The Grace of a Sprite

Flowers Under the Moon
Chapter 3: The Grace of a Sprite

She sighs as she knows she has to go do what the Prince asked. However, that might be harder than simply doing it. His temper, seen in his son as well, will fuel what she must ask. But it has to be done, as facing Damascus without doing what she was asked to do would be worse. Slowly she makes a white portal for only herself to pass through and goes to the palace, trying to find her courage in her wings.

"My King," a servant addresses as he enters the great hall. The King sits in a silver chair and looks out at the servant who enters his hall. The marble floors make the footsteps click across the floor and the walls almost make the place seem hallow. "The wood sprite Faylinn to see you."

King Zander raises an eyebrow at the name but shakes his head. 'Will he never stay out of trouble?' is what he thinks as he closes his eyes, wondering how bad this will be. "Send her in immediately." He nods to his advisors. "I am sorry, but I must take this meeting. She would not come unless there was something terribly wrong." His advisors nod in agreement and leave just as Faylinn walks in.

She waits before all of his advisors leave before speaking. "Zander, there is a problem."

He chuckles and stands up, walking over to her. "I knew that when they first announced your name to me. What is the problem?"

"The enemy has taken Rachel," she says as he stops, the moonlight falling on both of them in different pools. Zander just shakes his head no right before she was about to voice her question. "But Zander, you must allow..."

"If you understand one thing about this, you know that I cannot. If he leaves your protection, do you understand what will happen? The shapeshifters will come after him as well as others of your kind. He is my only heir and I need him to stay safe."

"He will leave anyway, and you know that. And you will be the worse for it because he will hate you for it. Why will you not let him do this? He can take on all that you talk about and he knows how to heal. Why are you against it?" And that is all she can ask before a royal blue portal opens up to the throne room with Damascus stepping out of it. He looks from Faylinn to his father, as she shakes her head no.

"Father--"

"I know what you wish to ask for Damascus. We were just speaking about it." He sighs and looks to his only son, the only one who will be ato cto carry on what he leaves behind. "Even though I do not wish you to go because of the dangers that lie ahead," he silences the thought on Damascus' lips with a single move of his hand. "I know what she means to you, so go. But I wish you to take some things with you." Faylinn steps back as an orange glow covers Zander, the glow going more into his hands as he sends power over to Damascus. The feeling of more power and understanding flows through his veins. He looks to Zander for understanding but Zander shakes his head no. "You will learn in time."

"But how am I to help Rachel if I do not even know what my powers are?"

"When you need them, you will understand how to use them, my son," he says as he walks back to the throne. He whispers something that makes stone move that no one could move before. "And also, take this," he says as he walks back to his son.

Damascus nods, opening the box slowly. Inside are two silver katars, perfect and ready to kill. Putting both on his hands, he makes sure they fit and the air is filled with the sound of the blade hissing through the air. He stops after a minute or two and bows to his father. "Thank you."

Zander lifts his son's chin up to look into his eyes. "Ride fast, ride hard. Make your strike true and bring back the one you love." Damascus nods and opens up the portal again that he came from. Faylinn leaves with him as the place becomes quiet again.
