Sky and Justin pulled up to the house at 7:15, five minutes later then Justin had told Shannon. The house was normal as normal could be, complete with an oak tree and a white picket fence. The lights where off but you could see little flicks of lights scattered everywhere inside. Letting a breath out that he didn't know he was holding, Sky looked at Justin and saw the same relief in his eye's.
"Justin, we don't have to be here. i mean its not to late to turn around now and go home and watch a movie, or something that won't leave us dead on a highway by morning." Sky pleaded with Justin.
"Chill out man, look i told you its going to be quick and painless, you can't chicken out now." Justin gave one last smirk to his friend before opening the car door and getting out to fix his too tight white tee.
Sky reluctantly got out of the car and shut and locked the doors. He was not looking forward to this at all. He liked Shannon, almost if not more then he liked Justin. Shannon was a small ,quite, shy girl with dark hair and eyes. Sure she spent most of her time in the library reading about the spirit realm and the Salem witch trials , but lets face it, everyone has their quirks. She was also one of the few people Sky could talk about yaoi with and not feel judged. She actually had a bigger collection then he did.
Clearing his mind as to not feel any more guilt about what he was going to do, well what he was going to allow Justin to do, he walked up to the door and knocked. A few heart beats passed and Sky turned to tell Justin that they should just leave, unfortunately the door opened before his mouth could.
Shannon stood in the door way, all four feet of her covered in black. Her hair was wet, probably from showering, but she still had all her make-up on from the earlier that day. Sky just assumed she reapplied it.
"Hi, um... not to be rude but you guy's are six minutes and 37 second's late but don't worry, the drinks are still cold." Sky knew Shannon enough to know that that was her pathetic way of making a joke, but looking at Justin, he didn't even realize she was even talking.
"Um. Sorry about that, Justin had to change his clothes six times and recharge his head cus he was on the verge of becoming brain dead."Sky smiled at her as they made their way into the living room.
Both men where surprised to find that the lights that they had seen where actually candles. There looked to be at least 80 if not more. Sky let out another breath and looked up at Justin once more to see if they could just leave, unfortunately his so called best friend had already made his way to the couch.
"you can sit down too, once you guy's are comfortable i will explain how things will go." Shannon said as she began to line the candles into rows on the coffee table.
"This is going to be sooo fucking awesome."Justin whispered into Sky's ear.
"look, i don't really like this, but ill stay, however you owe me back BIG time." Sky whispered back, not taking his eyes off of Shannon for a moment.
"oh don't worry, when this is all said and done i will own your back big time." Justin whispered before pulling back and looking smug.
"OK, ready. This is how it's going to work. There are exactly 100 candles. We will go around the room telling stories about close encounters that we or someone we know/knew had with death, and for every story told, we blow out a candle. every candle that is blown out opens a small hole in the spirit world that will let us connect to the lost souls."
"What happens after the last candle is blown out?" Sky asked Shannon skeptically.
"something will be there waiting for us. humans interaction with anything dark brings the interest of lost ones, most of them searching for a way back." Shannon said proudly. " ok I'll start, i was three years old when..."
After about an hour, and 95 candles later,Sky found himself bored out of his mind and starting to get a headache. He himself had only contributed 10 stories and had let Shannon and Justin to just volley back and forth with their's,knowing that 99.9% of Justin's near death experiences where complete and utter bull shit.
"I ..I am going to get us refills, you guys just continue." Sky then got up and left the room before either one could say a word.
Sky carefully made his way into what he hoped was the kitchen. Shannon had insisted that they kept all the lights off for more of an effect , and that left Sky in the dark, literally. Feeling cautiously against the wall for a light switch, he made his way into the pitch dark. After a while , Sky bumped into what he assumed was the fridge, and to his relief it was just that. opening it up he was disappointed to find that the light was burnt out, but a cold chill let him know that it was still running.
"Hey dude, we just blew out the last candle and nothing. I'm going to the bath room and then we're out, k?" Justin yelled from across the hall.
Sky wavered, though he heard what Justin said it sounded as if he said it through water instead of air. He shut the fridge and turned to go back to the living room. Before he could even take a step he felt another cold chill run through him, but this one froze him to the bone. Slowly turning around to see if maybe he didn't shut the fridge all the way , Sky began to get dizzy and was horrified to find that he had.
Sky felt his head thumping as he looked around. He noticed that the room was covered in a dark blue/black haze. Upon looking closer he could see that the black areas were moving like floating shadows, closer and closer. He felt his knees give way, and he floated to the ground. Confused and scared, Sky tried to gather his senses. He could no longer make words out of the sound coming from the living room as he felt reality slipping away.
However his head cleared long enough for him to notice two specific things. One was a bright warm light coming form the roof off to the right. The other was a deep black pool of liquid on the floor to his left. Doing the only logical thing he could think of, Sky began crawling toward the dark pool, after all dead people are all way's told to go into the light, so the living must go to the dark.
Right?
