The Black Gate

It was well after 10 PM when Lilith pulled up to The Black Gate. The fetish club her brother owned. If there was ever a den of iniquity that could be called hell on earth, this was it. She walked up to the bouncer who waved her past the large line outside. The main room with the bar was loud and raucous. "Rev 22:20" blared through the speakers.

"My favorite song...." she thought. "Luc must have known I was here."

She made her way through the throngs of people, feeling the icy stares of the demons that felt her presence. Most felt a violent pain while around her. She was half-angel after all. They knew better than to attack her here amongst humans and on her brother's turf. She made it to the back of the club and pushed through the massive black door marked "Private" not bothering to knock. Lilith's eye's didn't take long to adjust to the darkness of the room. Lucifer sat behind a large, ornately carved black desk. His light blonde hair shimmered almost silver in the low light of the room. His bright blue eyes reflected like a cat in the darkness. Leviathan leaned against the wall behind him. He was never far from his side. Lilith sat down in the chair placed in front of the desk and propped her boots on the edge. Lucifer cringed at her rudeness.

     "You summoned...brother dear...."

Lucifer glared at her from the darkness.

"You're late....." his voice was like a cold stab to your spine.

"You said you wanted to see me. Golden boy over there didn't give me a specific time so, technically I'm right on time. Now, what do you want?"

Lilith pulled a cigarette from her pack and lit it, blowing smoke into the air. Leviathan sneered at her from the darkness. His eyes darkening to an almost pitch black.

"Might wanna tell your pet not to jump the gun because I will send him right back to whatever tar pit in hell he crawled out of."

Lucifer turned his head to Leviathan and put his hand up.

     "Leave us, would you please?"

Leviathan's eyes returned to their bright green color and he left the room.

"Lilith, I wanted to talk to you about something. Something that has been weighing on my mind for some time now. Where exactly do your allegiances lie?"

Lilith cocked her eyebrow in confusion and took another drag of her cigarette.

"Luc, you know I am neutral. I let everybody do their thing unless they are interfering with humans. There has to be a balance of good and evil in this world and I am supposed to maintain that balance. My allegiance is to my team. Not to you or.....well you know." she said motioning upwards with her eyes.

Lucifer seemed to be pondering her answer. He played with the black dice he always kept in his pocket, running them through his long, slender fingers.

"Why the sudden curiosity on my allegiances? By the way....why have the demons I've been exorcizing lately a hell of a lot stronger than ever before?"

Lucifer stood from his chair and moved to the front of his desk, sitting on the edge.

"Excuse me? Lilith, you know me better than that. If my demons are attacking or possessing anyone, it's not on my orders."

Lilith leaned forward in her chair as she flicked her cigarette on the ground.

"So you know nothing about this?" she asked furrowing her brows.

Lucifer bent down and put his fingers under her chin tilting her face upwards.

     "Would I lie to you?"

Lilith moved her face from his grip and stood up making her way to the door. She needed to get back to her team. Something about this whole thing didn't sit right with her and she needed answers.

"Goodbye, sister dear. Don't stay away so long next time."

Lilith stopped with her hand on the door.

"Don't send your lap dog to collect me next time Luc. Might be the last time you see him."

Lilith rushed through the club, out onto the rainy street. She walked briskly down the sidewalk to her car. Just as she turned the corner onto the empty street, she felt herself being picked up under her arms and carried into the sky.
