Take One

I was hoping that even this would get what I needed. But it didn`t Fecking Mik. I`m glad that he`s finally decided to take things into his own hands, I am. But I`m unhappy that he`s missing the point. The big bullseye. Maybe I should add neon lights or send a god down from the heavens. But he`d probably even ignore that!

Gods.

Holy wow, has it been over a week since Sequel updated?

So. A few suggestions, a few triggers and keys and smart alecy moments.

Kind of wondering why Mm doesn`t want Rel to sleep with Mik...

Read, Review and enjoy.

On the third day of eating and sleeping and eating and sleeping Rel woke and felt… okay. He showered - something he desperately needed- after relieving himself and then looked in the mirror. Why did he never grow a beard? A hand run over his smooth chin only proved to annoy him more. The mark of a man had once been a boy’s capability to grow a fucking beard.

And he couldn’t grow a fucking beard.

Fuck.

His uncle had the same jaw line as him, except was capable of growing a beard and it looked damned good. Rel sighed and gave up the argument with himself.

He went and ate a meal with Mm before the pair of them opened Mm’s book and Mm showed Rel how far he had read. Mm seemed to have gotten through very little. Three pages. But Mm seemed quite pleased with himself and so Rel patted the Sidhe’s head and tried to show himself as very pleased.

But three pages compared to the thirty they had read together was… nothing. Really.

Mm pointed to a word on the page. One that he seemed stuck on. A name, really, for the title was Run, Doe, run. Rel explained this and Mm frowned, not understanding.

Rel ended up at the white board, attempting to explain what the story was about and how it was a story. Mm read the words and tried sounding them out, only to jumble the entire mess about. Both of them gave up and settled on the couch.

Just as the door to the room opened and Mik entered. The man looked pissed and upset and frustrated. Annoyance and anger rolled off of him. When the door closed, Mik glanced back at it, then turned to Rel and Mm.

Mik ducked his head to the Sidhe and held his hands away from his sides, palms towards the two of them.

“Rel, you look better than the last time I saw you. Mm, my, gorgeous you are, I can see why the women fight over you,” Mik addressed the Sidhe as if Mm could understand him.

Mm growled yet moved so that Rel was between Mik and the Sidhe. Mm attempted to make himself seem small. Rel glanced at Mm, seeing the Sidhe’s anxious look, before turning to Mik. The older man was puzzled for a moment before something dawned on him.

“Good memory, but no, Mm, look, no weapon, I’m not going to shoot you again.”

“You shot him?” Rel couldn’t believe the acidic tone to his voice.

“A tranquilizer only. He’s suffered some ill effects, obviously, but in the end… I’d have to say it was for the best,” Mik moved to one of the chairs and sat, easing himself into the chair instead of dropping into it, “look, it’s a bit late.”

“It’s not morning?” He had just gotten up, just woken up, if it wasn’t morning then that meant… that he was way, way off.

“No,” Mik shook his head slowly, “we’ve allowed you both to fall into the schedule that best suits you. It’s… quite late. And,” Mik paused and looked away, nodding his head a bit as he finished, “Paw is going to kill me for coming here. But. Oh well.”

“Why are you here then?” Rel snapped, “don’t you know it’s dangerous?”

“Why are you snarling so much?” Mik murmured to Rel, “Oh. Wait. Eh,” Mik dug through his pocket and pulled out a small baggy. Inside was something that Rel did not recognise. Mik opened the bag and stood, offering it to Mm. The Sidhe plucked out a dark coloured leaf and chewed it thoughtfully before Mik offered the bag to Rel, “take one, won’t do you any harm, might do you some good.”

Rel took a leaf and popped it into his mouth, chewing as some sort of… citric acid spread through his mouth, “what is it?”

“Something that Mm ate in the green room. It’s said to have magical properties,” Mik sat once more, “considering Mm has power, it will aid him.”

“Then… why did you offer it to me?” Rel swallowed the half chewed leaf and grimaced, “it wasn’t to show Mm that it was okay to eat.”

“No,” Mik shook his head, “actually. I have … an idea. You know, show you both as equal or something.”

Rel glared at Mik, “what, do I talk in my sleep?”

“I beg your pardon?”

“This is about my dreams, isn’t it, you’re some kind of crazy, just because I dream about the gods doesn’t mean that I have power, power and people don’t mix, people cannot have power, it is dangerous and stupid and… what…?”

“Right before your … let’s call it a wet dream… did you dream anything about trouble with the gods?”

