"Home"
Ryan helped Kylie get all of her things together and with Dr. Houle’s consent, led her out of the hospital. It was of course an off the record visit just like the other time, so there was no paperwork to be filled out. He held on to her arm gently as he unlocked his car doors. The other Kylie would never think to run, but this one would. Her trust had not developed yet in him. Whether he was nice to her or not, he was still the enemy, her captor and all she wanted to do was get away. He had to take precautions with her now.
He helped her into the front seat and buckled her up. He made sure that the gun he kept in his jacket pocket was visible to her as a warning. Silencers came in handy for times like these. He walked around to his side, got in and buckled up. The ignition fired up, and he put the car in gear then drove off.
“Where are we going?” Kylie asked him.
Ryan glanced over at her then answered her question. “We’re going home.”
They were now on the highway heading back to the warehouse. Ryan handed her a blindfold and told her to place it over her eyes, and she did so reluctantly knowing it was probably for her own good anyway. She took a deep breath and settled back into the passenger’s seat. She tried her best to remain calm. According to this Ryan character, they had been close before her supposed suicide attempt. Perhaps that meant he would not actually hurt her as long as she behaved. He would be nice to her and maybe even talk with her a little.
Kylie decided to take her chances. “What was going on between us before this happened?”
“Going on between us?” Ryan asked confused.
“You said we were close, right? Well what type of close?”
“I took care of you that was all. Just tried to make you happy. You worked better when you were happy. More men took advantage of you during those times because you cooperated with them unlike when you were depressed or angry.”
Frowning, she nodded. “Oh.”
“What were you thinking?” He looked over at her briefly.
“Nothing I guess. I was just wondering.” Pushing her hair behind her ears she continued talking. “Was I depressed and angry a lot?”
“Lately you had been. Mainly depressed. You had your little fits at times though. Even attacked me twice.”
“You got angry about it, right? I remember sharp pain through my arms and my legs, and there are almost invisible scars on my arms and legs as well. What happened?”
Ryan breathed. “Needling. It was the second time you had attacked me. You needed to be reminded your place.”
“Why did I attack you?”
“You slapped me for something I made you do.”
Pondering the statement, Kylie asked, “What did you make me do?”
“It doesn’t matter.”
“Yes, it does! I want to know!”
“I was teaching you how to work with another woman,” Ryan told her. “It was you and Sara. You refused to rub your body against hers, so I forced you to by moving your body for you on top of hers. You got angry with something I said and slapped me.”
“I’m…I’m sorry, but why would you make us do that?”
“Men like it besides you’re at the age now to start learning.”
“Do you think I’ll remember Sara when I see her? We’re friends. I don’t remember anything about her or even what she looks like, but I don’t want to hurt her either by my confusion.”
“She already was told of your amnesia.” Thinking for a moment, an idea came to him. “In your cell on your shelf, there are two items that you could possibly recognize.”
“What are they?”
“You’ll have to wait until we get there.”
Kylie was already starting to get anxious and her nerves were getting worse each passing second. She just hoped that they arrived soon, yet she did not want to arrive at all. “How much longer?”
“About ten minutes. The hospital isn’t far from the house, so it makes it very convenient for us.”
Too soon, she thought, they arrived back at the house. He reached over and took the blindfold off then told her to stay put. He got out and went to her side and opened the door for her. He grabbed her arm and gently pulled her out shutting the door behind. Painful memories flooded back to her of what seemed to just have happened a few days ago, but according to Ryan, it was five months ago. A lone tear fell. She was back in Hell.
They made their way inside the house, and Jason was sitting on the sofa reading a heavy book. He looked over when he heard the door open and smiled when he saw Kylie come in. “Welcome back kiddo.”
She tried to smile at him, but she also remembered him as one of the men who had kidnapped her in the first place. He was the driver. He was the one who originally brought her here. She remained silent.
Ryan took her to his room and told her to sit on the bed. She stood frozen where she was guaranteed that he was going to rape her again. Her head was shaking shortly, and Ryan saw. “Don’t tell me no. Sit on the bed. Now.”
Holding her tears in, she slowly went to his large bed and sat very stiffly. She saw him take his shirt off, but to her surprise, he just put another one on. He left for a moment telling her to stay put, and when he came back he threw clothes on the bed. She sighed and began to change.
