In the End

Veronica sighed for the millionth time as she looked out of her living room window at the Chicago skyline. Although she had been in Chicago for a good month she still gasped in awe whenever she looked out of her windows. The apartment she had was a very spacious top floor penthouse, with her living room window giving her a clear view of the Sears Tower and her bedroom looking out over Lake Michigan.

With the furniture and things she had brought with her, the place was still a little bare. But she was already planning a shopping excursion to find a few more things to fill up her new home. Maybe even some replacment furniture. Her new job had given her a bonus for just joining the company so she had a hefty budget to work with. In the meantime, things were going good at her job. She was already making a name for herself with some of the ideas and designs she had been coming up with. Co-workers she hadn\'t meet yet were coming up to her to offer congrats on an idea or to just get to know her. She was really starting to feel at home.

\'This move really was the best thing for me.\' she thought to herself as she continued to stare out the bay window. Nowadays she refused to let herself think about Jason. She substituted his name with the word \"him\" and demanded that anyone talking about him do the same. She didn\'t really know if she was bitter or still in love. Maybe it was a little bit of both. Maybe more love than bitterness. She turned from the window, the silky lavender robe billowing around her, and headed for her room. The entire apartment was dark except for the light coming from her room. She entered the room and after a few minutes the light went out.

Jason lay in his bed, looking at the moon cast shadows on the ceiling above him. He had stopped thinking a while ago and had resorted to just looking. Not being able to sleep, too anxious about the next few days, he lie awake yet again. \'If I over think it, I\'ll screw it up\' he reasoned with himself. He had to have some excuse not to think about what he was doing. Seeing that plane flying away from him still haunted his dreams. Maybe that was why he hadn\'t been able to sleep for the past month. All he knew was that he couldn\'t give up. He had never been able to before.

They had been through too much, loved each other too much, for him to let go now. All he wanted to do was get her to listen to him, give him a chance to apologize, beg for forgiveness, just let her know how much he still loved her. That\'s the only reason why he was taking such a drastic step. If she wanted nothing more to do with him, than that was that. He would be on his way and find some way to move on with his life. But if there was at least some hope, some glimmer of love left for him within her.... \"Aaargh!\" Jason growled and rolled onto his side. Somehow his mind had wandered to her and what he was doing. He closed his eyes and willed his mind still. He had to get some sleep.

It was already shaping up to be a humid day out. Veronica had gotten up earlier and walked to the corner for a light breakfast. When she got back to her place she was dripping wet. She headed to her bedroom and began slipping out of her clothes. She had decided last week that she would go shopping for apartment stuff today but the way it was looking, she\'d be lucky if she made it back out again.

\'I\'ve got to go.\' she thought walking into her bathroom. \'I\'ve been here almost two months and I\'ve just got to get some more stuff for this place.\' She had put on her robe and was already running a bath when her doorbell rang. She had never lived in an apartment that had a doorbell. It made her feel so rich. She walked to the door and, out of habit, opened it without checking the peephole. Her eyes widened when her gaze was met by Jason\'s. He stood, rigid as a pole, in civilian clothes with a bouquet of gerbera dasiys in hand. They stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity.

She hadn\'t changed since the last time Jason saw her. He felt as if he were drowning in her presence alone. He wanted to be the first to speak but he couldn\'t find any type of voice. So he settled for staring at her from the doorway.

Veronica, in the meantime, was taking him in as well. He hadn\'t changed much either. His hair was slightly longer, but not touching his collar and he had a scar about his eye that hadn\'t been there before, but other than that he was mesmerizing. Veronica could feel herself being drawn into his magnetism and almost had to forcibly shake herself. She found her voice first.

\"Hi\" was all she managed.
\"Hey\" he replied, a shaky smile touching the corners of his mouth. Remembering the flowers in his hand, he thrust them at her, a little akwardly.
\"These are for you.\" he said. Veronica reached out for the colorful bouquet but drew back suddenly, as if getting near him or the flowers would burn her. That\'s kind of how she felt. She really didn\'t feel like beating around the bush today, partly do to the hot weather she had just come out of not 10 minutes ago.

