Chapter 32
"Oh, Rave. I loved it! I love riding your bike! We should do it every day after school. I had so much fun," He said, while getting off the bike and handing me the key.
I laughed and he helped me get the bike back inside the garage once again. I walked inside the house to see both my parents waiting for me. I had a feeling dinner would be early tonight. Logan was looking especially nervous when he spotted them. My father stood in the kitchen, talking next to my mother who was making some tea.
I walked a little farther inside and a strangely quiet Logan entered behind me.
"Umm... Mom, Dad. This is Logan Hamilton," I said in a quiet introduction," These are my parents, Robert and Madeline Baker."
"Nice to meet you, Logan. Why don\'t you take your jacket off and sit down. I\'ll get you some tea and then we\'ll be eating dinner soon," My mom said with a smile.
He slowly shrugged off his brown jacket, but just held onto it. I reached out and he gladly gave it to me. I clutched it against me momentarily, getting a brief scent of him, before hanging it on the back of one of the bar chairs. Ren came in a moment later.
"Is it time to eat yet?" He asked, glancing at me and Logan.
"Almost. Maybe ten minutes. Tell Robin, too," Mom said.
I watched him go back upstairs. I took a nervous seat next to Logan, who was stirring his tea around in circles with his spoon. I laid an unseen hand on his knee.
"You okay? You\'re really quiet," I said softly.
"Nervous," He murmured.
I smiled a bit, gave his thigh a gentle squeeze and took a drink of the tea my mom made for me. My dad had wandered upstairs to his room - probably to change after work, so I was left in the room with my mom and boyfriend.
"So, Logan. How old are you?"
"I\'m twenty-three. Just one year older than Rave," He said softly.
"How did you two meet?" She asked, and began boiling some water.
"I\'m a student ambassador at school. So I gave Raven and his brother\'s their orientation the first day of school."
She looked over at us quickly with wide eyes, her mixing spoon held mid air.
"We haven\'t been together for that long though, ma\'am. Only a few weeks," He said quickly.
"Oh, I see," She said, going back to the broccoli, "I was just wondering...how you two ended up together - like this."
"We just kind of started spending more time together. We started out as friends, but he knew I was gay. And then he realized he liked me, and he got kind of confused. But it all worked out, and we started dating," He replied with a small smile," I was so happy when he finally admitted it. I was like \'yes!\'"
I laughed softly," Mom, what does Dad think about this? Did he say anything?"
She sighed," He\'s still a little critical about the situation, but I think that when he sits down and really gets to talk to you...and Logan, that things will get better. Honestly, Logan wasn\'t at all what I had expected."
Logan laughed, and his honey colored eyes appeared happy," Did you expect me to be like Robin?"
"Only a little. But you\'re definitely not. You don\'t even seem...well you don\'t seem gay at all," She admitted.
"Oh, he is. Trust me," I said with a little chuckle.
Logan leaned over the table a bit, his hands extended outwards," See... that\'s what I mean. What exactly does gay mean? It means that you have feelings for another man. It does not mean that I like shopping, wearing earrings, and talking in a freakishly high voice. It\'s just all in what you make it. And I do have feelings for your son and that\'s the only thing that makes me gay."
"If you were like that...ugh..." I said with a laugh.
"Well, that\'s why we\'re compatible, Raven," He replied.
Robin walked in a few minutes later and sat down across from me. Mom made him a mug of tea and he sipped on it, while watching us.
"Did you guys have fun this afternoon?" Robin asked with a small smile.
"Yeah, we sure did. Didn\'t we, Rave?" Logan replied, nudging me in the side," He\'s a good teacher-"
"Except you almost ran a stop sign," I said.
"The key word there is \'almost\'. Anyway, it was my first time! I thought I did pretty good. I even used the turning signal!" Logan exclaimed.
Ren came in quietly a moment later and sat next to Robin," You guys sure are loud. I could hear you all the way from upstairs."
"It\'s called conversation, Ren," I told him.
My dad came in and sat down next to Ren and my mom next to me. She served chicken for a change with broccoli and cheese and peaches.
