Just a little foreshadowing...hehe...



Kara ran barefoot through the woods, her breath escaping her in light puffs before her face. She was sweaty from running and freezing in the night air. Her feet ached and were bleeding badly, she only wore her shorts and blue tank top. A wolf howling in the distance made her whip her head around painfully, she almost thought she understood the call. Come to me... Everything in her wanted to obey. The howl rose again as she heard something running towards her, a loud panting as a wolf emurged from the darkness. She wanted to run but was frozen by the golden gaze, it's dagger teeth glinting in the moonlight as it lunged for her. She threw her arms in front of her and screamed, but teeth never met her skin. She opened her eyes and found herself at the steps of Celestial Genetics, she walked up the steps, leaving behind bloody footprints on the stone. The wolf-like male stood at the doorway, smiling a little at her, his head cocked. His clear grey eyes moved to look at something behind her. She turned and met a golden gaze like that of the wolf that attacked her. But this male was unfamiliar to her, made of the same build and stance but with lighter hair and a more malicious look. He extended his clawed hand to her as a pair of strong arms encased her, a too-warm chest at her back. His breath fell against her ear as he spoke to the other wolf.

"Mine."

He spun around her quickly, a snarl erupting from him as the two wolves clashed, she closed her eyes tight and didn't hear another sound. When she opened them she was in a red hallway, bodies lying everywhere haphazardly, she swallowed hard as she came to the doors to the Celestial chamber. She pushed them open and found the Celestial Portal swirling darkly, becoming unstable as more and more wolves escaped, their teeth taking live people, while others ate the dead.

"Why am I seeing this?"

Strong arms closed around her again, an unnatural warmth filling her as he nuzzled her ear.

"Do you desire him?"

Suddenly the heat vanished and it was Roland's arms around her, his familiar scent filling her nose. He became heavy against her shoulders as he slid down to the floor, she turned to look at him, his throat torn out. Tears rolled down her cheek. She screamed in anger, and when she opened her eyes she was in a field, hundreds of wolves surrounded her as they howled at the stars, she could feel them wanting her to do the same. She dropped to her knees, tears rolling down her face.

"I'm not a wolf!"

A warm hand slid against her cheek, raising her face to meet his. He was smiling again, his grey eyes staring into her soul.

"But you are."

He kissed her lips...

Kara woke with a start, cold air rushing into her lungs as if she had been holding her breath. She touched her lips with a shaking hand, she could still feel the warmth. She looked about herself nervously, still trying to calm her beating heart. She was lying on the bed, he had moved her at some point, her shoulder no longer hurt and the wound was already closed. She sat up and found him lying on the floor next to the bed, the hatch was pulled open across the room as if he had done so for her. She stepped over him carefully and winced at the pain in her feet. She glanced down, they were cut and bruised like in the dream. Carefully she slid through the hatch and was surprised to see a handler sitting slumped in a chair asleep waiting for her. She closed and locked the hatch as he startled awake and unlocked the gate.

"I need to speak with Roland."

The handler blinked at her in surprise.

"He's in his office, he's probably asleep, it's almost 2 a.m."

She swallowed hard and turned for the elevator. There was no way she was in there asleep for 16 hours! She hurried to Roland's office and knocked loudly to be sure to wake him. He answered his door, a cigarette in his mouth and a cup of coffee in his hand.

"I need to talk to you."

He ushered her in quickly and she sat on his couch, thankful to be off her tender feet. He looked her over protectively, his eyes going from her shoulder to her feet.

"We need to do something about that."

He left for a moment and came back with bandages and hot water and some washcloths. He pulled a chair over and took her right foot in his hands, even though she had just woke up she felt exhausted. He gently cleaned her wounds as she began talking to keep from falling asleep.

"I had dreams Roland, like you would never believe."

She described to him in great detail her dreams, save the parts about him and about the wolf man's possessiveness. He worked silently on her feet, never betraying a single thought. She always admired that about him, she was so easy to read and would always display her feelings on her face, but he hid his thoughts and emotions so well.

"I don't think you should go back."

She looked at him in surprise as he finished bandaging her feet.

"How can you say that? He accepted me."

"This isn't a game Kara."

For the first time he sounded stern, his usually calm demeanor was gone and was replaced by worry.

"He's obviously different than what we've experienced before and if what you're saying was caused by him we're talking about psychic abilities. You're not qualified to handle that. Not to mention you were exposed to him for 16 hours, he bit you and yet it's already healed? For all we know he has contaminated you with something that we have no way of fighting or understanding."

"That's rediculous and you know it."

Roland sighed heavily and stood, scratching his head and running his fingers through his hair worriedly.

"You're going to go bald if you keep doing that."

He smiled at her and let his hand drop to his side.

"You have to promise to report everything that happens to me. And tonight I want you to sleep here so I can keep an eye on you incase you have anymore of these dreams."

She jumped up and hugged him, ignoring the pain in her feet.

"Alright, alright, lets go to bed."

He picked her up easily as a blush rose to her cheeks.

"You don't have to carry me I can walk."

He didn't answer her as he laid her down in his bed. It wouldn't be the first time they had slept in the same bed. It wasn't really strange or awkward, and there was always two feet of space between them at least. He slid in on the other side and turned off the light. Sleep came easily once more.


Kara found herself in complete darkness, there was nothing around her except for the cold stone floor under her feet.

"You're in danger!"

A voice rang loud in her mind but seemed to come from nowhere.

"You must come to me, you're not safe where you are!"

She whipped around as a long howl rang around her, calling to her in desperation.


Kara opened her eyes and sat bolt up as Roland tried to calm her. Sunlight spilled through the window filling the bedroom, the night was already over.

"Kara, another one came through the portal today, this one was on it's own we didn't extract it. We've never had anything come through on it's own before. I tried to let you sleep for a while so it's been detained and is in a duel cell with the first specimen, so far there hasn't been any interaction or violence between them, which is a good sign."

Kara felt stupid for wanting to ask the question but it was bubbling up inside her. She pulled the bandages off her feet and slipped on a pair of slippers to walk in her clothes were old but she could change later.

"The new specimen, were his eyes gold?"

Roland looked at her strangely and furrowed his brow.

"I don't know I wasn't really looking."

She sighed, of course he wouldn't have noticed a detail like that.

"Sorry, just a silly question. Lets go."