\"What do you want, Jason?\" The sudden question and tone in her voice stung him a little.
\"To see if you would hear me out for a minute?\" Jason asked more than said. Veronica looked at him and decided her resolve was strong enough today to deal with him. She felt her heart leap when she found him at the door but she had been able to calm it during the long silence.
\"Fine.\" Veronica stated and folded her arms over her chest. \"What do you need to say?\"

Jason swallowed before blurting out \"I love you.\" Veronica kept her stance cool while on the inside she was on fire.
\"Was that it?\" she asked, disbelief in her voice. \'Time to get your act straight or else you lose her forever.\' Jason reminded himself. He let his outstreched arm, that had the flowers in hand, down and took a deep breath.

\"Veronica I....\" he paused. \"I don\'t really know where to begin with this. Um...I know I screwed up big time with you and I don\'t know what that plus time has done to our relationship. I hate the fact that I ever took Alex\'s word over yours. I was in a moment of weakness, being away from you so long and not being able to get in touch with you. I know now why that was, but back then I....\" he paused again. He din\'t know how else to explain the decision he made back then. He shook his head.

\"It was stupid of me, okay? I loved you then, even when I said I didn\'t. When I did find out the truth, me and Alex got into a fight. I kicked his ass good but none of his blows hurt me more than the realization of what really happened. You and the fall and the.....everything.

It hurt me knowing that I was in a position to be there for you and I chose not to be. Even though I didn\'t know the truth, I took what was said, by somebody I don\'t even trust, before finding out from you. I forced you to go though that pain by yourself and added more pain by what I did and didn\'t do. After that fight, when I sat down and thought about that, it...it....\" Jason didn\'t know if he could finish what he had come to do. He had never imagined that he would be getting do emotional and swore to never forgive himself if he didn\'t get this out. He had stopped looking Veronica in the eye a while back and now had his eyes fixed on her feet.

\"It got to me bad.\" he managed to choke out. \"I cleaned myself up, went to the apartment, couldn\'t find you. I waited outside, thinking I\'d get you coming in but I fell asleep. That\'s another thing I\'ll never forgive myself for. I raced to the airport the next day, late, and even got on the plane, but I couldn\'t get to you before security got to me.\" Veronica remembered seeing security on the plane and it instantly clicked that he was the \"poor\" guy they escorted off.

\"I\'ve been planning this trip to see you since I got back to the base. I put in my transfer papers as soon as I go back, and started working on what I would do. I had to get back to you, even if it was to just let you know how much I love you. If you don\'t want me, that\'s fine. I know this between us has been hell and if you don\'t want to deal with it anymore, I understand. But I had to tell you how wonderful and precious and beautiful you are. How much you still mean to me. How I never went a day without thinking of you and how sorry I am for what happened. I love you so much, and I always will. I just needed you to hear that. I....\" Jason stopped when he heard sniffling.

He looked up to see Veronica with one hand to her mouth, tears running down her face. She was crying softly, trying not to make too much noise. Jason could feel a tear threaten to escape down his cheek as he whispered \"I\'m sorry.\" Veronica shook her head and backed away from the door. Jason could feel her getting away from him again and motioned forward. He didn\'t want to loose her yet. He wasn\'t done explaining.

She shook her head again and with the hand covering her mouth motioned for him to stay still. She disappeared, only for a second, and came back to the doorway. Jason barley had time to register that she was back before she threw herself at him in a tight embrace.

No words were passed between them as Jason returned the hug. He knew what it meant but he needed to hear her say it. He pulled away slightly, and looked into Veronica\'s eyes, searchingly. As if reading his mind, she stepped back and lead him into the apartment, closing the door behind him. She lead him through the apartment where he saw an almost overflowing bathtub and realized that must have been what she had left for. She lead him into the bedroom and walked over to the bedside, reaching into the nightstand drawer. Her back was to him now, so he couldn\'t see what she was doing. She turned back around to face him and in her hand was his engagment ring to her.

\"Does this give you an answer?\" she asked as she slipped the ring onto her finger. A huge grin spread across Jason\'s face and he could have laughed from happiness. He wrapped his arms around her again and pulled her in for a kiss. It was a deep, passionate kiss that became even more intense as their hands roamed each other. It had been a long time for the both of them and desires and instincts were starting to take over.

Jason pulled back to kiss the tears off of Veronica\'s face and she was happy to let him do so. His kisses began to trail along her jawline and down her neck while his hands roamed along the underline of her breasts. He let his mouth find hers again as he unfastened the flimsy robe. Her skin was hot to the touch and his warm hands instantly felt cool against her flesh. They had backed up toward the bed and Veronica broke the kiss in order to guide both of them down.

