaw dropped even farther than it had when Justin first asked if they had a date.

“No, no...uh…boyfriend,” Desimir swallowed, reaching for the glass of water that the waitress had brought with their coffee’s. The cool liquid quenched the sudden burning dryness in his throat and he continued. “No boyfriend in the picture.”

If he was in for a penny, he might as well be in for a pound, why not just admit it and get it over? “There hasn’t been a boyfriend in the picture for quite a while. A couple guys who would like to fill the spot, but until recently I hadn’t met anyone who really caught my eye.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Oh dear, the man had all but admitted that he was gay, it was like an unexpected wet dream. It was Justin’s turn to feel his jaw drop. The teasing manner went right out the window. “So it is kinda like a date?”

His heart slowed as Desimir slowly nodded, “Yeah, it’s like a date.” Desimir’s hand reached out slowly to rest over Justin’s, fingers stroking slowly as those caramel orbs locked onto Justin’s, causing his heart to actually skip a beat at the next phrase, “It is a date, if you want it to be.”

If he wanted it to be? How could the man even think he didn’t want it? But, he couldn’t appear to eager now, so he chose his words carefully, “I would like that, thank you.”

Justin could see the relief and joy in Desimir’s eyes, “Wonderful, how does DeLallo’s sound? That lil Italian place down on Race St?”

“Sounds wonderful,” replied Justin, his delight just as obvious, “Shall I meet you there or…?” Once again slightly shy he let his words trail off.

“How about we meet there?” Desimir said with a smile, laughter in his tone as he continued, “That way in case things go sour we can just leave. Not that I think they well, just in case, ya know?”

Justin nodded, “Seven o’clock then? Will that give you enough time to finish up at your office?”

Giving one last stroke to Justin’s hand, Desimir nodded and stood, “Plenty if I leave now. Take care Justin, I’ll see you at seven.”

Justin watched as Desimir tossed a ten on the table to cover the tab and left, smiling happily to himself as he saw the other man look back before heading out of the door. “Until seven…” came the soft whisper.

There, it was out, his preferences, now he only hoped that Justin felt the same way about him. Nodding slowly, “Yeah, it’s like a date.” Reaching out slowly to rest his hand over Justin’s, fingers stroking slowly as locked eyes with Justin’s, “It is a date, if you want it to be.”

“I would like that, thank you,” came Justin’s response, and Desimir felt relief and joy wash through him.

“Wonderful, how does DeLallo’s sound? That lil Italian place down on Race St?” It was the best place he could think of on the spot, not too fancy, but nice for a first date with a handsome man.

“Sounds wonderful,” replied Justin, his delight just as obvious as his own, “Shall I meet you there or…?”

“How about we meet there?” Desimir said with a smile, laughter in his tone as he continued, “That way in case things go sour we can just leave. Not that I think they well, just in case, ya know?”

He knew that things wouldn’t go sour, but incase Justin changed his mind, Desimir wanted him to have a way out if he felt like he had to go.

Justin nodded, “Seven o’clock then? Will that give you enough time to finish up at your office?”

Giving one last stroke to Justin’s hand, Desimir nodded and stood, “Plenty if I leave now. Take care Justin, I’ll see you at seven.”

A smile seemingly permanently attached to his face, he left a ten on the table and turned to leave for his office. He glanced back at the table where he’d been sitting, just to reassure himself that it hadn’t all been a dream, and sitting there was one of the most handsome men he’d seen outside of the movie screen, watching him leave. All was right with the world at this time.
