Chapter 4
The Assembly
The
Assembly was made up completely of humans, the same humans who took Koshi in an
attempt toure ure out what made him the way he was. They met once a month, sometimes more, but each member was
required to make a contribution to the cause.
The room where they met was a simple one, access terminals sat along the
wall opposite the door. The door itself
wasctroctronically sealed, which required a passkey and the correct combination
of numbers to open. Each member of the
Assembly was marked with a black tattoo in the shape of a strange bird.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> It sat at the base of the left shoulder
blade. Even Koshi had been marked,
although he didn’t know it and Seiyoku had taken the time to remove it the
first time he had passed out. For
fifteen years they had held Koshi and they still weren’t any closer to any
answers to their questions. They still
didn’t know what made vampires the way they were, didn’t know why they craved
blood, or needed the substance to live.
Because they had sealed Koshi’s memories they had also sealed his
abilities, since they had done that they couldn’t discover what gave them their
powers or even to what extent those powers went. Their monthly meeting was in progress and it wasn’t going
well. They were having an argument,
with Koshi’s ‘parents’ being the instigators.
“You
can’t just expect us to give up on and forget about Koshi.” Sakkaku, Koshi’s
‘mother’, said in exasperation, “To our knowledge he still hasn’t awakened yet,
we can still get him back before Seiyoku has a chance to do anything to him.”
A man
dressed all in black with salt and pepper hair sat at the head of the table, he
looked annoyed, “Yes Sakkaku, we can.
As long as he is sealed we cannot discover much of anything.style="mso-span: yn: yes"> For fifteen years we found nothing out, he
was as good to us as any normal human, except he wouldn’t age.” His name was
Musha and he was one of the leaders of the Assembly.
She
sighed, “I just don’t like it, I don’t think it’s right to just leave him in
Seiyoku’s grasp. If we could get him to
join us, to be loyal to us, then we would have a powerful ally.”
“Sakkaku’s
right, I don’t think it would be good to just leave him there.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Besides who knows what Seiyoku’s going to do
to him.” Koshi’s ‘father’, Jinrai, said calmly.
Musha
looked over at him, “I understand your feelings but you know just as well as I
do that Seiyoku will not give him up.
It was difficult enough to get him the first time.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> We cannot make Seiyoku ill the way we made
Koshi, I doubt that we would be able to make Koshi sick again, I’m sure his
body has adapted. We must not go into
this too quickly, we must be careful and take our time.” He paused, “Dealing
with Seiyoku and the others like him has always been our top priority but we
have been going into things far too quickly.
We need to step back for awhile.”
“We have
to get him back!” Sakkaku said angrily, “I will not just stand back and watch
as Koshi is awakened and becomes the vicious creature he once was.”
“He
wasn’t vicious.” Jinrai said calmly, “Now be quite Sakkaku.” He said, looking
over at her, “Do you know anything about awakening?” He asked Musha.
“No, no
one knows much about vampires. I think
we need to gather more information before going after Seiyoku or anyone
else. Would you like to be in charge of
that Jinrai? You have a lot of
experience in dealing with inhuman creatures.”
Jinrai
nodded, “Yes, I’m willing to do so.
Just tell me what exactly you would like me to investigating.” He
paused, “I would also like Sakkaku to do something else, to be kept out of the
field. She has been rushing into
things, almost got the two of us killed when we went after Koshi.”
Musha
nodded, “I understand.” He turned to Sakkaku, “You will remain here and assist
me, “Am I understood?”
“Yes.”
She said calmly, “I understand.”
“Good,
then it’s settled, Jinrai I shall speak with you about this task later.”
He
nodded, “Yes sir.”
“In the
mean time why don’t we all enjoy dinner?” He said with a smile.
