Chapter 34
Mammon watched as the newly formed John Aaron stood, weilding his new blade. He gazed to it, almost admiringly. Mammon was seething on the inside however. How dare those insolant little worms think they can turn the tide of this battle against me... John then stood ready, his blade poised to strike, his wings streaching out. "You think you can withstand my power!?" Mammon angrily shouted, weilding his own blade, channeling it with dark magic. He rushed forward, intent on running this fool of a human through.
Unfortunately, this 'fool' had become something far from human.
John raised his blade in defense, both striking. Light and dark battled for superiority as Mammon pushed constantly with his weapon. John was equally pushing back with his own force. Mammon then used his second hand to grip the blade as well, hoping the force would be enough. It was instead his fatal mistake. John instantly raised a hand and shouted "Aqua Burst!" A torrent of water rushed up and struck Mammon knocking him away, but otherwise not doing much damage. Instantly John moved in, his newly formed wings lifting him from the ground and allowing him greater movement. "Take this!"
He swung his blade, to which Mammon was now the one defending. But John wasn't about to try and overpower him now. As soon as he found the opening, he pulled back and swung again, to which Mammon once more defended with his own blade. For a few minutes, the darkness was broken by the sounds of metal clashing and the sparks of energy that seemed to discharge with each clash. Finally, Mammon knocked John back by adding more power to his sword, yet still had yet to visibly hurt him. It was a standstill.
But not for long apparently, for Mamon began to glow with more dark energy. "Heh... hope you're enjoying your newfound strength, because it won't last. The longer you take to defeat me, the more power I unlock from the Forbidden Seal and more adapt my body becomes to using it. Soon I won't have any limits at all." John gave a scowl, his own golden eyes flashing something that seemed like annoyance. He knew that Mammon was right, he could only get stronger from here on out. He had to finish this quickly.
John focused quickly, his own sword held upright so that it appeared to be dividing his body into two halves. Immediately the circle of fire appeared once more, though this time it was much quicker for the pheonix to form. "Pheonix Flare!" Immediately the firebird opened it's mouth and unleashed it's torrent of flames towards Mammon, who raised his hand in defense. The flames spread around him, bending to his will, and as the last of the fire died away, he was surprised to see John close up sword ready to strike. He pulled away in time to avoid a fatal blow, but not fast enough to escape the blade from slicing open skin. Blood poured out of a cut on his right cheek.
Mammon gripped the wound, feeling the warmth of blood there. And for a moment, he was paralyzed with shock. No one had ever wounded him before, and the fact that this mere human could do it... it unnerved him to no end. John had pulled away again, ready to strike and Mammon was now no longer going to be satified with just killing this human... he would rip and tear him apart, limb from limb, starting with those wings. He charged his energy, bringing forth the four elements into one again. "That's it... no more messing around. Dark Matter!"
He broke the dark orb of energy and smiled when the spell cast, blasting John from beneath him. John once again screamed in sgony from the force of the spell, stronger then the last. Yet still he held on, his new wings wrapping around him protectively. When the spell was finished he unfurled his wings, streaching them to their furthest reach. John was feeling weakened by the spells, and he was certain he had to continue to fight this battle. If only... I could heal myself... just a little... No sooner then he wished it, his wings covered themselves in a soft golden glow. Healing magic was flowing through them and John was stunned a bit to find that most of his exhaustion was gone.
"Oh for the love of..." Mammon muttered, angered. Now what? He can use Angelic healing magic... no choice then. I have to kill him now and fast. I may be getting stronger as time goes by, but every moment is a chance he can kill me. "Alright, time for my strongest spell... you should be grateful, I've only ever used this once before... and that was when I first learned it." Energy began to gather into his body, as he channeled his magic, the four elements binding and twisting. He held out his right hand, gripping it tightly by the wrist with his other to keep it steady. A ball of fire began to gather into his palm, until it became one of water, then wind, then earth. Each element continued to shift, until it became a solid mass of energy, mended elements trashing against each other. "Element Breaker!"
