Chapter Three: Her First Day of School
Five Years Later
Kagami and Nagami laughed as they walked Monica to her first day of kindergarten. “What if they don’t like me?” the little girl asked quietly, twirling a few strands of brown hair with her finger.
“Why wouldn’t they?” said her big brothers. “You’re so cute,” said Kagami.
“And plus you have us as brothers,” added Nagami. “If you have a problem with anyone, let us know, alright?”
Monica smiled at them both, her bright green eyes shining. “Okay!”
They chatted the rest of the way there, the twins calming their sister down until she was right in front of the door to her classroom. She looked up at her brothers, not wanting them to leave her here. They knelt down on either side of her. “You’ll have fun in there, Monica,” Kagami told her softly.
“Yeah,” chimed in Nagami. “It won’t be so bad in there, alright, Sis?”
She still didn’t seem so sure, but she nodded lightly. “You’ll come pick me up later, right?”
“Well, we have a longer school day,” Nagami told her, “so Momma will be here to pick you up when you’re done, okay?”
“Oh, okay.” Monica felt happier knowing that her mother would take her home later. “Have a good day, big brothers!”
“You too, Monica,” both boys said before standing back up again and backing away. “Now go inside and show them the Motero family spirit!”
“Right!” and with that, little Monica opened the door to her first day of school and making new friends. The twins smiled as they watched her walk inside, until they turned around to hurry over to their own school. They were excited about their new and final year of middle school. After that it was high school. “Do you think we’ll be allowed to date next year?” Nagami asked his look-alike brother.
“Maybe, or the year after that,” replied Kagami. “And two more years until we learn how to drive!”
“Woohoo! Hey, maybe we could share a car.”
“Well, duh. It’s not like we’re gonna be wanting to go to different places.”
The two teens were lost in their own little world of the future they imagined, so they couldn’t have seen who they were walking up to. They didn’t even seem to hear or notice him as they walked right passed. But this guy wasn’t going to be ignored, he would make sure of that, as he grabbed the collar of Kagami’s shirt, causing both boys to stop and look up at him. “I said, you have to pay the toll.”
“What toll?” the twins asked.
“The toll to walk on this stretch of sidewalk of course.”
“That’s a lame way to bully someone,” they told him. “Why aren’t you picking us up and holding us upside down so that our lunch money falls out of our pockets? Or saying that we’d better give you money or you’ll beat us up? Or are you, maybe, a weakling?”
The supposed bully blinked at them. They had said each word so perfectly in time with each other, it was like they really were reading each other’s minds. They then grinned evilly at him as Nagami threw a punch to the bully’s stomach, causing the other boy to double over in pain, letting go of Kagami’s shirt in the process. Next, Kagami kicked at the boy’s side, commenting to him, “Wow, you really are weak. Next time know who it is you’re bullying, so that you can have some backup behind you.”
The twins turned away from him and continued on their way to school. Yes, this was going to be a good school year indeed.

During their lunch break, Kagami sighed as he repeatedly glanced down at his watch. “Kagami, what’s wrong?” asked a girl in his class as she sat down next to him.
“Oh, hi, Kara,” he greeted her, smiling at the girl. “I’m just anxious to get out today. It’s Monica’s first day of kindergarten, and I want to ask her how it was.”
“Ah, cool.” Kara smiled at him. “I’m sure it was a wonderful day for her.”
“Heh, I really hope so.”
Kara started eating her lunch, but her eyes kept looking back at Kagami. She knew him ever since they started middle school together, and had since then acquired a crush on the brunette boy. She didn’t really know much about his brother Nagami, except that they were identical twins. Still, Nagami sat with a different group during lunch, so she never really got the chance to get to know him.
Kagami on the other hand was a really sweet guy. He even helped her figure out some things in class. Whenever there was drama in her life, she would go to him, and he would actually listen to her. He wasn’t like most guys were becoming. Kara knew, just knew that Kagami would never change the way he was. She often dreamed of him being her Prince Charming, and coming to rescue her from the evil stepmother. However, he never knew of her feelings toward him, and she was too afraid to tell him.
She wanted to confess her love, she really did, but she felt as though he would not feel the same. She would sometimes catch him looking at other girls, and a couple times she even saw him looking at a few guys. It surprised her when she first saw him watching one of the guys from orchestra, just watching him. It could have been her imagination, but she thought she saw Kagami blush a little too.
Kara didn’t judge him, though. It didn’t matter to her. After all, there was still a slight chance that he would ask her out. She had seen him look at enough girls to know that he actually went both ways, whether he himself realized it yet or not. And yet… she still couldn’t tell him.

Marie quietly watched Nagami eat his lunch as he tried talking to a couple other guys with his mouth full. They laughed and had to tell him to swallow his food first because they could not understand him at all. The brown-haired boy swallowed and tried again, and Marie just kept watching him. She didn’t really like his calmer, kinder brother. No, she definitely preferred Nagami over Kagami.
The reason was that Nagami was obviously becoming more and more of a bad boy. He didn’t behave like that in front of everyone else, but she knew that deep down there was a raging bull waiting to break free. And when that happened, she wanted to be the one to tame it. She had it all figured out.
She would tame the savage beast within him, and then he would be forever hers. It was so perfect. Marie had even started listing possible names for their future children. She closed her eyes as she pictured it again. Their wicked family on the run, both Nagami and herself on motorcycles, holding onto their two babies as they raced down the highway.
“Earth to Marie.” She opened her eyes and looked at Nagami, right into his bright green eyes. “What were you thinking about?”
“Nothing… Just my future family.”
“Yeah? Tell me about it?” Nagami smiled at her kindly, and she thought he looked more like his brother right then. She mentally shivered at the thought of him turning back into a nice guy.
“I’ll tell you later, Nagami.”
“Sure, okay,” the boy said, feeling confused. Why couldn’t she just tell him now?

As the twins arrived home later that afternoon, they were greeted by a very cheerful Monica. “Hey, Sis, how was school today?” they asked her in perfect unison.
“It was cool!” she exclaimed. “I even made new friends with everybody!”
“Hehe, sounds great, kiddo,” said Kagami, ruffling her soft brown hair.
“Yeah it does,” agreed Nagami, doing the same. “We told you it wouldn’t be so bad.”
“Uh huh.” The little girl giggled some as she sat down in Nagami’s lap after he sat down on the sofa. He held her close and smiled more.
Kagami sat next to their mother. “So how was your day?” he asked her, giving her a gentle smile.
“It was so quiet in the morning,” she whined. “With none of you at home to keep me company, I get so lonely. But then I found the puzzles…”
“Yeah, I can tell,” stated Kagami, looking down at the three completed puzzles on the floor.
Nagami remembered something. “Hey, Momma, have you ever done a 3D puzzle?”
“Huh? Do those exist?” she questioned him.
“Yeah, they do. They’re puzzles of buildings, but they go up rather than stay flat. I hear they’re rather complicated.”
“Really??”
“Maybe you can ask Papa for some, heh,” joked Kagami. “Well, if they’re easy to find at least.”
“Maybe Uncle Stan has some.”
“You think so, Naga?”
Sierra listened to them quietly. After a few minutes, she finally asked, “So bottom line is, they’re not gonna be easy to find, right?”
“Bingo,” both twins said at once. “It’d be better if we just got you ten new puzzles tonight.”
“Hm, we’ll ask your father about it when he comes home.”
The boys nodded and turned their attention back to Monica again, drilling her about every detail of her school day, making sure that their sister didn’t have any problems. And from what they heard, it sounded like she really did have a wonderful day.