Rel swallowed. Hard, “yes, not hard to guess considering-”

“You sleep like a rock. Don’t move, don’t twitch. Don’t show emotion. I can show you the tapes sometime if you like. No,” Mik sat forward, his cologne reaching Rel’s nose, twisting Rel’s anger into a kind of heat that Rel did not want anything to do with, “I’m here because I’m tired of getting the run around. I’m tired of off handed comments about Mm’s status and I wanted the truth. To feel like I could possibly do something.”

Rel forced himself away from the thought of Mik’s cologne and focused on the thing about Mik’s neck. A black choker with a small dragonfly charm in the middle of it.

Black choker… black choker… Rel frowned and tried to place the idea, the symbol.

“Mm is fine,” Rel responded, just to have something to say, “he may not be up to the Sidhe’s standards but-”

“That will take time. When was the last time he threw a fit?”

“Days ago.”

“When was the last time he was frustrated?”

“Just the other day…” Rel’s thoughts caught a hold of what Mik’s questions were leading to. “he didn’t throw a fit the last time he was frustrated. But… healing of the mind takes months or years, not weeks.”

Mik shrugged, “Whisper is said to be able to do great things. Or… look at it this way. If the stuff we’ve seen Mm do to his body is any indication of what he can do to a mind… especially one he knows inside and out…”

“Or maybe he wasn’t broken in the first place,” Rel responded, “maybe the dull look in his eyes was hopelessness and despair and not insanity.”

“Good point,” Mik smiled at Rel.

Rel’s heart skipped a beat. It was kind and sweet and innocent and Mik was taken damn it. Taken and sexed up by another male. A male who would not hesitate to gut him for the sake of proving a point and claiming territory.

Territory… black… choker.

“So,” Mik continued on as if Rel hadn’t had a minor melt down, “I’m going to talk to Mari about bringing you into the apartment complex. Locked off, still, but there would be windows and an entire floor for you to fuck about on… ehm… move about on.” Mik’s eyes drifted to Mm, “any questions, since I’m here and… you don’t exactly have the look of a comfortable man…”

“He fucked me a while back but yesterday-”

“Three days ago.”

“When I kissed him, he got upset.”

“He’s courting you, according to Sidhe cultural laws, you aren’t allowed to touch. We’re not even supposed to leave you alone together, in the same room. However. The cameras would likely count as a chaperone. I suppose. And for the moment we haven’t got anyone we can give over to watch the two of you and keep you separated. That will change, trust me. According to Sidhe rules… it will be over a year before you can touch each other. But, should you be accepted into the tribe…” Mik paused and made an uncertain sound at the back of his throat, “I think that you can have sex with whoever is mutually consensual. They encourage it, as Sidhe have sex for pleasure and so…”

“He’ll sleep with others even though he’s courting me?”

“Right. Now the look on his face kind of suggests that he’s thinking about you and me.”

“What?” Rel turned and looked at Mm. The creature had a very calm, very forced look on his face. Mm met Rel’s eyes and looked at Mik before looking back at Rel and giving a desperate sort of shrug. Mm didn’t want Rel to, but Mm also couldn’t stop Rel. Rel looked back at Mik, “why. No. And-”

“I’d seriously consider it, not with me, I mean, but with sex in general. The tribe would want to be certain that both of you are capable of pleasuring one another before they let you come together. Sex is a normal part of their social structure.”

“I am not having random sex! No. I have never-”

“I’m certain that after your dream… there are males who would be more than willing,” Mik gave his head a nod, “more. Than willing. Paw has that kind of effect on some of the tribe. You managed to have that effect on them when you’re miles away. Just a thought.”

Mik stood. One hand was in the air, making some kind of motion while the other hovered at his side, curled as if Mik held a weapon.

Black choker.

The symbol of Deaths. Cayalistan Deaths were well known for having worn magical black chokers, that would stay with the Death from their taking of the position to their deaths. No one in modern times really knew what the black choker was, but it was seen as being along side the reaper.

Rel felt very cold and just a little weak.

I will permit you three deaths

Rel swallowed his words and nodded along to whatever Mik was saying. Some kind of goodbye as he left the room. Rel managed to pull himself together and look at Mm. The Sidhe watched the door for a moment longer before smiling sweetly at Rel.

“Mi ehm… Mi…” Mm sighed and made several hand motions that suggested sex.

Rel shook his head, “not interested.”

“Auh,” Mm looked relieved. The Sidhe sighed and moved to the television set, flicking it on before returning to Rel with the remote, “Chi-o-doo…en. Sssss how.”

“Children’s show?” Rel only guessed at Mm’s meaning and flicked the television to a children’s show. Mik had, after all, suggested children’s shows for learning purposes.

But then. Why take one suggestion, when Rel wasn’t about to take Mik’s other suggestion?
