A Common Enemy: Elijah Don't do it!

Wolf Instincts
Chapter 2: A Common Enemy: Elijah Don't do it!

Elijah awoke surrounded by wolves. He growled furociously in defense.

"He's feral!" one of the boys said mockingly. They all laughed.

"Fuck you!" Elijah said getting up from the ground. "I don't need this."

As he began to walk away he was stopped in his tracks.

"Your not going anywhere. Boys stand down your input isn't needed."

"Yes chief." they all responded harmoniously.

"As for you. You are now a part of my pack. You must abide by my rules or be prepared to face the consequences. Understand?"

Elijah was looking down and didn't seem particularly interested in what was being said. The chief grabbed his chin and forced him to look forward at him now kneeling down to Elijahs height.

"This is not a democracy. Here, you either learn or learn the hard way. Understand? I expect an answer when I ask you a question." he gripped Elijahs chin tighter.

"Yes..."

"Yes what?"

"Yes chief..."

"Good."

The chief stood up and began to walk away.

"What is your name?"

"Its Elijah..."

"Well Elijah I am chief Stephan, meet Monroe, Carla, Simon and True. They are your new pack mates and they will BEHAVE," the pack shuttered at the sound of his mention of them.

Elijah stood back against the wall and licked the blood from a scratch on his hand. It was the most vulnerable he had looked since he'd been taken from his camp.

"Hey sorry about the comment I made back there. Was just trying to be funny ya know? I'm True." the boy said stepping up to Elijah and reaching out his hand. Elijah shook it nervously.

"Don't worry we're all family here. You don't have to be shy."

Elijah puffed out his chest.

"I'm not shy!"

True giggled.

"Your just asking for a challenge aren't you? Well don't let chief Stephan see you doing that. He'll whip you."

Elijah breathed out all the air he was holding in.

"Just know that your in with a good pack." said True patting Elijah on the head. Elijah seemed skeptical.

"I don't need a pack..."

"Well ofcourse you do! Every wolf needs a pack. Especially with our...enemy out there."

Elijah looked at him questioningly.

"Enemy?"

True laughed.

"Do THE HUMANS ring a bell."

Elijah turned away.

"My parents were killed by humans..."

"All our parents were killed by humans."

Elijah turned to True surprised.

"Yup all of us. Chief Stephan has helped us to pick of the pieces, get our lives back together again."

Elijah, after years of feeling like am outcast, felt like he belonged again. Everyone back at camp still had their parents except he and his brother and even then his brother was invited to a pack and he was not.

"We have plenty of other enemies too but we also have plenty of friends as well. The dragons for instance." True pointed to the large winged beast coming down from the sky. He and the other members ran to the edge of the den. Elijah stepped back.

"You lived in a camp so you were mostly sheltered from most everything that's out there," True said smirking. "Things do exist outside of your little world." he and the others greeted the dragon with enthusiasm.

"Gardren how are you!" said Stephen coming through the darkness. Elijah ran behind him.

"Is the boy afraid of me?" said Gardren embracing the other members as they playfully climbed atop him.

"He's new."

"I see. Well I have a mission for you and your pack. It pays 5000 dollars which I'm sure is right up your alley."

Stephen smirked.

"What is our mission?"

"Down at the old warehouse some humans are living."

"We don't work with huma-"

"These particular humans are said to have killed 5 wolves in the past week and have also slain one of mine."

Stephan's skepticism was replaced with anger.

"Why us?" Stephan asked.

"You have humans forms and can easily infiltrate their site."

"Right. We'll take it." said Stephan. Gardren smiled.

"Thank you friend. Well I'm off! You guys be good!" Gardren said as True, Simon and Carla climbed off of him. "Nice to meet you new boy."

Elijah stepped back further. Gardren flew away. True walked by and patted Elijah on the head.

"He's gone now." True giggled.  Everyone gathered around Stephan.

"True your up. You will be the ONLY one to assist me on this mission. The rest of you will stay here and guard the den."

"Yes chief." said the rest of the members.

"Why does he get to go?" asked Elijah. Everyone turned to look at him.

"True has been here much longer than you and he's stronger," said Stephan matter- of- factly.

"Im strong too." said Elijah. True tousled his hair.

"Your not ready for missions yet."

...

Elijah sat at the edge of the den and watched Stephan and True run out into the darkness. He turned to see that Carla, Simon and Monroe were in their wolf forms and huddled up together asleep.

Elijah considered running back to camp, but remembered that he was kicked out in the first place. They wouldn't have wanted him back.

Elijah wandered out into the woods unable to sleep. He couldn't help but to think that after all that time of him feeling like the alpha male, that no longer was the case. For the first time in his life he felt inferior, helpless and he hated that feeling. He hated knowing that there were others stronger than him.

"I'll show them... " he said transforming. He sniffed the air and ran off into the night.

...

True stepped forward and ran his hand along the barrel of the AK47. He smirked.

"Is this what were going to kill them with, the wolves?" he said smiling. Stephen stepped up beside him.

"Nice bullets you got there."

"Yup. Pure silver. This baby will take nothing less." a chubby guy said. His face was gruff and he smelled putrid with the fresh scent of wolf blood still on his flesh. Stephen had to keep from slashing the mans throat right then.

"I'm ready to go slay those dirty beasts when you are." the man said with a smirk. The other humans were still getting their guns ready.

"Are we safe in here?" said True.

"We're about as safe as safe can be. Because of modern technology, we know when their coming before they get here." said the man patting a small metal box. It looked something like a radar machine.

"Interesting," said True. He walked over to examin some of the other guns while Stephan stayed back with the exceptionally large man.

"Here you go. I'll let you take the first shot." the man said to Stephen, handing him a gun.

"It would be an honor," Stephan said with a smirk, but just as he was about to grab the gun from the mans sweaty palm, there was a loud crash. Elijah came bursting through the back wall. He transformed without Stephan's say so and lunged at every human he could, catching them off guard. Stephan hit the fat guy over the head knocking him out and True picked up one of the many guns and shot until all the men were lying face down in a pool of their own blood.

A shot was fired. Then another.

Elijah crawled into a corner and huddled up around himself bleeding. They were lucky this time, but Elijah was hurt. True gunned down one of the surviving humans and kicked the gun out of his hand.

"Elijah!" said True running over to him.

"Get away from him True. Now." said Stephen angrily.

"Yes chief," said True stepping back.  Stephen picked up Elijah by the throat and forced him to change back.

"You could have been killed! You could have gotten us killed!" he said furious. He looked down and saw that Elijah had been hit in the leg and  ankle. He frowned.

"True stay here and gather the bodies. I'll be back..."

"Yes chief." said True.

Stephen took Elijah around the side of the building and pushed him up against the cold stone wall.

"You disobeyed me and almost got us all killed."said Stephen reaching inside his cloak. "You got away with a lot of things back at your camp, but not here Elijah."

Elijah whimpered dog like, but didn't move from where he was positioned. His ankle prevented him from doing so.

Because wolves were so hard to hurt unless with bullet or otherwise, Stephen knew what instrument to use on Elijah to cause significant harm. He pulled the short whip out from it's concealed place and unraveled it.

"The more you cry, the more I strike do you understand?"

"Yes...Chief," said Elijah with the tinge of discomfort behind his voice.

-

True covered his ears before the sounds of leather hitting flesh and Elijahs screams could be heard throughout the Forest. Be had never remembered seeing his Chieftain so angry and hoped to never see it again, but that was up to Elijah...
