Burn Down

Finding out my chat thing was glitched is like trying to beat my head on a wall but discovering it's made of foam. Though it explains the sudden and unusual silence of the last chat I had. I will be replacing it as soon as I figure out how or some other place to host a chat.

Thanks to those who showed up.

New place for them. Yay.

Read, Review and Enjoy.

Mari walked into the room as they were eating breakfast. The woman smiled at them and Mm immediately stood, placing himself between Mari and Rel.

“Rel, we’re going to move you to the apartment complex.”

Mm growled loudly, folding his arms as Rel stood and edged the way around the Sidhe.

“Mm will be going with you,” Mari added, frowning just slightly as she turned her attention towards Rel, “the tribe has said that it is… alright. For you two to move in. We’ve retrofitted a floor for you and can move you as soon as we can get Mm moved without causing issues.”

“Such as death and blood and destruction?” Rel asked.

“Such as him growling at me. You two will love this place. There are windows, the sun will rise and set and you’ll go back to a normal schedule again. There are a lot of plants and space to move about in.”

Mm looked at Rel and looked over at Mari as if confused. Rel walked up to Mari and patted her on the head, effectively showing that she was harmless.

“We have to get his stuff. Mm. blanket. And book.” Rel murmured.

Rel showed Mm by going and retrieving his own book. He hugged it close to him possessively and looked about the room, wondering if there was anything else that he actually wanted.

Mm followed Rel’s example and pulled out his blanket. He tucked his book into the blanket and wandered about, searching for something seemingly. Mm snatched up a pillow, one that Rel always used, and added that to the bundle before considering the television set. The Sidhe snatched up the remote and wrapped the bundle around and held it possessively, taking his place beside Rel.

“There,” Rel murmured, looking at Mari, “we’re ready to go.”

“I expected hours,” Mari flipped open her phone and chatted into it in another language for several minutes before she hung up, “alright. It’s going to smell like paint, but it’ll be ready. Come on.”

Mari led the way to the elevator and down they went. There was a black car with tinted windows. Into this they climbed and Mm moved from one side of the car to the other, looking out each window. The Sidhe made unhappy and stressed sounds at the billboards and flashing signs they passed. By the time they pulled into the underground parking lot of another building, Mm was riled to the point of letting out a constant, high pitched whine.

The vehicle pulled to a stop and they stepped out of the car. Mari waited as Mm cringed, seemingly trying to pull away from everything around him.

“Mm, it’s okay,” Rel said quietly, making a calming motion. He pointed to the elevator and then up as he spoke, “we have to go on that and then up and then no more moving, okay, we’ll be home.”

“Hoooo…” Mm looked back at the car, obviously understanding its function and thinking that the vehicle would take them back home.

“No, Mm, please, up the elevator?”

The Sidhe sighed and dropped his head, drooping as he shuffled to the elevator’s door. Mari looked upset for a moment before she schooled herself and followed Mm. Rel took up a position behind Mari and wondered what Mari was upset about.

Up the elevator and the doors dinged. There was no smell to the place. Rel stepped off the elevator first and looked around the floor.

Because that’s what it was. An entire apartment floor that had been hollowed out and altered. Windows along three walls. Bathroom was walled off, against the wall that the elevator was on. Off in one corner, far off, was a bed against the bit of wall that lacked windows. At the end of the bed was a box frame, like the one from the room, empty and with a pile of blankets and pillows beside it.

There were bookshelves along the wall of the elevator, filled and over flowing with books of all kinds.

There were plants across the right side of the floor. A deep … bath thing… stood amongst the plants. Large and deep, slate grey in colour.

The floor under foot was made of wood. The walls were white washed and -

Rel’s eyes fell on the small kitchen on the opposite side of the floor from the bed. His mouth watered at the possibility of cooking his own food.

“The floor,” Mari stepped off the elevator with Mm and tapped it with one of her feet, “is hard wood. The windows do open, but a drone would catch a jumper. The bathroom has tile and a bathtub and shower. Toilet, obviously. The books here, were lent from my sister’s library. The Two Lovers is in there, he might find it interesting. As well as quite a bit about language, semantics and the such. I think it might be useful for him, perhaps he might be able to explain the language differences.

