Chapter 32
Ice cream. Nothing like ice cream to bring people together. Okay, maybe no one else was eating ice cream, but still it was important and it tasted good! What could be more important than that?
Julian was sitting in the living-room of a stranger's apartment, gathering ice cream off the cone with his tongue. Everything had happened so fast, and it had been so frightening knowing that someone he cared so much about could be in so much danger. He didn't want anything remotely bad to happen to Kyun, so he was very happy that the strange blond – Leandor – brought them to a safe place. Even with all the problems, he knew he shouldn't be that excited, but the simple fact that he was staying with these people until it was safe to go home... He liked being with so many people and not having to return to an empty house every night. It was bliss.
He swallowed his bit of cream and looked at Kyun. Could smell Kiyoshi and Takuya cooking something – they had gotten groceries already – and Leandor was writing something. Julian watched the others, glancing from the redhead sitting on the floor watching TV, to Choi spread across another couch. So many people in one place. Too bad they weren't all there. Luo was still out. He liked Luo; that guy was nice, but had seemed a bit troubled by something.
“Do you think he'll be back soon?” He turned his attention back to Kyun and took another quick lick of his cone. “I hope Luo doesn't run into trouble...”
"I hope he does." Kyun said with a light smile, shifting closer. "Luo can handle himself, so I hope he finds them." With his arm wrapped around his companion, a hand brushed lightly against the other's side.
That succeeded in bringing a grin to his face. Those guys knew each other so well; it made him envious. He leaned into Kyun, resting his free hand on the guy's leg. He was tempted to get right up in Kyun's lap, but decided against it. “What are we going to do until those guys are stopped? Not stay in here all the time, of course... What should we do tomorrow?”
Kyun reached up to graze his cheek, meeting his gaze with a smile. "I dunno... what do you want to do? As long as we can motivate a few of the others too, we should be okay." He leant in, placing a soft kiss below Julian's ear, letting out a content sigh.
“I guess this wouldn't be a good time to go to an amusement park or anything big like that.” He absently looked Kyun over as he considered activities that wouldn't be completely inappropriate. “Maybe there's a place around here with a hot tub or a sauna! We should go to something like that! It'd be a good place to relax, I think.”
Leandor looked up from his notebooks and smiled in their direction. “Actually, there happens to be a bathhouse a couple blocks away with all sorts of hot and steamy settings. Not many perverts there to worry about either during the day at least. I'd gladly show you the way.”
With a shrug, the Korean turned his head towards the others in the room, raising his voice. "Alright, who wants to come to a bathhouse tomorrow?"
A lazy gaze came along with a quirked brow from the couch, and Choi shook his head, before laying back down. Didn't seem like that guy was joining anytime soon...
After a while, the redheaded little guy sighed and spoke without looking away from the TV. “If Lea's going, I guess I'd better go. Someone's gotta make sure he keeps his hands to himself, if not for Julian's sake, then his own.”
What was that supposed to mean? Julian blinked with confusion, but shrugged it off. Probably another inside joke of some sort. So he ran his tongue around the side of the ice cream to gather up any that was threatening to drip. It was too late. Some got on his hand. That was bound to be sticky real soon, but it was a small price to pay. He laughed lightly and turned to press his lips to Kyun's quickly. “I'm a mess!”
Kyun chuckled as he brought his tongue down to lick the spill of the purple-haired guy's hand. His expression turned more serious seconds later, and he tilted his head looking over at the blond. "What do you say, Leandor? Think we'd be okay, the four of us? If Ramesh shows up with his brother and who knows who else? Or do we need more people?"
“I know the people who run the bathhouse. Once we get there, we'll have backup. The only dangerous part would be going there and going back.” Leandor shot an insulted glare at his redheaded friend and then turned back to what he was writing. “Don't insult me, Thumbelina. I'm smart enough to know if I try anything, the big bad Korean could kick my ass.”
Stretching and sitting back up, Choi looked over at Leandor. "Is there somewhere safe to stay there which doesn't require undressing?"
The blond shrugged, not bothering to look at who he was speaking to this time. “Well, other than the entry room, there are rooms where they show good old-fashioned movies, like BDSM porn. Don't have to undress in there.” He flashed a bored smile and then added, “There's a lobby where you could sit around, but there's not much to do.”
"I'm just wondering if I should walk you there. Maybe. We'll see." With a yawn, he returned to a horizontal position.
The Japanese youngsters appeared through the kitchen doorway, the yellow-haired one with a bowl in hand, Kiyoshi with two. "Soup's ready in the kitchen," Takuya started with a smile, then turned towards Leandor to finish with a light hiss, "don't worry, loverboy. I got dessert for ya!"
Leandor closed his books as he got up and headed toward the kitchen. As he passed Takuya, he gave the guy's behind a playful pat and whispered into the guy's ear, “How did you know I've been craving tight Asian ass all night? I'll look forward to bending you over and ramming you into the foundation.” With that said, he winked and continued on to fetch his soup.
