Yuki's Backbone?

Chapter 38 – Yuki’s Backbone?

It took a week before Yuki could come face to face with Kago again. He called every day, asking to see her, and Yuki kept making excuses to not see him. Her conscious told her she was being a coward; her body told her she just did not want to feel his reaction wrought upon her delicate being. She had felt him angry before, and it usually resulted on welts across her skin. He never beat her, he hurt her during sex. During the most pleasant time of his life he was still harmful.

They sat at the little café, looking like a pleasant couple as he rattled on about how droll school seemed to be, and Yuki daydreamed and mustered up the courage to be honest.

“What do you think?” Kago suddenly asked her.

Yuki’s eyes widened. She had not even been close to listening to a word the man just said. “I’m sorry,” she said, “I did not hear you, but I have something more important to ask you.”

Kago leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms over his chest. “All right, ask.”

The question was not the one she expected to come out of her mouth. “Are you still in love with Fuji?”

Kago looked taken aback for a moment, but like all of his other callous ideals, he wiped the look off of his face quickly and shrugged his shoulders. “Fuji was an ideal,” he explained to Yuki. “You are the one I am with.”

“Would you ever have fucked Fuji the way you fuck me?” Yuki kept on him.

Kago looked around the café, shocked that Yuki’s voice had taken on such a high tone. “People can hear you, Yuki.”
“Then answer me and I will not have to ask again,” snapped Yuki.

“No,” he said honestly, “I would not do to Fuji the things I do to you. Fuji is the type of girl you put on a pedestal, you are a girlfriend. Fuji is the actress young boys fantasize about, you are reality.”

“That isn’t exactly flattering,” snapped Yuki.

“It is more flattering than you are taking it for,” Kago replied. “What is this all about? Is Shinwa putting ugly ideas in your head?”

“Why would you blame Shinwa? He is nothing more than a friend.”

“Right,” Kago snorted. “The way Shai was just friends with Mr. Tennison?”

“Oh,” Yuki said snarling evilly, “that’s something coming from the man who went into a hotel room with my sister.”

“Who told you that horseshit?” Kago growled dangerously. “Again, Shinwa is lying to you.”

Yuki shook her head. “Why would you even perceive that it was Shinwa unless you knew he saw something?”

“Because you have been spending too much time with him lately.”

“And you still haven’t answered what you were doing in a hotel with my sister, nor have you denied it! Tell me!” Yuki demanded. “Tell me! Tell me! I want to hear it out of your mouth.”

“I did nothing to your sister, if you are trying to assume I fucked her,” Kago snarled. “Even I have more taste than to go around fucking a slut with who knows what kind of diseases, especially now.”

“What do you mean… especially now?”

Kago leaned back in his chair, smug and happy. “Don’t worry about it,” he said happily. “It is nothing you should bother to concern yourself with. She’s barely a sister to you.”

Yuki stood from the table, knocking over the glasses filled with the juice they had been drinking. “Kago, I made a mistake in being with you,” she told him firmly. “I’m leaving you.”

“For Shinwa?”

Yuki shook her head. “No. For me.” She walked away from the table, feeling a little smug, along with a little sick. Kago did not give things up so easily. His anger would e a force to reckon with, but that was behind her.

Mostly. Now to figure out what he meant about Kaori.