The ball of energy became enveloped in dark power as Mammon charged. And even as he continued this charge, he kept pushing even more and more energy into the spell, his hand holding it shaking violently as the compacted energy sphere tried to force it's own release. Damn... no way I can even come close to copying that... I don't have the experience. But I have one spell that can possibly... Suddenly a screech was heard and he saw the pheonix, still with him. "Forgot all about... yeah! Alright, time to see if this will work!"
John raised his hand gathering fire magic. The pheonix rested itself on his palm, before becoming an egg shaped ball of fire, helping him fuel the attack. His wings unfurled once more and he rushed forward. Mom... dad... I'll show this being he can't use our family secrets to mess with this world... "Phoenix Fire Bomb!"
"Fool! No matter what you do, it will never be over! Even if you could kill this body, my true self is still alive, waiting for that acursed seal to break... time will cause it to crumble, no matter what you do!"
Both energies clashed, each one of them pushing the conflicting magic together. A brilliant light burst forth enveloping them and breaking through the darkness...
"Mammon... no matter what happens... as long as you exist there will be those who will be able to defeat you..."
A large castle, somewhere in the sky. Once more, John found himself in a world of his dreams, watching hallway after hallway build themselves and end abruptly. White stones, black stones, each one set another new passage in time. "Where am I?"
"The Time Hall." John turned to find the same youth who he had just unleashed his spell on. Yet he seemed different somehow... more peaceful. He gave a small smile. "I don't know how you got here, but..."
"Wait. So... this is the real you?"
"Yes. This world here... is a place where time is recorded... and where the dead come to rest."
"Dead!? You mean I'm-"
"No, no you're not dead," the youth laughed. "I'm not sure how you got here, but I suppose that's not my place to question. Anyway... I wanted to thank you for all your help. Mammon is no longer possessing my body." He walked over to John and shook his hand. "With that, I can pass from this world without regrets. But I do want to help you once more, in return for your kind deed." With that, he raised his hand, watching as a tiny light landed on his palm. John gazed to the light, sensing something familair in its presence. "Little one... you must go back. It's not yet your time." The light, upon understanding, flew off, disappearing over the horizen.
"What... was that?" John asked, bewildered. "And this place..."
"It's time you got going back. There are people there waiting for your return." The youth gave him a push, and immediately John felt his body flying, a rush of wind and sound surrounding him. "I hope you have an interesting time... And be glad, I'm returning something important to you..."
John felt his body laying on the cold floor. His eyes had reverted back to normal, his wings and scales were gone. Yet his sword retained it's new form, laying on the ground and out of his grasp. The no-longer Mammon possessed body lay on the other side of the room, battered and beaten. Jessica and Aivon were on the ground near each other, the remains of a spell vanishing from his senses. John groaned as he lifted his body up. He wasn't sure if what he witnessed with the youth was no more then a dream.
When he saw the body of the youth not moving, he gave a sighed and looked to see Jessica and Aivon waking. "Damn... what a trip..."
"John!" Jessica immediately got to her feet and ran to him. They shared a hug, Jessica seemingly trying to crush him in her arms. "It worked, it really worked!"
"What worked?"
"A spell, that your family wrote down," Aivon said, regaining his balance. "Midas helpped us find it."
"So, he's back to normal? Where is he?" At this, Jessica and Aivon looked away. "What happened?"
"John... when Midas helpped us... he told us that because Mammon was still in this world is why he could remain. When you beat Mammon... he..." But John silenced her talking with his finger, giving her a look that told her that he understood. Midas had chosen to sacrifice himself for the benefit of the world.
"John... we're very glad that your ok. After all that you went through..." But before he could say anything, another voice broke through the empty room. It seemed very weak and fragile, and caused everyone to freeze. John turned to the center of the room, while Jessica looked in astonishment. Aivon had a shocked expression, wonder how the impossible had happened.
"Mommy... daddy..."