Taking a seat next to Nele, Kiyoshi passed him one of the bowls. Meanwhile, Takuya left his bowl on the table, then returned to the kitchen. Standing behind Lee, who was pouring himself soup, he wrapped his arms around the blond. "Man... I want you so bad... where have you been all my life?" He let out a loud hiss, then grinded himself lightly up against the other man as he gave the neck a flicker with his tongue.
The blond turned just enough that his aggravated scowl was visible. He muttered something to Takuya and then moved away. As he glanced back at the yellow-haired guy, he spoke a little more clearly. “Let's get one thing straight. If you must do that, never hold me from behind.”
They were all too amusing. With a silent grin, Julian continued eating his ice cream. Not much left, but he intended to finish it before he got up to get soup. He shifted so he wasn't leaning against Kyun anymore to let the guy get up. “Wow, everyone seems to get along so well.”
Following into the living-room, the yellow-haired Japanese reached over to brush Lee's cheek briefly with his hand. Heading over to his bowl, he smirked back at the guy. "I'll think about it, cutie... you know, I'd much rather touch your hair."
Kyun didn't seem to want soup at the moment, instead remaining with an arm wrapped around him, the other arm brushing over his thigh. The Korean chuckled a bit, then whispered in his ear, "I'm almost getting jealous of that ice cream..."
There he went again, feeling his cheeks heat up. He hated that it was so easy to make him blush, but hopefully no one would notice. Julian gazed curiously at Kyun before treating him to a light kiss, parting the guy's lips. He let it draw out for a few seconds and then pulled away to rest his head on the back of the couch. In a whisper, hoping no one else would hear, he said to his Korean, “you taste much better than ice cream, anyway.”
The show they were watching ended and a preview of the following news hour came on. The news woman was talking about a fire with some casualties in an apartment building. When the screen switched to film of the building burning, it looked familiar – though hard to tell with all the fire and smoke - but it wasn't until the woman spoke the street name that he realised just how familiar. Julian gasped, nearly dropping the ice cream cone, but managed to place it safely on the coffee table.
He heard the breath next to him grow increasingly erratic, and before long, Kyun got to his feet. Cursing wildly at noone in particular, he grabbed the ashtray on the table, flinging it into the wall. After the loud crash, small pieces of shattered, coloured glass fell to the floor.
The others seemed to take it far more calmly; Kiyoshi frowned, letting out a sigh as he shifted closer to the redhead, and Choi wasn't showing much of a reaction at all. Takuya's eyes were narrowed, his attention glued to the screen, but compared to Julian's own Oriental, he didn't appear to care much.
Leandor's hands started shaking, rattling the spoon in the soup bowl, but he quickly let go and leaned back, covering his mouth with an unsteady fist. His redheaded friend was already calmly wrapping his arms around Kiyoshi and whispering something in his ear.
It was hard to focus and figure out what to do. Just sitting there watching the group go from content to upset so quickly was shocking. He wanted to do something to help, but couldn't think of what. Watching Kyun so angry was frightening, and after something like that, Julian was afraid he might get hurt if his Korean lashed out. Running away, however, was not quite an option yet. He got up and moved close to Kyun, hoping the man's rage wasn't too dangerous, and put a hand on the left side of the man's chest. He moved his fingers in a subtle massaging motion. “Kyun...”
As the angry Korean turned around to face him, he got a glimpse of the fiery brown eyes before the guy quickly diverted them, blinking slowly. That gaze was greatly unsettling, but despite the shivering, unsteady breath, Kyun rested a hand gently against his side.
There wasn't anything else he could say. That was one situation Julian suspected not much could be said without only making the situation worse. He brought his hand up further from the chest to the neck so he could touch Kyun's flesh directly, and focused on a spot where he could feel the man's pulse.
Leandor got up from his seat, moving gradually. It was almost like slow motion. He was taking very deep breaths, but he was looking like he was about to faint. Without a word, he went to the closet and grabbed his coat, muttered a quiet, “I'm going for a walk.”
When the woman on the TV went on to the next topic, Choi pushed to his feet. "Takuya, we need to talk," he said with determination, moving over towards the Japanese.
Takuya pulled his attention away from the screen, then quirked a brow. "What? I'm eating here! Wait till I'm done."
With his eyes firmly focused on the Japanese, the larger Korean shrugged. "You can bring the bowl if you're that hungry. Now come." After a last, insistent look at Takuya, he headed for the nearest bedroom, and the yellow-haired youngster soon followed.
Kyun had calmed down a little by then, wrapping the other arm lightly around the purple-haired guy. At this point, he seemed more frustrated than angry. A firm gaze met Julian's, and the Korean pulled him closer with a sigh. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to scare you..."
“You have every right to be pissed off,” Julian murmured. He had meant to speak louder to show he wasn't scared, but it seemed his vocal chords had shrunk and wouldn't go any louder. If their enemies burned that whole building down with the intention of killing the group, that meant things were far more serious than he had thought. That was terrifying enough, and he was afraid of what lengths they'd have to go to in order to stop those people. “Why would they do something so cruel in cold blood?”
Curving his neck slightly to hug his companion, Kyun mumbled into his ear. "Some people are like that. Put no worth in other people, just think about themselves..." His voice started trembling, and he paused to take a few deep breaths. "Shit, Julian, what are we gonna do?"
