Preparations
Atl stands on the balcony, half leaning against the banister staring out across the lush forest of Verona. He sighs, the process to restore Toci's Woods to the same level of beauty is going to take years. Absently he massages his neck, watching as the fae-folk down below go about their lives. He shakes his head, wondering what made him agree to this outrageous plot.
Quietly, the door to the room opens. "Aren't you dressed yet?" Tlaloc asks as he enters the room. Atl turns towards his friend. "Have you seen what that little imp wants me to wear." He waves absently at the mound of feathers on the bed. Shaking his head he enters the room. "How did you convince me this was a good idea?" Tlaloc smiles patiently, "You are saving his life." "And that just feels me with warm fuzzies." Atl rolls his eyes. Tlaloc chuckles. Atl lifts an end of the costume up. "How the hell do you wear this amount of feathers when you are in your formal garbs?" "Here, let me help. It can't be that complicated." Atl nods, removing his leather pauldron and furs. A few frustrating moments pass as both panther and wolf attempt to figure the costume out. Finally, dressed, Atl looks into the floor length mirror and appraises himself. He blows an errant green and blue macaw feather out of his face and frowns. He looks ridiculous, but had to grudgingly admit that the color of the feathers complimented his olive skin tone. His chest is bare which reveals black markings that create an arc across his collar, the spiral on one side of his neck and the map of black markings down his back. The feathered skirt is shorter than his furs and hangs low on his hips and revealing the marking that looks like a dagger on his lower abdomen. Feathered bands adorn his ankles and the ones on his biceps conceal the black markings. Absently, he fingers the bone talisman around his neck. Though friends with Tlaloc since they were both much much younger. Their friendship forged by blood and battle, it is the necklace that marks Atl as Tlaloc's confidant and ally. The talisman also prevents Atl of disobeying any direct order from the Lord of the Wood. In the years that the necklace has adorned his neck, the orders have been few and far between. Atl sighs. He then looks at Tlaloc in the mirror, their eyes connect. Tlaloc gives a sad, cautious smile. "Ready for the headdress?" Atl nods. Carefully, Tlaloc positions the feathered monstrosity on the wolf's head. "Did you select a gift to exchange?" He asks as he adjusts the headdress. "Necalli has gone to retrieve it." Tlaloc raises a brow. Atl rolls his eyes. "It's nothing of too terrible of value it was just back at the woods." The heavy wood door swings open. Necalli stands there, chest heaving. Something wrapped in a scrap piece of hide under his arm. "Am I too late?" He asks as he gasps for breath. Atl shakes his head and waves the small russet wolf into the room. "Did you get the correct one?" He asks as he takes the bundle from Necalli. Necalli hops onto the bed. He nods emphatically. "It was right where you said it was." "What is it?" Tlaloc asks, turning his attention from Atl to Necalli. Necalli smiles up at the Lord of the Wood. "It's a surprise." Tlaloc turns back to Atl. "What is it?" Atl shakes his head. "Never you mind." He reprimands his friend as he returns the bundle to Necalli. "You keep a hold of this." Necalli nods. "Okay." Atl turns to Tlaloc. He sighs. "Lets get this fiasco started." Tlaloc rolls his eyes. "I love your enthusiasm."(Author's Note: This section didn't keep any of its linebreaks from the first post... ick... I fixed it now, hopefully...)