“Plants over there. There’s a cupboard behind that bunch over there, trust me, it’s there, and there are pots as well as a watering can. You may have to care for the plants to start with, we aren’t certain if he knows how to care for the plants, but he does enjoy plants. So. That’s good. The tub there is technically a hot tub, but it won’t pump hot water into there, only cool.

“The nest box is for him. After he ignored the one installed in the room, we figured that he doesn’t understand its use. He takes the blankets and … basically makes a nest. I’m told that they can be very comfortable. Try to encourage him to do that.

“The laundry shoot is in the bathroom, just drop the laundry into there. Koln will be taking up visiting you, he will bring you new clothing, washed clothing, food stuffs and anything you ask for. Well. Almost anything.

“The kitchen is fully equipped, there is a first aid set under the sink, as well as cleaners there. You will be expected to keep this place clean. Treat it as if it were your home. There is no cleaning lady, no maid, no mail man, I’m saying this only because these things are provided for others in the program. Due to the possibility of fits, we cannot provide these services for you two.”

Mm walked past Mari and towards the plants. The Sidhe stopped halfway there and turned and walked back, almost to the bookshelves. Then he turned to the bathroom and spun to the kitchen. At the last moment he veered to the bed and nest and set his blanketed bundle on the bed before looking over the floor.

“This is a lot of room,” Rel murmured.

“An entire floor,” Mari responded, “think of it as a loft. I think that’s what they’re called. But. Yes. It is a lot of room. It gives you both space to move about and think and your own time kind of thing. At night,” Mari moved to the closest bookshelf and plucked up a remote. This she handed to Rel, “this button will change the windows to a tint. This one will shut off the lights or turn them on. I suggest for the first few days, you don’t tint the windows, this will help you readjust. Trust me. You want to readjust. He won’t sleep during the day. Not with everyone else below you up and about and active.”

“The floors are thin?” Rel asked, looking down.

“No…” Mari frowned, she looked at Mm and then back to Rel, “Rel. Sidhe have power. You know what that is, don’t you?”

“Yes.”

“Not all of them do. But a very specific power is the power to heal and Mm has that power. It is very likely that Mm can feel the others as much as Paw can feel him. Which means if they get in a fight downstairs, Mm would likely have a mood swing to the darker emotions. Their hearing is very, very, very good. Their sense of smell and taste are likely the same and…” Mari turned her head away and scratched the back of it as she finished, “Mik says they are very sensitive. Body wise.”

“As in sex.”

“Yes. As in sex.”

“We won’t be having sex.”

“Not with each other, not for a while. Mik informed you that he is courting you?” Mari paused as Rel nodded, “okay, not it’s being implied that the tribe won’t make you wait a year or what have you. But let Mm move at his own pace. Don’t rush him.”

“I have no fucking intention to-”

“That last bit, I was talking to him,” Mari looked over Rel’s shoulder.

Rel turned and leapt into the air, startled. Mm had snuck up on him and was nearly leaning on his shoulder. Mm smiled at Rel, a toothy thing that showed off all the gaps.

And the bit of white poking out of his gums. Mm’s teeth were growing back in.

“Oh, marvellous!” Mari exclaimed, shifting closer as she turned her head to look at Mm’s teeth, “he’ll have a full set of teeth in no time.”

“What the…”

“Perfectly normal.”

“Makes dentists obsolete.”

“Marrrrr… Mary?”

“Mari.”

“Mar-eee,” Mm made a motion towards the elevator as if urging Mari to leave.

“Alright, but,” Mari raised one finger, then pointed to a cupboard by the bathroom, “there are paints and craft stuff in there. Show him how to use them. In with them is a computer. If you don’t know how to use some of the craft stuff, look it up. No television, but you could probably get shows on the laptop. Completely okayed, so you don’t have to worry about those” Mari waved her hand to the side, “Koln will be coming by in a few hours to speak to you about the food and whatnot. Take stock of it the food, see if there’s anything else you will need. I’ll talk to you in about a week.”

“A week?”

Mari pressed the button on the elevator, “yes, well, I’d rather keep a closer eye on you than not and the crew watching the video feeds are owned by Galt. So. If I want something done, I’ve got to do it myself. Oh, the elevator doesn’t work without a key and as this was meant to be an… empty… floor, it has no steps up to it.”

Rel blinked at her, “what if the place burns down?”

“You won’t burn down, Rel, trust me. You would die of something else long before the building went up in flames.” The elevator dinged open, “good luck. Though. I don’t really think you’ll need it.”