They sat on the edge of the bed and Jason gently played with Veronica\'s nipples as she slide off his shirt and began working on his pants. Jason\'s hands soon started to explore further down Veronica\'s body, tickling her stomach and circling her navel, until his fingers grazed the soft patch of curls not to far from her navel. By now his pants were undone and he stood to take them off, discarding of his underwear as well.

Veronica took in his naked form and felt herself become wet between her legs. She shrugged off her robe and flung it to the side as she layed down on the bed. Jason gently crawled on top of her and let his mouth find her nipples. He alternated between appling heavy strokes to each one with his whole tounge and teasing them with the tip. Veronica let her fingers get tangled in his hair and decided that she liked the new legnth.

Once he decided her breasts had had enough attention, Jason trailed kisses down her stomach, arriving once again at the soft brown curls. He felt his erection jump when the smell of her sex reached his nose. He buried his mouth in her soft nest and let his tounge snake out and run along her lips. She took in a sharp breath and let it out slowly. Jason knew this was going to be too easy. He parted the lips with his tounge and ran it up and down a few more times before moving into gentle circles.

Suddenly he thrust his tounge into her hole and felt her walls clentch around him. He could feel himself become even harder, if that was possible. He thrust in and out of her slowly and brought his hand up so that his thumb could continue drawing circles above her clit. Just as he thought, Veronica soon climaxed from his ministrations.

He inched his way back up her body until he reached her mouth. He kissed her, letting his tounge roll along hers. Tasting herself in his mouth aroused Veronica, making her ready for more. She felt herself pulling on his hips, urging him to take her. Jason was a little surpised by her quick recovery but didn\'t object. He wanted it as much as she did. He positioned himself at her entrance and slowly began to push in.

\"This isn\'t my first time with you.\" Veronica said in a husky voice, making Jason stop. \"You don\'t have to be gentle. I need you to fuck me now. We have the rest of our lives to go slow.\" Jason could hardly contain himself upon hearing those words. He thrust into her hard and they both let out moans of pleasure. Jason lowered his head to Veronica\'s shoulder and lay for a minute. He didn\'t want to blow his load so soon but Veronica\'s tight, wetness wasn\'t making it easy for him to hold back.

Once he was sure he could go on be began pumping in and out of her. Gently at first but then faster. He slid in and out of her warmth and breathed in her familiar scent mingling with his. He listened to her soft cries beneath him and felt his heart fill with joy.

Veronica was racking her nails down his back and trying not to moan too loudly, although it was difficult. She looked up at Jason\'s face, his eyes closed, head back, mouth open the slightest bit and saw a look of pure happiness on his face. She could have sworn she saw a smile but she wasn\'t sure what she was seeing anymore as her vision got lighter.

She was close and he could feel it. Her walls had tightened around him and her moans were barely audible. Jason picked up his pace and thrust into Veronica with full force. \"Oh, yes!\" she screamed, letting herself fall over the edge and succumb to the intense pleasure and blinding light behind her eyes. Her walls became like a vice, trying to hold him in place, and Jason\'s couldn\'t hold himself back any longer. He let his seed shoot into Veronica as she seemed to milk him dry. He lay on top of her for a while, holding himself up with his elbows.

Finally he found enough strength to roll next to her. He lay on his back and she instinctivly rolled over to curl up at his side. He smiled to himself and shifted them both under the cover.
\"I love you\" she sighed, softly kissing the side of his chest. The words were music to his ears.
\"I love you too.\" he replied.

Veronica knew she still needed to sit down and talk to him, hell, she knew she needed to empty the bathtub. But it was only Saturday morning and a little nap wouldn\'t hurt. For some reason, they both had an unexplainable feeling that things were going to be okay this time. And for the first time, in a really long time, Jason had no trouble falling asleep.

The End

*A/N* Aaahhh, cute cute cute. They got back together. I had a sudden brain burst and just came up with this after a long writer\'s block caused by midterms and spring break, so I didn\'t know what was going to happen either. But thanks to everyone who sent me a review. Thanks for the ones that praised me, the ones that offered suggestions, and the ones that criticized. Thank you.