When she was finished changing, Ryan placed two items on the bed next to her. She looked at them intently trying to remember, but nothing came to mind. One of the items was a beautiful lilac hair brush with hand painted butterflies on the handle. The other item was a small toy, a chimp holding a blue bear. “Remember them?”
She shook her head. “No.”
“Dammit. How is it that you can be such a smart girl yet do the stupidest things?”
“I don’t know…”
Ryan took a deep breath before his next sentence. “Please tell me you at least remember how to give a decent blow job.”
“What?” Kylie’s body began to tremor as she hoped he was not going to ask her to give him one.
“You used to be pretty good at them, definitely not the best, but not the worst either.” Seeing her nervousness, he went and sat down beside her. “I’m not going to ask you to give me one. Not right now at least. I’m not in the mood. I just wanted to know if you remembered, but perhaps you don’t.”
Quite the contrary, Kylie did remember. She remembered him tugging at her hair while he pumped himself in and out of her mouth, choking her plenty of times. Why were the bad memories coming back to her? Why could she just not remember Sara and the other girls?
Someone then suddenly knocked on the door, and Ryan told them to come in. Greg, on the other side, opened it and said, “Brought a guest.” A pale girl with curly red hair stepped through and smiled widely when she saw Kylie. She ran up to her and practically tackled her forgetting that Kylie had no idea who she was. Greg smiled then left. Ryan just watched the two interact.
Looking up confused, Kylie took in the other girl. “Are you Sara?”
“Yeah,” Sara replied, but she sounded disappointed and sad.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“I’m just glad you’re alright,” she told her with tears in her eyes mixed with joy and the pain that her best friend had no idea who she was. She removed her arms from around Kylie and sat on the bed next to her swinging her legs. “Ryan brought Blueberry up for you. Did you remember her?”
“Blueberry?”
“This,” Sara said holding up the toy chimp. “We named her Blueberry because she’s holding a blue bear.”
Kylie shook her head sadly. “No, I didn’t remember. I don’t remember.”
“That’s okay. I mean, maybe you’ll remember in time.” She paused then turned to Ryan. “Ryan, did you give her the journal?”
Glaring at Sara for bringing it up, he replied, “No.”
She slightly gulped. “Oh, well I just thought it might help if you let her read it.”
“What journal?” Kylie questioned them.
Sara began to tell her, but Ryan shushed her before she could start. “It would be better for you to try to remember on your own. Give it a week or two while you get familiar with this place again.”
“But if it’s mine, I want to read it.”
“And I said no.”
“But—”
“Don’t argue with me,” Ryan said to her cutting her off.
Kylie’s mouth shut immediately and she gazed at the floor. “I’m bored.”
Sara just all of a sudden started giggling at that statement. Ryan smiled. “That was random Kylienna!” Sara exclaimed.
“A nice change of topic,” Ryan added. “If you’re bored, what should we do?”
“Uhm,” Sara started while in thought. “I know it’s not Sunday, but we could play a game. We can play Pictionary!”
Laughing gently, Ryan agreed. “Alright. Stay here and don’t cause trouble. I’ll be right back.”
When Ryan left the room, the two girls fell silent. It was a strange moment for both of them. Both were nervous not sure what to say to the other. Sara had never been the one to start the conversation when they first met. It was Kylienna who spoke to her. She pushed her to keep talking until she began to feel comfortable around her. She had felt happy that she had a friend there in that dark place.
“So…,” Sara spoke out.
“How long have we known each other?” Kylie abruptly asked.
“For about two months I guess. I met you at the beginning of June.”
“Tell me about my journal.”
Thinking Sara told her, “Well, Ryan gave us these journals. I have one and you have one. You were always writing in yours. I don’t know what you wrote about. We never shared what we wrote with each other. It’s the only thing that we can keep secret around here. Ryan doesn’t even look in them. He said he’s not interested. I gave him your journal to give to you though so you could write. I guess he never did.”
“No.”
“Well maybe you will remember on your own.”
“Maybe,” Kylie agreed but just barely.
The door opened and Ryan stood there and told the girl’s to come with him. He led them down the hall to the kitchen where he had quickly set up the game. They sat around the table beginning to play, and Kylie smiled.