"Looks good," Logan said," My mom\'s never been a very good cook. Don\'t tell her that, though, but my grandma never taught her how to cook. So, we usually have simple meals or go out to eat. This is a feast to me."
"Well, I hope you enjoy it, then. This is a typical meal in our house," My mom explained.
"Guess I should come over more often, then," Logan said, and I could tell he had relaxed a bit.
"So, Logan. Tell us about your family. What are they like?" My dad asked, helping himself to some peaches.
"My mom is a secretary at the hospital."
"At the hospital, huh? I work at the hospital and may have seen her already. What\'s her name?"
"Linda. Linda Hamilton. She usually works in the neonatal ward," Logan replied," And my dad, Christopher, is on the conservation committee. He just helps to make sure that the environment looks good and that anyone who disturbs it is reported to the police."
"Do you have any siblings?" Ren asked casually.
I don\'t know where my head was today, but I took that in a different way and began laughing at the remark. Logan figured out why I was laughing and began chuckling himself.
"What are you laughing....oh! No! It was just a question!" He said in a whiny tone and I noticed his face had reddened a bit.
"I don\'t have any sisters...or brothers for that matter, since you were wondering," Logan said, still laughing.
Ren looked mad and I knew he was going to say something he\'d regret later, so Robin said, "Ren, he\'s just kidding. Calm down. You\'ve been acting weird lately. What\'s wrong? Is it because...because we\'re all seeing someone and you aren\'t?"
He shook his head and grumbled, "No."
"Are you sure?" His twin asked with concern.
Ren never did answer him, but went to cutting up his chicken in incredibly tiny pieces. I gave Logan, who was sitting so close to me, an odd look. After dinner, Logan was so incredibly sweet. He stayed a bit and helped me and my mom clean up after supper. He was trying to figure out where the plates and cups went and I\'d have to point it out. We went out on the front steps to say goodbye.
"Well, you seemed nervous in the beginning and then you calmed down a little. You did really good," I said with a little smile.
"You think so?" He asked.
"Yeah, I think my parents like you," I said.
"Really? That\'s awesome!"
"Oh, Logan...before you leave. I have a stupid request," I said with a smile.
He raised an eyebrow," Stupid request? Okay, what is it?"
"Robin wants us to go on a double date with him on Saturday. Did you want to go?" I asked.
He laughed and snapped his fingers," I just knew he\'d say something like that when he figured out the two of us were dating. It\'s so funny, though! Sure, I have Saturday free."
I noticed Logan\'s eyes had turned to look at something behind me but I began talking anyway," Okay. I\'ll call you Saturday morning and we can figure out where we\'re going to go and stuff...Logan?"
"Is that the little shit who told the whole school we were sleeping together?" Logan asked, pointing at the neighbor\'s house where Sasha was discreetly trying to eavesdrop on our conversation.
"Yeah, that\'s her," I replied.
I was in shock when he grabbed my arm, pulling me down the sidewalk and across the grass to where Sasha was staring at us with wide, almost scared eyes.
"Hey!" Logan said, approaching her, while she was scrambling up her steps to get inside her house," Stay out here, I\'ve got a little something to thank you for."
She looked back, her eyes questioning.
"Yeah, ya know. I just wanted to say thanks for making such of big deal out of our relationship. If you hadn\'t told the entire school, then we wouldn\'t be dating right now. So, I know it\'s not exactly what you had wanted to happen, but thanks. So, now, me and my boyfriend are going to say goodbye, right, Love?"
I faced him with unbelief and saw the usual spark of excitement in his brown eyes. He pulled me closer by my nearest arm and planted a hard, passionate kiss on my lips. Sasha was staring at us with her mouth hanging open and her eyes big.
"Now I\'m going to walk my boyfriend into his house and you\'re going to stay the hell away from us. If I hear one more rumor about us, I\'ll be sure it\'ll be taken care of immediately. You can count on it, alright Kitten?"
Without another word, Logan wrapped his arm around my waist and led me back up the stairs into my house.
"I can\'t believe you told her that!"
He shrugged," Doesn\'t hurt to scare em\' once in a while. Anyway, what she did to you was horrible. I\'ll see you later, Rave."
I just nodded and watched as he left the house. He was insane...but I loved him.
