Guardian Angel

Artifical Rose

Chapter 4 ~Guardian Angel~

“To be healed....one must forgive and forget ones actions...”

That night played itself over within Marcus’s mind, even as he lay in the ambulance that took him to the hospital. Trying to see if he could have done anything different, yet in the end it all went down to the fact that tomanoman that was firing at them and the woman that had kicked him in the chest looked the same in that black outfit... and in the end he had shot and even in the cruelest of logic he most likely killed her. His job was to protect the innocent from people like them, though through his actions he had become one just like the criminals that he fought against. People would say that it wasn’t his fault, but how would her family react? they would forever blame him for there daughters death and that would just increase the grief that he himself would place upon himself, for there could have been another way.

Marcus lay in relative silence as the doctors checked him for fractures or any other types of injuries from the pain that he described. The doctor told him to cheer up and that he should be happy that it was only a few bruised ribs. Marcus mustered a smile as he thanked the doctor and walked out of the emergency room. Life itself seemed different now, he had shot others before and he didn’t feel any different, for they deserved what the recieved... though in this situation he had killed an innocent person who was only following what she was told to do as it was against her will... if he had known.

Victoria saw Marcus as she quickly walked up to him and placed her arms around him, Marcus winced in pain as Victoria quickly loosened her arms and took a step back. “Sorry... are you alright?” Marcus nodded as they walked to where Victoria had parked the Jeep as she had followed the ambulance when they brought Marcus here, there was a relative sileas Vas Victoria drove towards their apartment. Victoria would take a glance over at him from time to time as she noticed a sort of hollowness to his persona.

Marcus’s cellphone rang as he picked it up “Marcus speaking...” Luke’s voice was heard even though the connection was slightly static “Hey partner...whats up?” Marcus watched the dark shapes of the scenery pass him by “Nothing...just...nothing, so whats up?” Luke laughed “Just wanted to check up on ya and tell ya some good news” Marcus took a glance over at Victoria as she returned the glance with a smile “ Whats this good new of yours?” Luke voice muffled for awhile before Marcus could hear him “Sorry bout that...anyway, the Sarg told me to tell you that you got two weeks of paid leave, due to injury and that other thing...” There was silence before Luke would continue “...but cheer up and don’t try to beat yourself up over this, you didn’t know and if I were in your situation I would have done the exact same thing.” Marcus leaned back as he closed his eyes “...thanks for telling me, yeah I know...but...nevermind, thanks again. I’ll see ya then” They said there goodbyes as Marcus lay there in the seat, thin iin in his
chest throbbed though from the bruised ribs or his fallen heart he knew not. “Could you tell Victoria?” Victoria glanced over at Marcus as she continued to drive “Marcus...don’t beat yourself up” Marcus sighed as he repeated himself, as he wanted to know what she thought... wether right or wrong, he wanted her side. “I couldn’t tell...I only heard the shots being fired and I would have done the same, it’s alright” Marcus sat up as Victoria drove into the underground parking lot of the apartment building. “Maybe your
right...but I just feel so drained.” Victoria parked the car as they both got out, heading to the open elevator. As they both got inside and pressed there floor, she grasped his hand and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Lets just get some sleep tonight ok?” Marcus nodded as the elevator doors closed.
